ARCHIVED Neg Iga, Borderline Igg?
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They didn't do Total Serum IgA. It was anti-gliadin IgA. I'm guessing that's different? The IgA and IgG were the only tests that she was able to find on the lab forms, of the five full-panel celiac tests. She's still sending me to a GI specialist to get a biopsy, so maybe he can send me to a lab that can do the additional tests. That, combined... -
ARCHIVED Neg Iga, Borderline Igg?
Nantzie posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I got my IgA and IgG results from my doctor yesterday. They were the only celiac tests I got. IgA was 8 (normal would be up to 25) IgG was 23.4 (normal would be up to 30, according to her) I've heard though that normal for both is up to 25, so I'm considering myself borderline positive on the IgG. From what I understand from this board, these... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Somewhat Ashamed...
Nantzie replied to GIJane's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel the same way... I was always one of those people who said, when I had kids I would never snap at my kids for every little thing. Well, here I am, eating gluten so I can get tests done, feeling spaced out, tired, angry, depressed, anxious and sick. On top of all that, I'm fighting off the cold that my kids have had for like two weeks. Plus... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Eat?
Nantzie replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm waiting to go to my biopsy too, so I've been thinking about this as well. Here's my list - I've been thinking about the upcoming holidays and all that food - real bread stuffing, pies, cakes, cookies, anything with breadcrumbs, mac and cheese, biscuits and gravy, real flour-thickened gravy, favorite gluten-containing halloween candy, homemade cinnamon... -
ARCHIVED Learning About It For The First Time
Nantzie replied to J-Man's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've got to throw my two cents in here. I'm still waiting for my test results, so I'm not sure if I have celiac yet or not, but I have been dealing with digestive issues since I was a teenager. When it comes to people in your life, be they friends, family or significant others, the most important thing is when you get sick, just to have someone to... -
ARCHIVED Going Gf Before Biopsy
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yea, I'm hoping the gastro department knows more about it than this doctor did. I'm going to wait to talk to them before I write the whole lot of them off. If the gastro dept isn't at least as well informed as a 35-year-old housewife who's done a month's worth of research, I'm not going to put too much stock into a negative diagnosis if that's how it... -
ARCHIVED Going Gf Before Biopsy
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Crud. I had a feeling you guys were going to say that... I was hoping to start feeling better. I wrote down all of the tests that Kaiti usually posts when recommending what tests to ask for. My doctor hadn't even heard of most of them, and had no idea what the tTG was. She did take my list and looked them up on her computerized lab form... -
ARCHIVED Going Gf Before Biopsy
Nantzie posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Today I went to my first doctor's appt since finding out about celiac. She seemed to know a little bit about it, but not much. She had me do blood tests. But she has already done a referral to gastro for an intestinal biopsy. She said that celiac is hard to diagnose with blood tests, so if it's suspected they do a biopsy. She did say that I should... -
Oh wow! In the womb? I only had a scoliosis check one time, in the 8th grade, but they didn't find it. I'm pretty sure it's because it's as low in my lumbar spine as it could be. They didn't even find it until I was 33!!! I had back problems for years though. I just didn't think anything of it because they have whole stores dedicated to selling...

I have scoliosis and I have heard that it can be a symptom of celiac. I was doing a lot of research when I first found out about celiac a few weeks ago, so I can't remember the source. But I do remember that it was along the line of decreased bone density due to malnutrition. I know that osteoporosis can be caused by celiac for the same reason. But...

ARCHIVED Sore Tongue, Thirst, Loss Of Bladder/bowel Functio
Nantzie replied to lorka150's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nope, you're not the only one. I've had the bowel movements just coming out too. It's awful. I haven't had an accident in public yet. But I'm a SAHM, and my bathroom is like 6 feet away. But there are times when I have to practically push my kids out of the way to get there in time. When I do go out in public, I either go by myself after my dh comes... -
ARCHIVED Pistaschio Nuts
Nantzie replied to burdee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was actually wondering about this the other day because I like pistachios too. I figured I better find out for sure before I buy some, but just kept putting it off until I saw your post. I emailed the CA Pistachio Board and they said that if the ingredients just say pistachios and salt, then it should just be salt. However, they said that you should... -
Could it be hives? I had hives all over my body, including my face once. I never found out what it was from though. Itches like crazy. Nancy

ARCHIVED When I Get Glutened, This Works For Me...
Nantzie replied to cornbread's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't heard of this yet. Any idea what is in it, or what it is? Nancy -
I've never been there, but I did a little research and found these. It seems to be pretty common over there so you shouldn't have much of a problem. Open Original Shared Link (Celiac Society of Ireland - even has a message board!!) Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Hope that helps. Nancy

ARCHIVED Msg Produces A Gluten By-product?
Nantzie replied to cowgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Found this - https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-20104606394.06 It basically says that MSG "Can utilize a gluten-containing grain or by-product in the manufacturing process, or as an ingredient." So it looks like it's one of those "natural flavors" things, where they don't really say what's in it, just what it is. Looked into... -
Kimberly! Almost the same with me. Grandpa was off the boat. Grandma was born in Minnesota, but both parents were from Sweden, so she spent a lot of time there too. I had my stepmom and her mom (my mom passed away years ago) help make Christmas cookies one year- seven kinds of cookies in one day, and we had a controversy with how thin the...

ARCHIVED Yeast Infection In Small Intestines
Nantzie replied to leudy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I came to learn about celiac through first learning about Candida Albicans, which is a yeast that lives in your intestines. It's also the same organism that causes vaginal yeast infections. When it overgrows in your digestive tract, it actually starts taking over the other other forms of digestive flora, and your digestive process becomes imbalanced and... -
Thanks everybody. I'm definitely going to try the Connie's Mix as a starting point. I'm hoping to gluten-free some old family recipes for Christmas. I always enjoy trying new traditional recipes too. But my husband doesn't even like sweets (weirdo ), so if I make something sweet, I end up eating ALL of it. So I don't bake as much as I'd like. ...

I was wondering what kind of flour or flour mix has been most successful for everyone when baking cookies? I'd love to have a flour mix that I can just keep in my cupboard for whenever I'm in the mood for regular cookies, like choc chip or whatever. But I'm also thinking forward to Christmas, because I make a lot of different kinds of cookies then; drop...

ARCHIVED Scoliosis, Osteoporosis, Chronic Pain, Etc.
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks. I will definitely ask about that when I see my doctor. For some reason I never thought about consulting a rheumatologist either. So that should help too. I feel so awful because sometimes I wish that some of the people in my life could experience what it feels like for a few days. But then I feel SO guilty for wishing that on people that... -
My grandmother on my mom's side was schizophrenic. She had an imaginary ob/gyn that she would "go to" because she thought she was pregnant. In reality, every once in a while, she would put her sweater on and get her purse, and then sit on the couch like she was waiting for someone to pick her up. After a while, she'd take off her sweater and put her...

ARCHIVED Scoliosis, Osteoporosis, Chronic Pain, Etc.
Nantzie posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Anyone else dealing with chronic pain because of something like this? I've heard it called an "invisible disability". Which is really accurate. You wouldn't know I had scoliosis to look at me because it's in my lower back. Heck, I didn't even know until a few years ago. I always had a problem with my back going out, but they've got whole stores devoted... -
