ARCHIVED Enterolab Called Me...
Nantzie replied to mythreesuns's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm glad you decided to go ahead with the genetic test. For me it answered a lot of questions and kept me from having to wonder. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Gulden's Mustard
Nantzie replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use it and I've never had a problem. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Alcohol, Vinegar & The Distillation Process
Nantzie replied to Lillyth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think I've ever posted about this here before, but in my previous, gluten-filled life, my favorite drink was Absolut Mandarin and cranberry juice. I didn't drink it very often, but it was what I ordered if we went out. Since going gluten-free, the few times I've had it, I got a weird reaction on my hands. Not itchy or painful like DH, but a weird... -
{{{HUGS}}} Me too. It's nice to know there are other people with the same experience. The symptoms really end up isolating you, and you end up feeling alone in a dozen different ways. I will never stop being grateful that I found this board and all the wonderful people here. Nancy

ARCHIVED Cusinart Bread Machine
Nantzie replied to gfchick's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have it and I love it. It's my first breadmaker, and I've only used it for gluten-free bread, so all the other settings go to waste at this point. It's a lifesaver. Our whole house is gluten-free, and we can easily go through 2-3 loaves of bread a week. It's nice to be able to just throw a mix (Pamela's Wheat Free Bread is our favorite) in the breadmaker... -
ARCHIVED Gluten -- I Cheated And It Was So Good
Nantzie replied to grantschoep's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Kentucky-Fried Pizza???? Now you're talking...! Just kidding. Nancy -
That's so cool Nini! People who don't have a gluten problem sometimes don't realize what those parades, run/walks and 5k's really represent. It's either freedom from pain and mobility issues or freedom from being tied to the bathroom, or freedom from a dozen other things that limited your life. Nancy

ARCHIVED Pott Trained Having Accidents All The Time
Nantzie replied to AmyTopolski's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yep. I was referring to #2. Maybe your daughter knowing that it has nothing to do with HER, but that it's part of the disease process will help him feel better about it a little. I know when I found this board and discovered that I wasn't the only person on the planet with that symptom, it helped a lot. Maybe her knowing that if a grown-up person with... -
It still blows me away. The other day I went to the mall with a friend of mine, and I realized after walking back and forth all over the mall that nothing hurt. Not even my feet. Just something simple like that, which I had taken for granted at one point, and other people couldn't understand about when I couldn't do it, was WONDERFUL! Now, when...

YAY!!!!! I'm so happy for you. I had a lot of mobility issues for the last few years before figuring all of this out. I was eyeing the motorized cart at the grocery store, but I didn't have anyone to help me, so I used the regular grocery cart as a walker, because while standing I could reach more stuff that I normally bought. I'm undiagnosed, so...

I guess not! I thought I had heard that their burgers had some sort of filler in them. I must have mentally crossed them off the list because of cross-contamination. Nancy
-
Nope. The hamburger patties are not gluten-free. The fries are up for debate. I don't have a problem eating the fries and get them about once a month. Most fast food places use some sort of gluten in their meat. Including Taco Bell. At In N Out Burger you can order a burger "Protein Style" and they make it wrapped in lettuce. Their burger...

ARCHIVED Glutened My Daughter Tonight! :-(
Nantzie replied to Tori's Dad's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep. It's a learning process. I totally would have thought Kettle Corn and Lemonade would be safe too. Hope she feels better tomorrow. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Nonallergenic Wheat? What?!?!?!
Nantzie replied to Guhlia's topic in Publications & Publicity
I never knew that Ursula! I've been wondering about why it is that so much of civilization is based on agriculture and wheat when it makes such a huge part of the population sick. Makes much more sense now. The thing with all of these things is it makes me wonder if it will help all types of symptoms, or just the intestinal damage. I'm guessing probably... -
ARCHIVED For Those Of You With Picky Eaters...
Nantzie replied to Guhlia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When I contacted Hidden Valley, they said that their powdered ranch mix has traces of gluten. I was such a Hidden Valley fan before. Are there other brands of powdered ranch mix? I haven't even looked yet. Nancy -
ARCHIVED For Those Of You With Picky Eaters...
Nantzie replied to Guhlia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That sounds really good. I tried the same thing a few weeks ago with Cool Ranch Doritos, and they were so bland I was shocked. You'd think that something as strongly flavored as Doritos would have the same thing come through as crumbs. But no, not at all. Thanks for the recipe! Nancy -
ARCHIVED Son Now More Sensitive To Everything
Nantzie replied to LoriCF's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
For the first few months I couldn't tolerate soy at all, which another one of those things that is EVERYWHERE. Margarine, "vegetable" oil (why don't they just SAY it's soy oil if that's the only thing they put in it?), peanut butter. Now I don't have problems with it. Dairy only gives me problems if I've also been glutened, but at first it was a problem... -

ARCHIVED Pott Trained Having Accidents All The Time
Nantzie replied to AmyTopolski's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When my symptoms were at their worst, I would have about 30 seconds notice to RUN (!!!) to the bathroom. There were several times where I had to push my children out of the way just to get to the bathroom 10 feet away. And there were times when I didn't make it. There's no holding it at ALL. It just comes out with no sense of it being there until it... -
Sounds like gluten to me. There are times when I don't even get any digestive issues anymore from gluten. For me, I get exhausted, headachy, depressed/anxious, tearful and irritable within half an hour. That's all from CC like not washing my hands after touching gluten, or eating something off the same plate. Sometimes I get stomach issues, but most...

ARCHIVED Help "hair Needs Perm" Do I Dare?
Nantzie replied to bknutson's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I for one can't WAIT until perms are more in style than straight hair. I'm still an 80's girl at heart. I remember back when perms were in style and if you even breathed a thought that you wanted to straighten your hair, you got the same reaction that you get now if you want a perm. Eventually it will cycle back around, and the technology... -
ARCHIVED Got Worse On Wheat-free Diet
Nantzie replied to KevinG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree. Wheat free is barely scratching the surface, so if you're not completely gluten-free, you haven't given it a real shot. My stepmother figured out wheat is a problem with her YEARS ago and completely avoids it. But she's not gluten-free. She has so many problems still. I suspect that she has celiac, but she hasn't been tested yet and I don... -
IMRes - Now really... Would you tell that to someone with diabetes? People who are first diagnosed with diabetes, or other chronic, life-altering issues often go through problems with their family because it's an adjustment for the whole family. So just because a person's family isn't adjusting to it, and the ill person is planting their feet and standing...

ARCHIVED Wheat Grass (not Full Grown) Is Gluten-free?
Nantzie replied to Quaxo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I reacted to it. A few years ago (before I heard anything about celiac) I used wheatgrass for a few days because I wanted to get healthy. I very nearly passed out. I was home alone with my 3-month-old and not quite 2yo, and my husband wouldn't have been home for hours. That was the only thing I had done differently at that point for weeks, so I knew for... -
ARCHIVED Pamala's Chocolate Chunk Brownies
Nantzie replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The only Pamela's things I use are the Amazing Wheat Free Bread, which is the best stuff ever. We go through at least two loaves a week of that. The other thing is the Ultimate Baking and Pancake Mix, which has a perfect recipe for choc chip cookies on the back. Don't like the premade cookies. Don't like the brownies. I don't think I've tried anything...
