  1. Mikey's Fecal Antigliadin IgA from Enterolab is 41. Jenny's was 15. That's over twice her score. I had actually gotten myself expecting that his was going to come back either completely negative or below 10. He has been gluten free along with the rest of us for a few weeks now, and the other day at our family BBQ my husband's cousin gave him cake...
  2. Her new talk show is starting in a couple weeks. I was thinking since she is more food oriented, she might be willing to do a show on celiac. She probably has at least heard of it. Lets do a writing campaign to suggest a show on it. Open Original Shared Link There are a bunch of topics that you can write on. I was thinking the What's On Your...
  3. Same here. We had a family barbeque today. Everyone pretty much knows about my gluten thing, and I know what's safe on first look, but then I have to wonder if my MIL used the same cutting board to cut the potatoes for potato salad that she used to cut the bread. Or what brand of BBQ sauce they used. And if they're grilling the bread too. Are they...
  4. Here's another one from me. I had to have my appendix out several years ago. For the first few days afterward, before they let me eat anything and I was just on an IV, I remember thinking that it would be so nice if I didn't have to eat anymore. Then after I started eating I was eating things like chicken noodle soup, toast, crackers, etc. I never...
  5. Yep. If you read the signature lines on people's posts, you'll see that a lot of us are technically gluten-intolerant rather than celiac, but we get the same symptoms, and are just as sensitive to small amounts of gluten. I'd bet if you did the Enterolab genetic panel (only $150 and done by Laboratories at Bonfils, by the way) that you'd find out you had...
  6. That sounds delicious!!! My mouth is watering. I never know what to do with the rest of the ginger when I buy it for a recipe. This is what I'm going to do from now on. Mmm...
  7. A friend of the family was just diagnosed with Crohn's. I'm almost positive they didn't do any testing for celiac. She just had a baby a couple of months ago. I'm not sure how long she's had symptoms I've seen several people on here mention that they have Crohn's as well as celiac, or were misdiagnosed with Crohn's and then found out it was celiac...
  8. I would have a hard time believing that this is a cure. Cure to me would mean that the immune reaction would cease to happen, and there would be no risk of any intestinal damage. That would be a very difficult thing to verify. Because you can have celiac, with intestinal damage and positive biopsy and not have any symptoms whatsoever. The only thing...
  9. AAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're kidding!!!! That's AWESOME!!!!!! Nancy
  10. I found a couple of references for you. The first one is from the National Institutes of Health and says: "Recent studies have shown that it may be more common in Africa, South America, and Asia than previously believed." Open Original Shared Link The second is from www.celiacdisease.net and references a fact sheet from the University of...
  11. It's a private specialty lab. They hold the patents on the stool tests that they do to search for the same antibodies that regular doctors look for in your blood. Because they hold the patents, they're the only lab that can run the tests that they developed. You can also get the genetics test from them, which they send out to Laboratories at Bonfils,...
  12. My best friend is Hawaiian and Japanese, and a little bit of Portuguese. She has a lot of symptoms of celiac, to the point where she's getting tested (starting with genetics through Enterolab, then going from there). She was diagnosed with IBS when she was 15 or so. She's been having celiac type symptoms all that time. She's always tired too and...
  13. That's awesome!! You're educating a new generation of physicians! Even if you got some blank stares tonight, you know that they'll never forget your presentation, and there will be many people diagnosed who would have otherwise slipped through the cracks. Nancy
  14. I was thinking about this today. What odd things make sense now that you know you've have (or may have always had) celiac. Just those odd things that aren't necessarily symptoms, but that now make you think, A-HA!!! So that's what that was!!! For me it's: - Almost passing out when I tried wheatgrass as part of one of my New Year's Resolution Health...
  15. 1) I went from being sure that I was going to be in a wheelchair within five years (tops), to being able to move furniture around. 2) I went from not even being able to take my kids out in my own backyard, to being able to RUN around the backyard with them. 3) I went from not even being able to take my kids to Walmart because I never knew when...
  16. I agree. You're beautiful Lynne. It's nice to see your face.
  17. You know, I never did hear anything back on this from Enterolab. My son hasn't had the grainyness in a long while. He's been gluten-free for a few weeks now, and I don't know how long it has been since he had milk. I'm thinking maybe it's a dairy thing? Like maybe it's little curds? (I know, ick..) Nancy
  18. Thanks guys. At my Whole Foods, they said they only carry the Ians. I did go to the wellshire website, but to ship it frozen to CA, I'd have to go overnight shipping, which is over $60!! Plus, we don't have room in the freezer for 10 pkgs of chicken nuggets at one time. If I knew that my kids liked them, I'd be more likely to consider buying in bulk...
  19. After a rough week last week, my husband decided to go gluten free. This was on the heels of our daughter getting a positive Enterolab stool test. I wasn't sure if he was going to take it seriously, and I'm not sure if he was going gluten-free because he was starting to suspect it in himself (both of our kids have two copies each of the gluten intolerant...
  20. I was wondering where everyone is finding the Wellshire Kids Chicken Bites. My Whole Foods doesn't carry them for some reason. Other than that we have a couple small health food stores in the area, but they don't have them either. I just thought I'd check and see if this is something that can be found in a regular grocery store before I start bugging...
  21. Thanks for the heads up on the "corn" bread AND the ice cream cones. I've only tried a couple of Glutino's products, just the chocolate breakfast bars which tasted like prunes to me, and the bread sticks, which were just okay. I just hadn't thought to try their bread yet. And I never would have thought to try their cornbread while looking for a sandwich...
  22. She has been saying that she has thought she might have it ever since I found out about it, but has been hesitant to try the diet. She has family members that also would fit the symptoms. I pretty much tell her everything, so she knows all the details of the different symptoms and tests and all of that stuff. She was thinking about getting tested...
  23. I'm stunned gfp!!! Who would have ever thought... But then, who would have ever thought gluten would cause so many health issues. Just another thing to add to the list. Nancy
  24. I've haven't heard of that. But at this point, with as odd as we all have learned that poop can get, I don't think anything would surprise me. Lucky you, huh? Nancy
  25. Isn't modified food starch is sometimes tapioca too? ? Nancy
