  1. I just wanted to give you a {{{HUG}}}. You just come and sit next to me. We'll figure this out. This can be a really awful time of year sometimes. Lots of pressure. Lots of food. All the happiness and fa-la-la is so freaking exhausting. I don't have any answers for you, but I really can relate to what you said. December is a bad month for me...
  2. Well Riceguy, that's a LOADED question. A big part of the reason is that my dad died of stomach cancer a year ago, and I really do want to make sure there's nothing going on in there that is more serious. My mom also died of breast cancer when she was 46. So my genetic makeup is like a minefield. Another thing is that most of my family has gone...
  3. I'm still needing to eat gluten for the biopsy, and I swear I have to force myself to do it. Every time I look in the cupboard, which is still full of what I used to enjoy eating, I get nauseous. I can just feel the nausea and other after-effects of it just by looking at it. So I'm there with ya. I won't be surprised if my biopsy turns out negative...
  4. When I got on the computer today, it was actually on the Yahoo home page, not just buried in the regular health news on their news page. It's great to see that this is something they feel is important and common enough to put it right up front. Nancy
  5. I was having a problem with my underarms. Lever 2000 soap REALLY helps. Not the body wash so much. But the regular bar of soap. Also Arrid deodorant works really well. But the Lever 2000 is the key for me as far as that goes. Nancy
  6. I get really cold too. I call it being cold all the way down to my bones. It almost hurts to be that cold. I mever felt like I produced my own body heat either. But since having kids I alternate between being that cold to being totally hot and sweaty. I think my hormones are still off. I have a cousin who went through menopause when she was 32, so...
  7. YAY!!! What a relief that must have been. I think I would have started crying. Nancy
  8. I don't have the main celiac genes, but I do have a pair of DQ1's. And I'm telling you, even though I don't have the celiac genes, gluten just makes me feel horrible. I tried a couple of trials off it, then on it, and it's like I'm a completely different person when I'm on gluten. So as soon as I get my biopsy done in Jan/Feb, I'm parked my booty permanently...
  9. I have found this from the NIH (National Institutes of Health), which is a .gov rather than a .com to be a very concise, clear, and relatively inclusive description of celiac. The NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. So if a doctor won't take that as a credible resource, I don't know what it would take. Open Original Shared...
  10. It sounds like, for a lot of us, there are several periods of rapidly appearing symptoms, followed by periods of just adapting to the symptoms because nobody thought to look for celiac. Nancy
  11. I've got an idea on what might be an effective response. "Would you behave like that if I had diabetes?" Nancy
  12. I started having GI problems when I was 17, right after I had mono. But I started having noticeable problems in school with brain fog, memory and concentration when I was in 4th grade. (Most of my symptoms are neuro rather than gastro, so I think there's a connection to my problems in school.) Parents and teachers said that I just wasn't "applying myself...
  13. I've been wondering about that no eye contact thing a little more. I wonder if there's any connection to that same behavior in autism (which I know may have some connection with celiac and other food problems)? Like maybe people with celiac and people with autism have a problem with the same area of the brain. I know they say that with autism they can...

    ARCHIVED I Did It!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!! Nancy
  15. I have been in the same boat with my husband and his parents. And I'm still waiting for my biopsy, so I'm still eating gluten (but only as much as I have to). So I haven't even broached the subject of cross-contamination with them yet. Not looking forward to that conversation. It always strikes me as so odd when someone doesn't understand this. It...
  16. How awful. I'm just so glad you found us here and you didn't have to go through this without people to talk to who understand. I just don't understand how people can be so cruel about something that doesn't effect them one bit. It's not like THEY would have to miss out on the food. All they had to do is be polite. Why is that so hard? Grr....
  17. I'm female. And 35. And still proudly playing with toys, thankyouverymuch. We've got two kids, a 3yo girl and a 2yo boy. My daughter is getting a dollhouse for Christmas, and I can't wait to PLAY WITH IT. Next year when our son turns three, we're getting him a racecar bed. Because I told my husband they don't make them in king size. Hehe...
  18. You should call his doctor and let him know that your husband had the blackish stool. Black stool can sometimes mean there is some bleeding. It can also be caused by other things, like food, iron supplements and even pepto-bismol, but I'd mention it to the doctor. Here's a link for more info - Open Original Shared Link Nancy
  19. Open Original Shared Link Not sure how modification of bacterial flora in the GI tract would help with celiac disease. Sounds more like something that would help candida and that type of thing. Maybe there's more to it than what the article talks about. Nancy
  20. Ooo... Those nut thins sound good. So do the other ones. Thanks guys!
  21. Yep, you're definitely barking up the right tree. Brain fog, memory and concentration problems. Avoiding people because you either have to look them in the eye, or have a conversation that you might not be able to concentrate on, or both. Sometimes, if I have a lot of gluten, I start noticing that I can't quite control my tongue and start slurring a little...
  22. Anybody have any favorite gluten-free crackers? I'd love something to eat with cheese, and I used to put my tuna salad on crackers too. I've got some Mary's Gone Crackers, which are pretty good, but just wondering what everybody else likes. Nancy
  23. Hi Nancy! I'm Nancy too! And I've got the same problem with one section of my family. Unfortunately, that includes my husband to some extent, although I am seeing some progress with him. They react to the whole thing like I told them that I think aliens are reading my mind or something. It drives me nuts because if I had diabetes or heart disease...
  24. If it were me, I'd do just the opposite and try him on a gluten free diet before I'd even consider giving him such intense medication.
