ARCHIVED Non-celiac, But Gluten Free....
Nancym replied to jajus100's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, its sort of hard to argue with the body. I found out I'm not digesting milk correctly either. Amazing how much better I feel since giving that one up too! -
Hello again! Yes, I am having issues with owies all over. Right now my left jaw and right forearm tendon are the worst. I have been gluten free for 3 months and dairy free for 2.5 days. I'm going to go on a really strict diet of nothing but safe foods (hopefully) and see if it helps. But I have to eat up my fridge contents first. I'm trying to...

It was on Mystery Diagnosis recently. There's all sorts of information on the Web. Have you googled it yet?

ARCHIVED Are You Gluten-free?
Nancym replied to Lovinglife's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been gluten free for 3 months, dairy free for 2.5 days. I'm still suffering from joint/muscle/tendon pain and I just broke out with eczema! Argh! I'm going to try a very minimalist diet and omit every possible bad thing and try adding things experimentally. -
ARCHIVED Casein Intolerant Too, But What Does That Mean?

Oh! Here's an interesting article at wikipedia about the different sorts of pasteurizing. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Mucos In Stool
Nancym replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get this too. It concerns me because I know the intestinal wall consists of a mucosal wall that is one cell thick and is supposed to keep the intestinal contents out of the blood stream. So when I see mucos in my stool, I'm always afraid it's this precious wall! -
ARCHIVED Undiagnosed
Nancym replied to Niteyx13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think Dr. Fine is finding out that the human race is maladapted to eating wheat and that's going to make a lot of people uncomfortable... think of the argriculture industry. You thought Pharma was big bidness... well, agriculture is probably lots bigger. Add to that the food processing industry and boy, we're talking about a lot of GDP. As far as... -
ARCHIVED Tested Once, Doubting The Results
Nancym replied to the57motz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why is a 50 year old test necessary? Its inaccurate and really doesn't tell you if you have the form of celiac disease that doesn't cause villi damage. It is still damaging to you even if your villi aren't damaged. Some gluten sensitives get terrible neurological damage and never have damaged villi. Dr. Fine believes that villi damage is the end-stage... -
ARCHIVED 2nd Month Gluten Free And Terribly Constipated
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You might want to cancel that pickup of your stool. Here's what I did, it'll take the pressure off you. I followed their instructions, got the stool sample, wrapped it thoroughly inside a couple of plastic bags (inside the container, of course), then I stuck it in the freezer. I found out where there was a DHL drop box, verified it was ok to drop my lab... -
ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance Symptoms
Nancym replied to Felidae's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For me my abdomen swells, the winds rise then I either get constipation or near-diarrhea (lots of bm's that are nasty and sticky). Funny thing is, I never noticed it before, I thought it was just normal for me. But once I got the diagnosis, I went on one last ice cream binge and could feel it all happening! I have only been casein free for 1.5 days... -
I've gone through a lot of thyroid med changes recently and discovered I'm both gluten and casein intolerant. I've nearly gone a full circle now! I had a lot of brain fog, coldness, tiredness, not feeling rested after sleeping and discovered my Free T3 was below range, this was in late 2004. I got my doctor to switch me to Armour thyroid, which contains...

ARCHIVED Casein Intolerant Too, But What Does That Mean?
Nancym posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just curious, there's tons of information out there about how gluten intolerance is related to various diseases but I haven't seen much on casein intolerance. Is it not as bad as gluten intolerance? My impression is that it either isn't as bad or else it just hasn't been studied. I'm wondering whether I can tolerate an occassional casein-ing and just suffer... -
ARCHIVED 2nd Month Gluten Free And Terribly Constipated
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got my results back from Enterolab. Looks like I'm casein intolerant as well as gluten intolerant. I celebrated on NY's eve with a huge amount of ice cream and my gut reacted badly to that! NY's day was my first casein free day and today I notice that the big bloating in my belly is going down. I might have a flat stomach again someday! Gosh, to think... -
ARCHIVED Got My Results Back!
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm glad you found info on 0501! That is one of my gene copies. I definitely think it was active in me. I had the brain fog thing going on too. I thought it was due to my thyroid medication not working well, but now I'm thinking it is otherwise! I'm cutting back on my T3 thyroid meds and not feeling that brain fog. I think I might be able to stop taking... -
ARCHIVED My Symptoms... Please Help
Nancym replied to romeo77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I decided to go ahead and have my testing done by Enterolab.com and found out I'm also casein intolerant! I suspect this is the answer to why I'm still having intestinal issues. Guess what my NY's resolution is? Yup, give up milk products! (Already gave up gluten... into the 3rd month of my two week trial) *grumble* Milk products are... -
ARCHIVED Got My Results Back!
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I had a feeling like I had to go potty even though I didn't. Felt like a kind of pressure in my lower abdomen, someone poking my intestines. Then I got this horrible pain in whatever muscle it is that you use to urinate or defecate. It hurt like hell to sit on the toilet, it even hurt into my back. And finally I started getting bad menstrual cramps... -
ARCHIVED Got My Results Back!
Nancym posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I got the testing done with enterolab.com. I had been gluten free for nearly 3 months. All my cramping and weird diarrhea went away my second day gluten free. That kind of confirmed my suspicion but I figured I'd get the testing done to see for sure. I have the antigens and a small bit of antigens to casein too. :\ But I can't quite figure out... -
ARCHIVED My Symptoms... Please Help
Nancym replied to romeo77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When I first started my gluten-free diet my IBS cleared up for the first time in years. It was amazing. My poops were sterling silver. Well, it felt that way anyway. Life was good. But then I went into some terrible constipation, and that feeling of incomplete BMs, and that plagued me for about 6 weeks. But suddenly it has cleared up and I'm back to... -
I agree with the OP. I had spoken with my sister a week or so before our holiday meal to make sure she understood the parameters, that I can't eat anything with wheat. I brought a rice dressing, a gluten free dessert. She had purchased a pre-cooked turkey and ham... they both contained wheat! So I basically had dressing and my gluten-free trifle. *sigh...

ARCHIVED 2nd Month Gluten Free And Terribly Constipated
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm taking magnesium too. 500mg a day. It isn't working. :\ Well, maybe it needs to build up in the system a bit, I've only been on it a couple of days. I've been eating a lowish carb diet (not much in terms of grains) for years but with lots of veggies. I'm experimenting making some kind of a pumpkin bready thing with psyllium husks and flax seed... -
ARCHIVED 2nd Month Gluten Free And Terribly Constipated
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Maybe I should try some fruit. I've been eating tons of veggies, huge salad at lunch with spinach, asparagus, artichoke hearts and then usually a large serving of veggies at dinner too. Plus I've been making some bread with corn bran and flax. But it all is for naught! I'll give the apples a try. -
Thanks for the feedback. I'm a tough cookie and will end up doing exactly as I want regardless of anyones approval. I'm not one of the super obviously sick people, my illnesses tended to be autoimmune and, of course, almost constant IBS. Never lost weight, never got really run down or anything. I'm not sure what will happen when I accidently get gluten...

I could write my own book on grieving for food. I have made so many dietary changes in the last 3 years and given up so many, many foods I loved. I first adopted low-carb way of eating to lose weight, eventually I realized my dietary changes need to be permanent. Then I figured out that gluten was hurting me. That meant all my low-carb baking methods...

Just curious, I'm starting to get the looks and awkward silences from my family (Mom, siblings, etc) regarding my gluten intolerance. I'm suspecting they think I'm making it all up and being a hypocondriac and carrying my gluten-free diet too far when I go out to eat and inquire as to the ingredients in things. Anyone ever find something good they could...

ARCHIVED 2nd Month Gluten Free And Terribly Constipated
Nancym posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have an official diagnosis yet of Celiac, probably never will other than the Enterolab testing I'm doing right now. But I have had IBS for years and years. Usually it was cramping, terrible gas, bordering on diarhea and really nasty, messy bowel movements. I have had thyroid disease and a few other things that made me perk up when someone mentioned...
