  1. Jen, you might also not want to eat anything raw, even salad or fruit, because it's harder to digest. I couldn't eat anything raw for over a month! Actually, I just started eating more salad and raw veggies about a month ago, before that it would still sometimes cause a problem. Give it time, you'll be fine.
  2. Sparkles, here is a good article for you to read, to show you the dangers of gastric bypass surgery. After reading this, I hope you won't even consider it any more. It is better to be overweight, than dead! And I am sure that eventually you will start losing weight again. I think you started gaining again, because now your body is taking up nutrients again...
  3. Julie, if you eat mostly fresh produce, you don't even have to worry about corn! The corn allergy websites list only the processed foods, because they are the only ones you have to worry about. If you prepare it from scratch, it only has whatever you put in it.
  4. This is the best advice I've gotten this far: In October, two weeks after figuring out the celiac disease connection, somebody (no clue who) posted about lectins, with a link to the website I am linking to in my signature. I read through it all, and realized I've had problems with all those foods for years, but other than the nightshades, had never taken...
  5. Okay, you're right, my list of allowed foods is limited, but you get used to it. I pretty much eat stir fry for every meal. I eat meat or fish and certain vegetables (I try to vary things as much as I can) even for breakfast. Often I eat only one meal a day, because I can't be bothered, and just have salad with tuna for a second meal. So, this is what...
  6. Hello Sparkles, and welcome to this board. I have been in your shoes (except for the diabetes), with awful pain, fibromyalgia, and was pretty much completely handicapped and unable to do any exercise. And I was gaining and gaining weight, until by last October I was 238 pounds! And that despite having chronic diarrhea all summer last year and not being able...
  7. Betty, check out my links on lectins and salicylates (in my signature), that's what's causing most of my fibro symptoms (gluten is a lectin, but not the only one by far).
  8. Rachel, here's baking powder: 1 tablespoon cream of tartar, 1/2 tablespoon baking soda, 1/2 tablespoon arrowroot. That's it, it works just as well as the stuff you buy.
  9. My daughter is intolerant to corn. I am intolerant to all grains, including corn (you may have the same problem, maybe it's lectins? I react to all of them badly). I would NEVER have thought that xanthan gum is made from corn! But you have gotten excellent advice already, I hope you find a compounding pharmacy to make your thyroid meds without corn. It would...
  10. Hey, good for you for following your 'gut' instinct with the shampoo (pun intended)! I found that my shampoo caused me to have a terribly itchy scalp and rash. Since I've been using Dove shampoo and conditioner, and ivory soap, I am fine. Buy yourself two books: "Dangerous Grains" by James Braly, and "Celiac Disease, a hidden epidemic", by Peter H. R....
  11. I find that I get awful backaches from all foods containing lectins (which includes all dairy, eggs, all grains, lecumes, including soy and peanuts, and all nightshades). Do an elimination diet to check for other intolerances that might be causing back pain (and other pain, if you have any). Eliminating all lectins sure beats taking painkillers 24/7 for me...
  12. Spices will not destroy the villi, but could slow the healing. Go easy on the spices for a while. About 80% of celiacs are initially intolerant to dairy as well as gluten, because the small intestine makes the enzyme that allows you to digest dairy, and it can't do that when damaged. Some people will be able to tolerate dairy again after being on the diet...
  13. I am at a loss why anybody considered AS for him, Aspies are NOT dull, their speech is excellent, they have extraordinary focus, and they don't look drugged. Classic autism sounds somewhat like that. Mabiac, I self-diagnosed myself with everything that matters. First Tourette Syndrome and Asperger Syndrome, which were later confirmed by specialists. And...
  14. Michael, to get a specialist appointment here in Canada as fast as I did seems like a miracle as it is, its not likely I'd have any chance of seeing him earlier. Plus, I don't think I have a blister at this point that would work. The only one I got was right on my nose, and I popped it! Other than that, it's just things like pimples, hives etc. at this point...
  15. Well, I am seeing a dermatologist on May 1st, hoping that I would be diagnosed with DH by skin biopsy, in the process getting a firm diagnosis of celiac disease, that will hold up anywhere. So, for four days I ate two slices of rye bread, or yesterday, I ate two waffles for breakfast. I weighed myself today, and in those four days I've gained EIGHT pounds...
  16. That is a great idea. I am glad you're going to give it a try. Low constant levels of gluten in your body are almost as bad as high ones. Your intestines could be quite damaged, without the obvious symptoms. But the thyroid is a good one to check, too.
  17. First, welcome to this board! Here goes: 1) You likely had other symptoms before (the arthritis is likely caused by celiac disease), some people diagnosed by biopsy NEVER had any gastrointestinal symptoms before. In fact, sometimes the only obvious symptom (not so obvious to most doctors) is often anemia. I had fibromyagia all my life, joint pain, too...
  18. Actually, a lot of the time it is worse, not milder, when you get the disease from the vaccine. People have died from polio after getting the polio vaccine, and have given polio to others. And measles will be much worse as well. The reason is, that the normal way of catching these diseases is through your airway, so from the outside in. With the vaccine,...
  19. Vincent, the bloodwork shows that Tymber has a severe reaction to something. His intestines showed damage, and he had an amazing response to the gluten free diet. That translates into a firm diagnosis as far as I am concerned.
  20. Of course you should go, Ev! See if they will allow you to have a little fridge in your room, and if maybe you are able to have a microwave or even a small stove or hot plate. Then you are able to keep yourself and your daughter safe in case you can't find a safe restaurant. Maybe you can get a housekeeping suite/cottage or something like that. That would...
  21. Not true. Sometimes it is triggered after being fine initially, and sometimes it is there no matter what. Otherwise, how do you explain the fact that some babies seem to have celiac disease right from birth? Plus, I've always had it, and so do some of my siblings. Some of us have had trauma that could have triggered celiac disease, others never had anything...
  22. Hi Joyce, well, celiac disease is an autoimmune disease, and so is fibro. Undiagnosed celiac disease can lead to other autoimmune conditions, including fibro. So, it is entirely possible that your fibro may have been caused by celiac disease. All your symptoms are possible celiac disease symptoms. To find out, there are two ways of going about it....
  23. Heyho, you said that you 'stick reasonably well with the diet'. Does that mean that you're not 100% gluten free? Because if you're not, if you still consume small quantities of gluten, you are NOT gluten free, even if you don't have obvious symptoms. Your villi could be damaged without gastro symptoms. Why don't you try to actually completely, 100% avoid...
  24. Of course, none of my kids had the chicken pox vaccine. It took them an awful lot of exposures to get the chicken pox, when finally my youngest got it when she was nine. I wished they would have caught it sooner, as three of them were very sick (they were 19, 17 and 15 then). Surprisingly, the 20-year-old had a mild case, when a few months later her baby...
  25. I know I haven't been reading this thread so far, because in many forums I would be treated very badly for my stance against vaccines. But I just read this newest news from msn, and thought I'd share it on this thread, as it clearly demonstrates the uselessness of vaccines. Seven states dealing with mumps outbreak in U.S. CTV.ca News Staff Health...
