First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your pregnancy!!! I agree with everyone else, just keep eating gluten free during your pregnancy. It's a healthy way to eat, even without celiac. People who have to eat gluten free end up eating a lot more whole foods rather than junk food. So you're good there. As far as feeding your baby, it's always best to...

Yay! I'm glad the fax worked for you. It's always effective. Nancy -
I didn't even finish reading the article, it's just too gross... I've read about it before though. I really think that this is one of the reasons that ORGANIC food is SO popular. They just opened a Super Walmart here; the kind with the grocery store in it. I went there last week and they had ORGANIC MILK. Organic Milk. In a WAL-MART. If that...

My stepmom is the queen of getting this kind of noncommunication taken care of. The first thing she does of course is the standard phone tag for a few days or a week, depending on how urgent the situation is. But if that goes on to the point where it's completely unprofessional or seriously inconsiderate, and she knows they're either blowing her off or... -

ARCHIVED Genes Can Be 'changed' By Foods
Nantzie replied to Claire's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I bet you're right Gina. Like a celiac genetic marker that was activated would become deactivated, but not nonexistant. So if you theoretically got to the point where your celiac genes became deactivated, you'd still run the risk of them becoming activated again the same way they became activated in the first place. The pruning out aspect of it makes... -

ARCHIVED Genes Can Be 'changed' By Foods
Nantzie replied to Claire's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
WOW! Very interesting. I hope they keep up on the research along this line of reasoning. It will be interesting to see how this research progresses over the next several years. It would be cool for someone who has gotten their genes done to have them re-done by the same lab after a few years gluten-free to see if the same genetic markers come up.... -
I swear I've seen fingernail ridges on a symptom list of celiac somewhere. But it's hard to know how deep or strong the ridges would be in order to be considered not just average fingernail ridges. I've also heard that the white spots on your nails are a sign of vitamin deficiency, but I don't remember what vitamin. But I've also heard that the white spots...

I remember this being explained extremely well by someone here. I bookmarked it so I wouldn't lose it. "One of the things I almost immediatly explain is that... "it is an autoimmune disease like lupus or MS. When I eat gluten, my body responds to it like it's poison. Antibodies are sent out to destroy it but can't tell the difference between the gluten... -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Gluten-withdrawl?
Nantzie replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Speaking as someone who has been on the Atkins diet a few times, as well as some other carb and/or gluten eliminating weight loss diets, your cravings will be INSANE for about 3-5 days when you go off of gluten. But then after that, it reduces greatly. I think it has a lot to do with the opiate qualities of gluten. Gluten really is addicting. ... -
I have heard that it is. I have a family history that is suspicious for both digestive and neurological manifestations of celiac, and one of my cousins was diagnosed with MS. I did a websearch for you and found this on the BrainTalk boards. From what I understand they tend to discuss the neurological aspects of gluten on that board a lot more than...

I used to visit an adult ADD board years ago and there were a surprising number of people on there who hated making phone calls. There was a big discussion about it. I've always hated making phone calls. Because sometimes by the time the person says hello, I have no idea who I called, and then no idea WHY I called, and it's just embarrassing. I much...

ARCHIVED So, What's The Worst Complication?
Nantzie replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes. Definitely think outside the box for breakfast. I always used to have leftovers from the night before for breakfast. But since I got married, there really aren't any leftovers. The only time I ever have "breakfast food" is if we go out for breakfast. My daughter eats a PB&J or peanut butter and crackers and cereal bars because she doesn't... -

Thanks everybody for your replies. Yea, that's what I was afraid of. I'm definitely going to go on a gluten free diet no matter the test results. I just really believe it will help me. I also think that my dd needs to go on it too. The other day she finished a whole PB&J and then asked me for chicken nuggets. I told her no, so then she asked for... -
ARCHIVED So, What's The Worst Complication?
Nantzie replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
At first, some people might not get too worried about the possibility of it taking 10 years off your life. Because it's the last 10. (Ha Ha. Old joke...) My dad died when he was 61. When you're in your 20's, 30's or even 40's, that doesn't seem too bad. But let me tell you about when he died. Not how old he was. But what was happening in his life... -

ARCHIVED Let's Write A Dining Card That Works!
Nantzie replied to cornbread's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Very true. It shouldn't matter how THEIR day or week will be ruined (because of your symptoms). It should just matter that you asked them to do something as a guest of their establishment. I've read on here that people have more luck with this if they talk to the manager ahead of time. But, that's not always possible, especially if you're traveling... -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Celiac?
Nantzie replied to flash67's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My grandmother had schizophrenia, and I've got several relatives with possible gluten problems, both neurological and digestive. I've also got a first cousin with multiple sclerosis.
