ARCHIVED I Met My New Doc And He's The Biggest Jerk
Ursa Major replied to JenP's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jen, you sound like you have developed fibromyalgia. Since you haven't had it long, please do yourself a favour and go gluten-free immediately! You might still be able to completely reverse it. You're right, what have you got to lose? Who knows, within a few months, you might be able to play tennis again, and win! When eating gluten free, you need to... -
ARCHIVED I Got My Blood Test Results Back Today!
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My advice? Ditch this doctor! He knows absolutely NOTHING about celiac disease. Find somebody who does. And you're right, first of all you can't 'catch' celiac disease, and secondly, if he didn't run all the relevant tests, you may have celiac disease after all. Have you tried the gluten-free diet? Were you eating a lot of gluten before the tests?... -
Have his ferretin, vitamin D, Calcium + Magnesium levels been checked? A deficiency in any of those could cause fatigue.

ARCHIVED Aweful Symptoms
Ursa Major replied to Becky72's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My heart used to be racing like that, and skipping beats. Also, I had pretty much the same symptoms as you before going gluten free (and many other things free). My heart doesn't race any more, and rarely skips now. You really need to be gluten free. You will feel so much better! -
ARCHIVED I Met My New Doc And He's The Biggest Jerk
Ursa Major replied to JenP's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those things could all be caused by celiac disease. And stomach viruses? You could just be reacting to gluten, thinking it's a virus. I used to get urinary tract infections (or so I thought) frequently. Now I realize that every time I eat something wrong (especially gluten or fruit), I get that burning, searing pain in my bladder area, and frequent, painful... -
ARCHIVED I Met My New Doc And He's The Biggest Jerk
Ursa Major replied to JenP's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jen, you didn't really say if you tried the gluten free diet before seeing this arrogant doc? Because if you were gluten free, the bloodwork will likely not mean a thing and will be negative. I agree with the others, it would be better if you wouldn't go back to this doctor. My policy has always been that if a doctor makes me feel stupid and won't answer... -
ARCHIVED Question About Celiac Test
Ursa Major replied to gabyy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Gabyy, and welcome to this board. Personally, since you were actually gluten free for only a short time, and were still consuming a fair amount of gluten the past months, you should be fine for the test. Three weeks gluten free are not enough to heal the damage to your villi, if there is any. Your symptoms could very well be celiac disease.... -
Diane, I've had fibromyalgia from the age of three (or so we thought, after I was diagnosed with fibro six years ago, and knew I had symptoms from that age on). Now it is obvious, that I've always had celiac disease, and other severe food intolerances. I've had terrible back pain from the age of 7 (eventually the doctors gave up on me, and declared it...

When doing research on DH I read that it is often misdiagnosed as psoriasis. So, even though there is such a thing as psoriasis, often the doctor will diagnose DH as psoriasis, because DH is not always blistery. It is hard to accurately diagnose skin conditions, because they never look exactly the same on different people.

ARCHIVED Diagnosing A Sibling
Ursa Major replied to Amie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oops, sorry about that.............Amie, you submitted this post twice, and to get rid of the duplicate, I merged the posts, not knowing it would then also duplicate your original in this post (the last time I tried this, it didn't do that, just put any responses in.......but there were no responses yet). I am still new as a moderator. The problem with... -
I am subscribed to get several daily letters from alternative health sites, who will report on the nonsense from mainstream medicine, amongst other things. This is an excerpt from today's daily dose (it starts out with a report on Merck's lawsuits, but keep reading). From Jenny Thompson, from the Health Sciences Institute Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED How Soon After Eating Gluten Do You Fall Ill?
Ursa Major replied to againstthegrain's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I will start itching all over (enough to feel like I am going insane) after a few hours, break out in DH within a day or two, and get terrible D anywhere from four days to a week after eating gluten (it used to be 30 minutes, in January it was 24 hours, now it takes up to a week). That will take one or two days, and then I go back to normal. I also get short... -
ARCHIVED Saw A Dermatologist Today
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
G'ma, your son will need to get a skin biopsy done. I think that people who's only symptom is the rash don't always have positive bloodwork (but I could be wrong). If he gets referred to a dermatologist, and doesn't have a rash at the time he goes, after the initial visit he will be able to get in at short notice whenever he has a rash, to get the biopsy... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Test Neg To Wheat
Ursa Major replied to misgiss's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Okay, I'm in a rush, enjoy. -
Molly, I believe the only way to heal it fast, would be to have the surgery. The non-surgery route is slower, and it may not heal as well (at least that is my honest opinion). Of course, with surgery, you then have to recover from that as well, which is up to six weeks, not counting the time for the muscle to actually work properly again. Sorry, but...

ARCHIVED Allergy Test Neg To Wheat
Ursa Major replied to misgiss's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, you can have celiac disease and test negative to wheat as an allergen. I sure did! And no, corn is not a veggie, it's a grain. -
ARCHIVED Saw A Dermatologist Today
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Natalie, a GI will not take a skin biopsy......even though it would be nice if he did. You will need to be referred to a dermatologist for that. And yes, it could very well be DH. -
ARCHIVED Saw A Dermatologist Today
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Well, at this point the itching at the biopsy site is driving me crazy, and I can't even scratch! The dermatologist didn't even have antibiotic cream. He asked me if I have a private drug plan, and when I said yes, he said he'd prescribe me some to put on it. He asked if he could just call it into the pharmacy in his building, or if I needed a script, and... -
ARCHIVED Saw A Dermatologist Today
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I like your attitude, Nisla. Still, I would like to get that 'official' paper if I can. But as I said, not at any cost. This is the last time I am trying. And as for going to see the GI, I don't think I will. I don't like doctors, and don't trust them. -
ARCHIVED Saw A Dermatologist Today
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Oh yes, of course! I've gained five pounds in two days, and have a bad stomach ache, am itchy all over........who needs it! Thank you guys for your support. I have no doubt about having celiac disease, it would just be nice to shut up any doubters, that's all. I won't try again if this fails, it's not worth it damaging my intestines for and getting cancer... -
Molly, I am very glad they figured it out in the end, even though it was just in the nick of time. I hope doctors aren't quite as clueless these days (even though I am not sure much has changed yet, which is regrettable).
-
Anemia is one of the more common symptoms of celiac disease. For some people it was the only obvious symptom. Since being gluten-free makes you feel better, that may be the only evidence you ever get, unfortunately.

Ehrin, here is a link to a site with good images. This link brings you to images of the arms, you can click on the other images to see other parts of the body affected by DH. Open Original Shared Link Hope this helps.

Well, this is my one shot at trying to get an 'official' diagnosis, as in a test being done other than an extremely amazing diet response. I did eat gluten for a couple of days to trigger skin problems (I know, I am not sure it wasn't stupid myself), and sure succeded. I had a hard time sleeping last night with the insane itching and bad stomach ache,...

ARCHIVED 'allergic' To Nearly Everything...
Ursa Major replied to The-Truth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're right about the bananas, I can't have those, either. The problem with bananas are that 1) they're too starchy, and 2) contain mold. That's also why (in addition to salicylates being a problem) I have an instant allergic reaction to most melons, with burning and itching in my mouth (with the exception of watermelon). I can eat only one banana a week...
