ARCHIVED Amy's - Possible Contamination In Production Lines...
Nantzie replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got the worst glutening I've had since being gluten-free from Amy's Black Bean and Veggie Enchiladas. There was nothing else it could have been. I'm wondering though since the CC has been hit-and-miss, that it just depends on how well the lines are cleaned before a particular run? Like maybe on the run that I got glutened on, there was a spot the... -
I was just thinking about this today too. I've been gluten-free since January, so I've become comfortable cooking gluten-free, but it's just the constant cooking. Gotta cook breakfast. Even if it's just toast, which was so easy before, I've got to make sure I baked the bread FOR the toast before I even get to the toast. Then if you cook a real breakfast...

ARCHIVED Help Turning Into A Salad.
Nantzie replied to Hells Bells's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That doesn't sound like something that happens on this site, although I know that some posts fall through the cracks. I looked up the topics you started , and didn't see any (other than dupicate posts) that didn't have at least one reply. There were a few where you never reposted on your topic again. Maybe you weren't able to find the topic again... -

My stomach is a little off, but Jenny seems fine thank goodness. Nancy -

Oops, you're right. I didn't notice that. I was just scanning for the Ovaltine. Nancy -
Yep. Entirely normal. I've got breast cancer in my genetic code, and my mom died of it at 46. Feeling guilty or blameful (new word!) about it is normal. It's not true. But it's normal to feel it anyway. It's not how they would ever feel I'm sure. It's just part of Mommy Guilt. Just think about it. Every time they get hurt, we all cycle back to...

ARCHIVED Jenny's First Glutening...
Nantzie posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I glutened us tonight. Not entirely sure what it was, maybe cc? I started getting a slight headache after dinner and was WAY irritated at the kids. So I knew something was up. I was hoping that she wouldn't react, or that it was maybe me cc'ing myself, but not her food. Usually, when she goes to bed, we read a couple books, and then she lays down... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Lose Weight When I'm Tired Al The Time?
Nantzie replied to munchkinette's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ouch! I really feel like I'm lucky with being glutened. I typically react within 20-30 minutes, so it's really easy for me to pinpoint what might be causing a problem. Not having that immediate reaction has to make it much more difficult and frustrating. Maybe try not using any personal care product not specifically verified gluten-free for a week... -
Yep, if you have two genes, one is from each parent. But keep in mind, just because a person has the gene for something doesn't mean it will ever activate. So even though one side of the family doesn't seem to have had any celiac-type symptoms, it doesn't mean they didn't carry the gene. Maybe it's a recessive thing in some cases like we all learned...

It almost sounds like you may be getting some gluten (if you don't have other issues you haven't figured out of course...) Have you gone gluten-free with your haircare, cosmetics, lotions, etc.? Nancy -
ARCHIVED Sick Again
Nantzie replied to kirst4588's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Poor kid... Yea, it sounds like gluten to me. That "falling out" was exactly what used to happen to me. 10 second warning to get to the bathroom. I used to have to run and push my kids out of the way in order to get to the bathroom, which is only 10 feet away from where I usually sit. Sometimes I wouldn't even make it, even being that close. I... -
I've got so many family members that, looking back, seem to have had celiac symptoms. And since I've got two copies of the genes, it's on both sides. My mom's mom had schizophrenia, which has been mentioned as being linked to gluten. I remember now, that my mom said that my grandma was always thinking she had weird medical things. I also remember...

I like the food by Thai Kitchen. They have some meals that are basically Cup O' Soup type things where you just add hot water. They use rice noodles. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Wheat Germ Oil?
Nantzie replied to katrinamaria's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think I had a harder time giving up my gluteny personal care products than I ever did giving up food. I even spent a few days a month ago wearing lip gloss that was glutening me. But it was sooo preeettttyyyy. *sniff* Make sure you check your shampoos and lotions and stuff too. It's a gluten landmine out there... Nancy -
ARCHIVED Gutened! Anyone Else Get Cravings And Retain H2o?
Nantzie replied to anerissara's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get bloated too. Anywhere from 2-4 pounds. You can really see it in my face. And my stomach swells up. I also get cravings when I'm glutened that normally don't even cross my mind. It doesn't need to be anything gluteny necessarily, but I notice that I crave candy or chocolate a lot when I'm glutened. The other day I had to go to the grocery store... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Cross-contamination At Home?
Nantzie replied to mythreesuns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a plastic bin that I put on a higher shelf where I put my cooking untensils and stuff. I also have a small cutting board up there I definitely recommend going with a dishrag rather than a sponge. You can wash it if it gets contaminated, and you're all set again. Once someone accidentally uses your gluten-free sponge on a gluten thing, there's... -

Thanks guys. I've given so many people that NIH thing. But I don't think I've ever had my husband read it. And thanks for the link to the Braintalk info. I hadn't been active on that board, but I looked up tons of stuff there. I do remember jcc and our similar genetics. I told my husband this morning that I'd have to plan ahead and maybe he should... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Cross-contamination At Home?
Nantzie replied to mythreesuns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do a lot of the above, but here's how I handle kitchen towels. I have two hooks above my kitchen sink. One is for the gluten-free hand towel, and one is for the gluten-free dishrag. There is a gluteny hand towel on the counter on the other side of the sink if anyone needs it. I also keep a ton of dish towels and dish rags, so that if I or anyone else... -
That's awesome!!! It's going to be great to have some room to stretch and relax. To be able to hear the sound of your own thoughts is an underrated treasure... I forget what your major is? Business? Accounting? Being close to school will be so much easier. Less stress in the commute. More time to just snuggle into the blankets in the...

My kids love Pamela's Wheat Free Bread. It works really good as PB&J and any other sandwiches, toast, bread and butter, doesn't fall apart and is really close to wheat bread. Nancy -

If you guys hear a big POP, that's just my head exploding. Today, of course, he was all nice. I'm just so over his extreme (good word) thing. We had some family visits that we had already scheduled, so we went and did that. No drama. I wasn't terribly friendly to him, but I don't think anyone noticed anything, ya know? So we get home... -

Nicole, Yep, it has hand mixing instructions on the package. I also noticed that on this box of mix, the packages just say Pamela's Wheat Free Bread Mix. No "amazing". It's the same thing. So if you go looking for it, it may say it either way. It holds together totally fine. In storage too. Nancy -
I'm too sad to tell the whole story right now. In a nutshell, my husband said that he doesn't believe in celiac disease and the reason I didn't feel good was because I drank too much soda. As far as Jenny goes, he said that he thinks the reason she wasn't feeling good was because I microwave most of her food, and if I would at least just give her a Flintstone...

Spidey senses... That's so cute! Yes. I think that that's a lot of food for a six year old. And for him still to be hungry... If you think about the actual size of his stomach, and then visualize the sheer volume of four pieces of pizza compared to how small his stomach must be... That was the realization I had with the peanut butter crackers...
