  1. Hello I have /had all sorts of gut pains.I thought it could be any number of things.I'm glad to be informed that we could possibly have gastritis alone or with celiac disease. I guess a full Gastrointestional exam would diagnose you,but I haven't the means right now. Thanks for enlightening!
  2. You could probably try a gluten free diet to see If that helps with symptoms.Whole foods markets sells Gluten free bread flours.I got some and I feel better already.I did get a $150 enterolab DNA test, which doesn't have to be repeated, and I carry both the genes for celiac, but I haven't been to a doctor about it.But with my symptoms and the tests results ...
  3. hi I had the same thing. No one seemed to understand, though. Though my mother got panicky and though I should go to the doctor(at the clinic). I had a very ,sore stiffness in my chest right where my heart and upper rib cage is .It hurt to breath cough, turn over in bed or move in general.I was thinking,"Now what the hell is this condition"?But I figured...
  4. Hi Ya, I noticed mucus in my stools too, just recently, and I had already suspected Celiac for quite a few months. When I saw the mucus I thought God,I'm dying. It wasn't a whole lot of mucus, but it was noticable.I haven't seen it since and have been eating gluten free products only recently, but I feel no discomfort, see no more mucus,so I guess it was the...
  5. Haven't been to a doctor.Symptoms not the most severe kind.Just can't eat my favorite foods for the discomfort. That and an enteroLab Gene Test sort of diagnosed me or convinces me what I've been feeling is Celiac. Some doctors probably wouldn't have done better at diagnosing me. I've the two major genes that causes Celiac, the wicked witch of the North AND...
  6. I love cream soups,so I try to make my own.I use the recipe that's in the cook book and instead of flour I used corn starch, because at the time that's all I had handy.Cream of mushroom, cream of celery,... Websites serving Celiacs, recommend potato Starch for thickening gravies and soups. A Betty Crocker I have says: ...
  7. Chinese food is mostly rice, meat, and vegetables ,so I can eat any of that.I'll probably order Chinese takeout for New Years Eve! Chow Mein for me . But I don't know what their fried noodles are made of -I couldn't seem to eat them, and I don't know about their egg rolls-What is that dough made of? I have to ask them?It costs about $3.65 a pint including...
  8. I like all the traditional good foods too,but I don't feel so left out or hungry OR sick as long as I can get some gluten -free products.I bought gluten free flour and made bisquits. They make a pretty good bread.I felt full and satisfied, with no side effects.I also made gluten free Choc.chip cookies.I can hardly tell them from the regulars,And all gluten...
  9. I sure like candy, and most of the extra sweet kind is made with corn syrup, like salt water taffys, lemon heads, gum drops and orange slices. And for ValentinesDay-cinnamon hearts. bubble Gum too! Licorice has always been a favorite of mine but THAT is made with wheat so it irritates my gut. I ought to try to get the recipe and make it with a gluten free flour...
  10. I didn't think of that even though I know things can be absorbed through the skin. There ought to be a company that makes reasonably priced things just for Celiacs,so we won't have to scan everything for it's wheat content.I don't know who would start the company ,run it and do the research to make products ,but somebody ought to.That way you could just go...
  11. I'm near Phila.,Ken. Whatdya like to do? Or who ya lookin' for? I'm a lil dysfunctional right now,but I'm still doin' OK. Do you like Philly cheese steaks? On a gluten free roll I guess. Same here. And Philly Pretzels when you can find 'em? Me too;love'em but I can hardly stomach the bread there made out of,but I still love 'em,just I don't eat 'em anymore...
  12. Does Gluten affect the surface of the skin? I thought it only affected our intestines through eating it,besides most shampoos don't contain wheat anyway, only a few rare ones do.Most probably are made with a vegetable glycerin/soap base, hardly any gluten at all ,though more products are being made with food ingredients like soy, fruits.and the like.
  13. Thanks Annette, you'e right about the diet adjustment, that it's the same with or without being tested.I guess the test just helps confirm if you have it ,because I feel sort of odd all over so I'm not sure what my condition is,like it could be something else,or a combination of celiac and other conditions.I'm can rule out things I was tested for.I'm not lactose...
  14. I guess it's the Celiacs who can't eat anything,I mean face it ,it's not Mcdonald's fault.Cellies'll have to make all their own special food, and stick too it.I'm not trying to make the rest of the world gluten free.Or maybe there should be a whole gluten free market ( including irritant-free coffee flavoring),since most things are thickened with flour.

    ARCHIVED "celiac Isn't Hereditary"

Hi Bean ,I registered here 9/20/05,but I just started writing here today.I can't believe Celiac is not hereditary. If it isn't ,then how would it have a genetic basis?I know anybody can wind up with it,maybe because they have a particular weakness. But it's definitely carried in some people's genes, that's for sure.I'll get tested when I get the money. As for...
  16. I think I might have a problem with Gluten.I love bread but noticed about three years ago that I have major trouble digesting it-trouble that lasts for days.So I started staying away from American food favorites like pretzels, pasta, pizza, oatmeal, most breads, anything bready, grainy. My age is early 30's.I'm currently uninsured, but I've heard of people WITH...
