  1. Papaya is a great idea. I wonder if they're in season? I know mangoes are - they were only 49 cents apiece at the store and I ate quite a few of them! Yum. I love summer fruit. Have you tried making custard for dessert? It's nice and smooth like ice cream, but maybe a little easier to make. I've been having it quite a bit. I was making it before...
  2. Thanks everyone - I think it will turn out ok after all - it's an all-morning interview with several people, but lunch is at the end and if I don't eat much, I'll be able to last until I get home. Or I'll stash some snacks in my bag and eat in my car before heading home. And as for the D - I'll start taking Pepto the night before and that should help...
  3. I don't have an ice cream maker. I think I will get one soon because I've been thinking about it since I started this diet. Plus it's summer now - and I don't have air conditioning!
  4. I have a job interview on Friday for a job I really want. First of all, I'm nervous about getting sick on that day (I tend to get really bad D when I'm stressed out, which makes me more stressed, which makes me sicker, which feeds a vicious cycle) but I just found out that I have to have lunch there too. I have no idea what to expect, but I'm sure it won...
  5. I had trouble with uncooked fruit in the beginning. It seems to be better now. I think I had to go through an adjustment period to deal with all the fiber, etc. I'm kind of surprised about the pineapple. Pineapples have digestive enzymes in them that are supposed to aid digestion, not distress it. I find that they generally make me feel better (a...

    ARCHIVED Miserable

I agree about the exercise. I was hesitant to get back to the gym because I do NOT need to burn more calories - I need to store more! But I feel so much better when I work out - both physically and emotionally. If you can find an activity that you really enjoy, even better.
  7. I can't add almonds to save my life! I keep trying, getting sick, waiting a while, and trying again. At least peanut butter seems to be ok, so I can make brownies and pancakes. Is that really all you're eating? What foods are giving you issues? Does cooking them help?
  8. I don't know about the specific tests you took, but when my allergist tested me, he said the tests were reliable only about a third of the time. These were skin tests. I tested mildly positive for a lot of things - chicken, beef, turkey, almonds, oranges, milk.....a bunch of stuff. Going on an elimination diet didn't help me feel better at all. But...

    ARCHIVED Miserable

Is it possible to identify a core group of foods that are ok for you? Maybe you should cut everything else out for a week and see how you feel. If you have no idea where to start, I would suggest going really basic, i.e. just eggs (if you tolerate them), plain meat, cooked fruits and veggies for a few days (cooked ones are easier to digest). Your body...
  10. I say, do whatever is the least stressful. And enjoy your vacation! I probably won't decide about my NY trip until the last minute. Whatever I decide now, I may change my mind anyway.
  11. I keep going back and forth on this. My choice to go on this diet and when to start it was entirely arbotrary. It's not medically necessary like the gluten-free diet, and, although I may suffer from some GI distress, I tend to think of it as not really cheating. Of course, I haven't cheated yet, because I'm afraid to let my guard down even once. But for...
  12. What happens when you have sugar after being on this diet? Do you really have to start from scratch again? I've thought about just eating normal gluten-free from time to time, but I haven't because I'm afraid to find out how my body will react. But my husband and I are thinking about going to Manhattan next weekend, and there's this fabulous restaurant...
  13. That's a great idea for a crust - I can't wait to try it. I'm still not sure that my body likes almonds. I made some great walnut cookies though that my gut seemed to tolerate, so maybe I will try cooking more with those and see how it goes.
  14. What have you been eating since you started the SCD diet? Are you still doing the intro part? I'm looking at a book on digestion and nutrition right now. These are the symptoms indicating an acute gallbladder attack: Pain in the upper right abomen radiating to the shoulder blade or neck Nausea, vomiting, severe pain Severe pain after eating...
  15. Actually, the crust didn't turn out too well, and I didn't like the taste at all. I got the recipe off of scdrecipe.com. For sauce, I just simmered down some tomato juice with spices. I think next time I will top some eggplant or zucchini slices with pizza toppings when I get the urge for pizza! What a pain about the washer.....I live in an apartment...
  16. Did you ever get that yogurt maker? Mixing a little yogurt with the farmer's cheese is good too. Now that summer's here, I won't even need to use my yogurt-maker - it's about 100 degrees in my apartment anyway, so I can culture the yogurt right out on the counter! I am trying a pizza with almond-flour crust tonight. I probably shouldn't, but my husband...
  17. Oh, I started my period today, which may be why my BMs are funny. I always have GI trouble during that time of the month. Overall, I do feel much better on this diet. Even when my BMs are a little off, I've had MUCH less gas, cramping, etc. My only concern is that I'm not digesting and absorbing properly. But I'm definitely willing to give it more...
  18. I LOVE farmer's cheese. I have it every day for breakfast (I'm happy to say that they carry it in my local store, both the salted and unsalted versions). I usually sweeten it with some honey and chop up a banana and toss it all together. Sometimes I beat up an egg and cook it like a crepe, and put some sweetened Farmer's cheese in the middle with some...
  19. So confused... My number of BMs is normal (1-2 per day), but the consistency is very strange and does NOT look healthy at all. I wonder what I'm still doing wrong? Shouldn't I be having normal-looking BMs by now?
  20. My sex drive is a lot lower than it used to be, and I'm pretty sure it's the Pill. My husband mentioned reading an article about it too, a study where they showed that women on the Pill have much lower testosterone levels. For me, it's such a vicious trade-off -- I either have miserable cramps and lose tons of blood every month and my sex drive is ok, or...
  21. I understand how you feel. Sometimes when I have to eat something different from everyone else (like at work, or a restaurant, or out on the road), I like to try a new recipe or pack something I don't usually have. Then I get excited about my lunch and don't worry too much about what other people are having. If you can't try something new, at least bring...
  22. Just over a month now - I started April 25. I was reading a post by Elaine Gottschall this morning on Breakingtheviciouscycle.info that it's not uncommon to lost weight when you start this diet because your body is re-learning how to digest, or something like that. I'm encouraged to be patient and give this diet at least another few months and see how it...
  23. I'll keep on the diet, if only because I haven't gained anything in the last two years just being gluten-free, so that obviously wasn't helping. I figure that if I can finally heal my intestines using SCD, then maybe eventually I can keep food in my system long enough to use it! Now it's time for a nice cheesy omelet!
  24. The book says that canned mixed nuts are likely a problem. You can always check with the manufacturer though to check if they're coated with starch prior to roasting. I know a couple of you are successfully losing weight with the SCD....but I'm frustrated because lost five pounds and I don't want to lose weight! I'm already underweight. I guess I need...
  25. The website Open Original Shared Link has a Food Preparation section that shows the order of introducing food. It is not really a timeline, but more of a guideline of how to build up from the basic diet. How long you stay at one stage or another depends on you and how you're feeling.
