  1. That would be hilarious!! And anyway, that's what brothers and sisters do.. Play with the other's toys when they're not at home and mess with all their stuff. Siblings' rights. Even my 2yo son will go into his sister's room and take stuff when she's in preschool. Never plays with it. Just puts it in his room. It's so funny. Nancy
  2. Thanks everybody for all the great advice. I ordered Kids with Celiac Disease, as well as the other two books. I'll have to play up the "Just Like Mommy" thing. I never mentioned my gluten intolerance to her before because she has always been such a picky eater that I didn't want her to tell me she was brocolli intolerant or something. I found out...
  3. Thanks for bringing this up. I was just wondering about that myself... Good to know they're okay. Nancy
  4. Oh my gosh! I saw the Moon Sand commercial today too! Disney Channel I think? I looked it up, and the company's website still says "Coming Soon". There is a space on their website for FAQs, but it's also "coming soon". Here's the site - Open Original Shared Link I hope it's gluten-free. It looks SO neat. Nancy
  5. I was just wondering how everybody explained celiac to their child. My daughter just turned four. She only has mild to moderate symptoms; D that doesn't seem to hurt/worry/bother her, mild tummy aches and appetite issues, dark circles under her eyes and some behavior issues that may or may not be related to celiac. In other words, things that are more...
  6. My advice to anyone that has celiac symptoms is to try the gluten-free diet no matter what the blood and biopsy says. My medical tests were all negative. It was just me deciding that I was going to give it a shot anyway that changed my life. I hope that finding this board is the first step on the road to feeling better. Nancy
  7. You can order individual tests at Enterolab too. I wasn't able to afford ordering everything all at once either. For me, my symptoms were so strong, and my response to just not eating gluten for a day or two was so dramatic that all I did was the genetic test ($150) just to make sure I was barking up the right tree and even was genetically capable of having...
  8. Well, it looks like we're officially going down the same road together. Celiac is so weird isn't it?? To have all that for years and (for me at least) not even show up positive on blood or biopsy. When I think about all the people who go to their doctors with symptoms but are told they don't have it because the tests are negative it makes me really sad...
  9. HUGS Lisa... Please know that you've got prayers and hugs coming your way. You'll do fine. Just think... this time next week, all the tests will be over with. Nancy

ARCHIVED Celiac Sprue & Doctor Too!

Also... DTMFA? Haven't been able to figure that one out... It's like being behind a car with a vanity plate that you can't quite decipher. KWIM? Nancy
  11. Me too. I wonder if it's the starvation mode? The threat of not being able to absorb nutrients through your intestines maybe jacks up the appetite for junk food, trying to up the fat reserves? ??? Nancy
  12. It's not a mistake. It's a learning experience. Cross contamination and trace amounts sounds SO paranoid at first. It doesn't take long to realize how sick you can get from that stuff. Pre-celiac logic would tell you that you should be able to just order the darn hamburger and just take off the bun yourself. Or be able to touch gluten and then...
  13. Wow. I'm SOOOOOOO glad this topic wasn't a recipe. Blech.
  14. Hugs Sarah... When I went gluten-free, I was just trying to get rid of the gas and diarrhea. However, the list of symptoms that went away after going gluten-free is longer than my arm. 90% of which I had no idea was connected. Some of which I had no idea was happening. The oddest was that my daily headaches went away. The odd part was that...

ARCHIVED Celiac Sprue & Doctor Too!

Welcome to the board!!! It's nice to have someone here who not only is an M.D., but who also has had lifelong experience with it, including going on and off the wagon. I've never heard of the banana thing. I'll have to give it a try the next time that happens. Makes a lot of sense. Here's some of my favorite products: Pamela's Amazing...
  16. Well it sound like your doctor didn't tell you anything at all. Don't worry. You came to the right place. A positive blood test for celiac is kind of like having a positive test for pregnancy. You can't be a little bit pregnant or a little bit celiac. You either are or you aren't. The best advice really is to read, read, read on this board...
  17. That sounds SO cool!!! My son would love it. My daughter, on the other hand, might run screaming from the room. Maybe in our house we could call them "princess ribbons" instead of tentacles. LOL! Nancy
  18. HUGS... My GI (very nicely) asked me to do a gluten challenge at some point and report back the results. I told him that it would take Fear Factor money for me to even consider it, and even then, I don't think I could make myself do it. I remember telling a friend of mine that I no more want to eat gluten then I want to plunge my hand into hot Crisco...
  19. The doctor was great. He said that Enterolab is an accredited lab and he trusts their results. He said that he wants her to see the ped GI for followup, but with the results we already had he wasn't sure if they would want to do any further testing or not. He also said that since my son is only in the 13th percentile for weight, and has the dark...
  20. Yea, I'm definitely planning on feeling the situation out first. Then I'll decide if I need to be more outspoken. If he's even just willing to listen to what I have to say, and consider my thoughts, opinions and insights as a person living with gluten intolerance, and my subsequent concern for my child's health, I'll be happy. I think I've only...
  21. Nini, how awful that you had to go through all of that. You must be so proud of your daughter, and of yourself for figuring all of this out. I'm going to go into the appt with the idea that I'll pretty much be steering the appt as much as I can. I used to be a medical transcriptionist, so I learned a little bit about how to tell a doctor he's wrong...
  22. Thanks everybody!!! And gfp, I know EXACTLY what you're saying. I had thought that if I don't start stabilizing if I get down to around 135 or 140, I'll have to think about ways to stop losing weight. It's kind of odd to have lost this much weight without giving it a second thought. Hopefully my body is just starting to get back down to a healthy...
  23. I remember hearing that one of the drinks at Starbucks wasn't gluten-free. Maybe Mochachino or something? Java chips or something like that? And Rice Dream rice milk isn't gluten-free. It has barley in it. Nancy
  24. Okay, normally I wouldn't talk about this because weight is such a touchy issue for just about everyone, whether you're underweight or overweight. But my weight has been such a huge problem for me pre-gluten-free that I'm so excited about this that I had to share. I knew you guys would understand. When I first found out about celiac I weighed 18...
  25. Oh my Lord. I would seriously think about talking to the hospital administrator. That nurse seems like she's off her rocker to threaten you like that. ANY parent would be camped out in the ER if their child had a fever of 105. If they're going to be taking that kind of stand against you, they need to explain to you WHY a fever of 105 is okay. I agree...
