  1. The problem is that people equate celiac disease with wheat allergy -- not the same thing!
  2. The problem with this thread is that it does not take into account individual sensitivites. Some people can tolerate more/less than others (in relatively small amounts)... This is akin to my best friend Mark (who is Italian) telling me (Scottish/German/English) that since he does not sunburn badly in the middle of summer than neither will I (ha!!). Mark...
  3. In my opinion, I would not touch a dessert that has a graham cracker crust --- the chances for cross-contamination are huge. Also, Rice Krispies are not gluten free -- they have barley in them. Even if you do not feel a symptom after eating gluten, it could still hurt you...I would exercise enormous caution when it comes to getting used to the diet...
  4. celiac disease Fact Sheet & atypical symptoms Celiac Disease(celiac disease) Fact Sheet/Overview Celiac disease is a digestive condition triggered by consumption of the protein gluten, which is found in bread, pasta, cookies, pizza crust and other foods containing wheat, barley or rye, and some oats. When a person with celiac disease eats foods containing...
  5. Response from Carlsberg Beer (DO NOT DRINK IT!!!!!) Dear _____: Thank you for your question about the use of barley and wheat in beer brewing. The main raw material in beer brewing is malt made from barley, i.e. barley malt. All Carlsberg beers are then made from barley. Malt is germinated and dried cereal, where the malting has set the enzymes of...
  6. Judy, I grew up in Beavercreek (outside Dayton) and I also lived in Columbus (I went to OSU)... Delaware is a great area -- sort of a mix between Anne of Green Gables and Deliverance -- haha
  7. Just post the list on this thread... I'm sure we all would like to see it (I know I would!!!)
  8. Lisa, Where is the article?
  9. Well, I am a bit skeptical of the treatment... I think it is simply applying accupressure/accupuncture after/during consumption of the known allergen....correct? Seems like a gamble to me...
  10. Anybody know why New Grist is not on their website??? This is frustrating -- I am trying to get stores and distributors to carry it and the darn company won't put it on their website... ARGH!
  11. Karen, Have your tried making Schezwan at home?? Schezwan Chicken Boneless Chicken - cut into pieces Egg - 1-2 eggs Corn flour - Depends on personal taste (how breaded you like it) Allpurpose flour gluten-free Flour - Depends how breaded you like the chicken Salt - As reqd Sugar - as req'd Black pepper powder - ½ ...
  12. Mango, I like the Lemon-Lime, the Tangerine and the Orange. Its so convienent to put the packet in your bottled water and "go"... Plus, is sorta tasted like Crystal Light (but with vitamins and minerals)
  13. I don't know if you guys use this stuff (I do and I love it) -- it works like coffee, except no caffeine and tons of vitamins and minerals (its actually pretty incredible for hangover as well ) Here is their response: Thank you for your interest in Emer'gen-C. In testing, we found that Raspberry and Mixed Berry Emer'gen-C may contain wheat (some...
  14. The Whole Foods here in Vegas keeps the gluten-free Bakehouse stuff and the Kinnikinnick stuff in the freezer (down from the frozen veggies and Alexia French Fries -- yum yum) I also like Amy's gluten-free Frozen Mac N Cheese Amy's gluten-free Frozen Rice Lasagna Whole Foods Jalapeno Burgers Annies Salad Dressing (I like the Tuscan Italian...
  15. Always check with the company before spreading information like this on this board. AMSTEL, HEINEKEN, CORONA, SAPPORO and CARLSBERG are ALL made with barley in the process. Beer is not distilled - it is fermented and filtered -- this process does not remove the gluten. DO NOT DRINK THESE BEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Sorry Claire, I misread your post -- I thought it said "I am NOT computer savvy" -- my fault -- now my former post looks condescending... No offense I hope Welcome to the group Kaiti and Brit! We now have 13 -- keep em coming!!
  17. I use either a mixture of potato/corn starch with some tapioca flour or I buy Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Flour Mixture -- either one worrks well. Fry them until they float, immediately salt and pepper then dip in sauce or put them in a closed bowl with sauce and "shake" Yum, yum!
  18. I agree... One of the strangest side effects of going gluten free for me was that I became SOOOOOO much more hungry (or aware of hunger) This has continued for 8 years... when I was younger, I could go half a day without eating -- now I get cranky a couple of hours after a meal -- weird huh?
  19. This is a support group. Not a judging group...or a "Troll-Watchdog" group for the internet... I don't care if you are from Brooklyn or Norway, everyone deserves a chance and some understanding. Treat everyone you meet for the first time like you treat your grandparents -- with respect and courtesy. JMO MTSL, I think reading the book "Dangerous...
  20. Peppermint oil in hot tea helps my tummy out after I have been glutened. I am also a fan of "speeding up the healing process" -- I get plenty of sleep (at least 8 hours), work out in the mornings and make sure I eat plenty of vegetables, vitamins and fiber.
  21. I make the strips by puting the tenders in an egg wash then the gluten-free flour mixture then the egg wash an then the flour again. I buy Buffalo wild Wing's Spicy Garlic sauce (they sell them in bottles at each Buffalo Wild Wings or online)
  22. Setbacks are part of the gluten free lifetstyle (unfortunately) what most people don't realize (this includes "newbies") is that in order to be successful at the gluten free diet, you must be able to master 1. Cooking/Food Knowledge 2. Ingredient Labeling 3. Risk Management in Restaurants 4. Risk Managaement in Pharmaceuticals 5. Risk Management...
  23. I eat Jimmy Dean sausage all the time.
  24. WOW! Tough crowd! Keep this up guys and people will be afraid to post here about Celiac issues... Damn, we have a bunch of English professors on this board. Tell me, did I use my ellipsis correct? Is it spelled correctly? I am speechless.
  25. It figures, I move out of San Diego and now you guys get the gluten-free beer. One would think that someone would get the hint here in Sin City... Sigh... Oh well, I will have to come visit San Diego and take a few cases home with me... Where in SD did you get it Meredith?
