  1. I did my genetic testing through Enterolab, and found out I have DQ1, which is not tested for by Kimball. It's not considered a celiac gene, but I have found that I just feel better mentally, physically and intellectually off of gluten. So I'm going gluten-free. My symptoms on gluten are headaches, body pain, nausea and stomach cramps, difficulty concentrating...
  2. Hi! Welcome to the boards. This is a great place, with a lot of helpful information and friendly people. I was thinking about the gluten guard software too. They do say on their site that even though they try to keep things up to date, they can't guarantee anything because manufacturers can change their ingredients at any time. So they recommend that...
  3. Does she take anything else for her stomach upset, or just the lactose pills? And are they Lactaid or a different brand? Just wanted to point out that anything she might take for stomach upset (or anything else) needs to be checked for gluten. I think they usually list the fillers/binders under "inactive ingredients". A lot of antacids and things like...
  4. Threelac is a powder that you take once a day. It's beneficial bacteria that actually eats the candida, so you don't have to do a candida cleanse. Threelac is really amazing and does exactly what it says it does. A lot of people are put off by it or don't want to try it though because it's sold through distributors, so they think it's BS without giving...
  5. Oh, and I forgot to recommend a tea called Smooth Move. I get it at my regular grocery store, in the health food section. And I've seen it in all the health food stores. I had a period of time where I wouldn't be able to go for days, but then when I finally was able it go it was awful diarrhea that lasted for most of the day. I wasn't able to predict...
  6. Oh... That made me cry. What a wonderful lady... Nancy
  7. YAY! I'm glad you've got an answer. It's a relief to know that you've been barking up the right tree, huh? Nancy
  8. Yea, at this point, I've tested neg TTG on the York home test, and low on the IgG and IgA, so I'm pretty much expecting that I'll have a negative biopsy, therefore, not celiac. BUT, I feel like a completely different person off gluten, and it's obvious to me that my body, my intellect and my psyche are all negatively effected by gluten. So, the...
  9. You're such a sweet husband, helping her figure this out. You might want to think about trying some time off the lettuce/salad and raw veggies, and go with steamed or cooked veggies to see if there's a difference at all. There was one point in my life that if I ate just plain old iceberg lettuce I felt like I had eaten glass. Very painful. Not sure...
  10. One of the things that happened to me that made me start noticing wheat as being a problem for me was when I almost passed out after drinking wheat grass. Which was scary because I was home alone with my 1yo and 2.5yo. Who know what they could have gotten into. Nancy
  11. I definitely feel her pain. Not being able to do something seemingly predictable, like trust your body to behave a certain way is exhausting. You have to be constantly on guard, and know where all the bathrooms are. Every stomach twinge or wave of nausea gives me an anxiety attack because I don't know if it's a passing thing or if I have to run to the...
  12. I have definitely seen joint pain as being a celiac symptom on lists before. Personally, my whole back area, from my neck, my shoulders, and my hips and all in between completely tighten up. I even get some stabbing pain in my hips especially that will actually make me gasp out loud; like a twinge or a spasm. I don't experience it as joint or bone pain...
  13. I've had a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer for a few years. I only hauled it out a few times, and always for gluten-filled baking marathons. I'd hate to give it up now that I have all these new gluten-free breads to make. It's practically new. I know that the bowl and attachments are easy enough to clean. I'm thinking more about the flour that might have gotten...
  14. Mom was 100% Swedish, some of which had some German heritage from back in the early 1800's. My Dad didn't know his ethnic background. He had ruddy olive skin and black hair. We figure most likely Native American, but maybe Italian, maybe Spanish. Or a mix of a few things? I've always been curious, so I'm going to get my genetics done someday and find...
  15. Hi ERA's mom. I've got a lot of family history of psychiatric problems. Personally, I have depression and anxiety, including anger, social anxiety, obsessive thoughts, insomnia, anxiety dreams and nightmares when I'm on gluten. I also have a hard time with memory, concentration and comprehension when I'm on gluten. When I'm off of gluten, I feel like...
  16. I think Victoria Beckham is (Posh Spice). I did a search once, wondering the same thing as you, and she came up. There were references to her having it, and her craving gluten-free choc chip cookies during her pregnancy, but no specific statement by her about it, and nothing said about whether or not her son has it. Nancy
  17. Hi! I did a websearch for you and found tons of pages saying that an overdose is extremely rare and not life threatening. I wasn't able to find a description of the symptoms of an overdose, but I did find one page that actually described side effects and symptoms of allergic reaction, which I would assume would be similar. Open Original Shared Link...
  18. I have that. The first time I noticed that there might be a link to something bigger was when I went on an anti-candida diet about five years ago, which by its nature is gluten-free. The KP went away almost completely on one arm with just a few scattered bumps, but was just as bad as ever on the other. It's stayed that way all these years too. It was...
  19. Hi BK! I'm glad you checked in. I totally understand the bad memory thing. I have a horrible memory. So does my husband. You know how when you go to the store, you're supposed to have a list right? Well, not me. I've tried to make a list, but from the time I have a thought that I need to buy something, to the 10 seconds it takes to just pick...
  20. Thanks guys! I really feel at home here, and I'm glad I can help. Nancy
  21. I hope you pop back in and let us know how you're doing. Thinking about you. Nancy
  22. Thank you so much for sharing that. I really needed it. I've had scoliosis and body pain so bad in the last 3 years that I couldn't even lift my newborn son into his baby swing or put my kids in their car seats just to go to the drive thru at McDonalds. My family (my in-laws, to be specific) blamed me and is still somewhat stuck in that cycle. It's amazing...
  23. I think your plan sounds good. It makes sense to me that some people would take a while to get symptoms again after a long period of gluten-free. If your intestines had healed and then the damage slowly came on again, it might take a while to get symptoms. Nancy
  24. Spelt is actually a subspecies of wheat. I never realized that until recently. -- Open Original Shared Link But then, just to make things even more aggravating, buckwheat isn't related to wheat at all. It's actually a fruit - related to rhubarb and sorrel. Since you're a cereal eater, you'll also want to check your ingredients for malt...
  25. That's AWESOME! You must be feeling so great to be heading in the right direction. I hope you keep feeling better. Nancy
