Celiac.com - Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Diet Support Since 1995

Everything posted by SkyBlue4

  1. I have rosacea and I'm hoping it will resolve soon with the gluten-free diet. Aside from gluten, my triggers are alcohol, heat and stress. When a flare hits, I glow like a big, red tomato. As cyclinglady mentioned, using make-up with a green tint is a great way to conceal the redness. A green moisturizer is available, too. I use one made by Eucerin and...
  2. The side of my family that has celiac disease - Irish, English and American Indian. The other side has no celiac disease and is Irish/Italian.
  3. I apologize if this has been discussed before but my search didn't turn up a thread specific to this. I keep reading mention of various vitamin deficiencies and I am wondering what vitamin deficiencies you suffer(ed) with? Kind of like a poll (I don't know how to create a poll or I would have :-) I am Vitamin D deficient.
  4. Many of us were diagnosed with IBS years before we discovered we actually had celiac disease. Just to be clear, celiac disease is an autoimmune disease and not an allergy. Did you have a celiac disease panel completed? It should include the following- Total IgA tTG IgA and IgG DGP IgA and IgG EMA IgA If you haven't had the panel run yet, have...
  5. Just another possibility...my son was dx'd with lactose intolerance and the GI doctor said my son's halitosis was caused by that.
  6. Wow, I have not seen lab results reported like that. Hopefully someone will be along soon who can explain them. Good luck with everything!
  7. Mmmm, this sounds delicious! I'm definitely going to give this a try. Thanks for sharing!

    ARCHIVED Holidays

Well, I certainly understand how important it is to be with family during the holidays but this will no doubt be a challenging year for you and your son. I was recently diagnosed and don't plan to travel this year because I am still learning and it would just be too difficult to "stay clean" at someone else's home. That said, if you are going to travel...
  10. Yes, get in touch with a GI doctor and follow up on the labs.
  11. If you are already gluten free and you feel better gluten free, I would forgo the whole formal diagnosis at this point and stick to the diet. If prefer to continue to be evaluated for celiac disease, then you have to go back on gluten and continue that for several weeks before further testing. Perhaps ask your PCP to run the Celiac panel for you? Make...
  12. I have a +ANA titer. I have been evaluated by several Rheumatologists over the years b/c I also have joint pain along with some other symptoms. They thought I had lupus initially but it has been ruled out thus far. The doctors can only shrug and tell me that people walk around all of the time with an elevated titer and never develop further problems. It is...
  13. My GI doctor diagnosed celiac disease based on my bloodwork. He informed me that the outcome of my endoscopy and biopsies would not change the diagnosis but would simply help him assess the extent of the damage. I've heard from several doctors now that it is very easy to miss celiac disease since the scope can only reach the entrance to the small intestines...

    ARCHIVED Ocd

My son is struggling with OCD. They believe it was brought on by a strep infection that he had when he was just 7 yrs old. It calmed down and he was able to function well until this summer when it returned with a vengeance. We're not sure what caused it to resurface again so severely. He's constantly tortured by intrusive thoughts and not able to attend school...
  15. Were those the only tests that were run? Did they provide you with a total IGA number? Can you post the lab reference ranges, too? If you suspect celiac disease, they would perform an endoscopy and not a colonoscopy. It's frustrating when your pediatrician doesn't work with you. I've been there! Can you see a different doctor?
  16. I'm actually the host every year so I'm fully responsible for the meal preparation. I'm still stressed a bit though because this will be my first gluten-free Thanksgiving and I'm worried about how the family will receive it. Like someone mentioned though, a lot of the food on Thanksgiving is already gluten-free. Just be watchful of the gluten-free dishes...
  17. These are not stupid questions. A good many of us are wondering the same things. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  18. I would take a multivitamin with folic acid and give yourself some time to heal first. I've never heard of celiac disease getting worse on a gluten free diet. A few months gluten-free would go a long way health-wise.
  19. Yep, I've lost babies also. I am so sorry for your loss. No matter how you might have felt when you first found out you were pregnant, it is clear by your post that that baby was already loved. Take care and be gentle on yourself now as you heal.
  20. I have serious brain fog, too! I am embarrassed fairly frequently by my inability to think clearly and recall facts especially in professional environments. I have a laundry list of symptoms that I can attribute to celiac disease but I am hoping my brain fog will be among one of the first symptoms to clear.
  21. It would be helpful if you posted the results of all of the Celiac tests that were run as well as the lab range. Then we could take a look and tell you more.
  22. Definitely do what has already been suggested and take notes with you on your symptoms, family history and copies of any relevant labs you've already had done. Good luck!
  23. Just as a f/u to my post- my PCP could only suggest supplementing with Biotin and fish oil. We're running some labs to look for possible deficiencies (in the past they've only checked my calcium and vitamin D). I hope you get some answers soon before you lose anymore nails!
