  1. That sounds SO nice. I've been thinking about getting a toaster oven again. We had a big one when I was growing up, and by the time that one finally bit the dust, all of them were only big enough to toast two slices of bread and not cook much of anything. What's the use in that? I just looked at the Cuisinart site and found the model you were talking...
  2. I haven't had that. Is it mucousy or anything like that? I've heard of people passing mucous as part of their celiac symptoms. Have they tried to determine what it's made of by doing some type of testing on it? Nancy
  3. Oh Lisa... I'm so sorry. It doesn't sound retarded at all. You just need some answers. It doesn't even matter what the answer is I'm sure. You've been going through a lot this year and you've got to be exhausted of everything. Hopefully the Cipro and Flagyl will help. I've heard that those can be pretty strong on your system, so don't be surprised...
  4. Hugs Ursula... It sounds like those other celiac people are causing a lot of harm to a lot of people by giving harmful advice. I can't even imagine how frustrating that must be for you. With such incredible lack of support, I'd be think about getting out of there for a while too. It may be the only way that they'll be able to see that you HAVE to be...
  5. Like everyone else says, once you know the tricks of the trade, there's not much you can't do. Just let us know what you're missing and we'll jump in with some ideas. I rarely cooked before I found out about celiac. And even then it was just reading the instructions on the side of the box. Now that I've been gluten-free for several months, I cook all...
  6. WOW! That's amazing. Congratulations! Nancy
  7. Figured this was a good time to jump on the Avatar bandwagon. Nancy
  8. Hope you're sleeping and not wide awake because of your appt tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers that they found some answers for you. Cute picture! I need to get one up one of these days too. With the kids, I'm the one usually taking the pictures and rarely in them. It really is nice putting a face to a name. Nancy
  9. As far as whether you're celiac or gluten intolerant, that's hard to know unless you've either had the genetic test done or the official doctor's tests like blood tests or biopsy. If you're scoring anything over a 10, you need to be gluten-free. My daughter only had a 15, and was already having some problems. When I found out that I wasn't officially...
  10. I've had several tests through them (had to do it in bits and pieces rather than all at once because of cost). It seems to take about two weeks or so, but all I've had done was the genetic tests and the $99 gluten sensitivity stool test. I haven't had to wait a full three weeks for anything so far. But maybe some of the tests in the full panel take longer...
  11. Ya never know, but I'll bet their lab department pays closer attention to what you ordered... Nancy
  12. I'm sure it was just an accident. I'm pretty sure that the boxes are hand-packed, so whoever packed your box must have grabbed the swabs along with everything else. I think most people who get a complete panel also get the gene test, so the person might have just been "on automatic" when filling your order. Nancy
  13. You know, I've made parmesan crisps like that. Never thought to use processed cheese for the same effect. Are we talking Velveeta or Kraft-American-type individually wrapped cheese slices? Nancy
  14. Tell me about it... When I first found this board I felt like I'd come across the rest of the landing party from my home planet... From the weight management perspective, I was moderately overweight when I was diagnosed. I've lost 25-30 pounds since January with no effort on my part. I was eating whatever sounded good that was gluten-free. Lots...
  15. Cheesecake??? Nope. Actually I've never seen a popup on here. But we've got a pop-up blocker that might have gotten it. There is a bakery in Philadelphia that will ship gluten-free cheesecake though... Mr. Ritts. www.mrritts.com There's actually not much that doesn't either have a good substitute on the market, or a good recipe to be had...
  16. Yes!!! I forgot about those. There's nothing that comes close to that in texture and ease of use. I like the Food for Life ones quite a bit for flavor, but they're hard to work with. I end up just taking the pieces and putting a bit of whatever filling I'm using on each piece and rolling and eating as I go. Works okay, but not the same. Nancy
  17. DQ3, subtype 8 is DQ8, which is one of the official "celiac genes". Both of my kids have DQ3, subtype 7. I also have DQ1, subtype 6 (two copies). If you read my sig line, you'll see that that can cause all sorts of issues all by itself. Nancy
  18. Chevy's Tortilla Chips. Their salsa is gluten-free. But the chips are fried in the same oil as other things. Those chips were so good. Nothing else is quite the same. KFC is a big one for me too. Really just the loss of anything that is convenient. I mean, I like the side effect of this being that I'm eating healthier, but my gosh. Sometimes...
  19. Slurred speech because of my tongue swelling. The last few months, by the end of the day my tongue was swollen enough that I was having a hard time reading my daughter's books at bedtime. I'd basically be biting the sides of my tongue as I was speaking. Scary... (shudder) Sensitivity to light. I used to HAVE to wear sunglasses or I'd squint so hard...
  20. Kinnikinnick donuts are a little heavy for me too, but their cinnamon rolls are really good. I've had limited success with an old-fashioned "fried bread" type of thing like my grandma used to make. She would just take regular (gluten of course) bread dough and flatten and stretch a ball of it with her hands until it was kind of like a fritter size. Then...
  21. I will be praying for you. Hugs, Nancy
  22. (Carla - I think she's saying that she's nursing as in breastfeeding.) The really bad gas was one of the biggest reasons I kept searching for answers and eventually found out about celiac. I also had to use my kids as an excuse for my issues more than once. There was a point where I had no idea what I was going to do when they got potty trained...
  23. Yea, a guy who will give you one number, but won't give you another number has something to hide, either from you or someone else. File him as an aquaintance. I hope your appt gives you some answers. Nancy
  24. Also keep in mind that men are built to want to fix everything themselves. And if men can't fix something they yell at it and pitch a fit. Nancy
  25. One of the ways I know for sure that I've been glutened is increased hair loss. If I don't get gluten it doesn't happen to me. I don't know if something else could cause it though. Nancy
