  1. I find that I get bloated by a lot of things other than gluten. You may need to do an elimination diet to find out if you have other intolerances besides celiac disease. It's not too likely they will be as numerous as mine, but most people with celiac disease have other intolerances as well. The most common ones seem to be dairy and nightshades (potatoes...
  2. Why are you having a colonoscopy? It is not a useful tool for diagnosing celiac disease, you would need an endoscopy for that, with biopsies taken from about six sites. Also, gluten free doesn't just mean wheat free, but you'd have to stop eating rye and barley as well, and yes, oats, and everything that is made with those grains.
  3. Has anybody looked at a possible soy intolerance in addition to gluten intolerance? Soy can also cause blunted villi in susceptible people. I think things like immunosuppresive drugs should be a last resort after testing for EVERYTHING else first. Also, are you absolutely sure he is gluten free? He may be one of those hypersensitive people, who react...
  4. Your doctors are ignorant. Being back on wheat for a week isn't going to assure positive bloodwork, and a biopsy will be just as useless, unless you eat gluten containing food for possibly up to a year or more! Unless you are willing to be sick for that long, don't bother. You know that gluten is your problem. We believe you, I hope your husband does....
  5. Well, you sound like me! I believe you're intolerant to lectins and foods high in salicylates as well. Follow the links in my signature, and you'll find lots of information. Foods high in lectins are: All grains (including rice and corn), eggs, all dairy, legumes (including soy and peanuts) and the nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant...
  6. Here is a picture on a site who sells all kinds of kid's stuff, including pre-school tempera paints. Open Original Shared Link Of course, that doesn't answer your question if it's gluten-free or not. I have no idea. I tried to find 'the' manufacturer, but there are many different kinds of makes of tempera paint. You need to find out what the school...
  7. I want to add that MSG is not a food, but an additive. And many people are intolerant to it, without realizing it. So, while it may be gluten free, it certainly isn't safe.
  8. Well, this is the problem with your doctor's thinking: If you have been off gluten for any length of time (that is more than a couple of weeks) your villi may have healed by now. For your blood test (and especially for a biopsy) to come out positive for celiac disease, you may have to be back on gluten for up to a year. So, eating gluten again is...
  9. Now that you qualified what you said in your first post, I understand you're not a hidden gluten celiac. But it was easy to misinterpret. Sorry about that. Still, I get the rows of bumps like you, and for years were paranoid about getting bitten by things I could never see! Like 'mosquito bites' in the winter, or 'flea bites' all in a row, which turned...
  10. I want to add that rice may or may not be safe. While most people tolerate it just fine, people like me react to it almost the same as to gluten. The same goes for the nightshades or dairy, or any grains at all. It's something you need to figure out by an elimination diet. The best way to do is go back to the very basics (meat, vegetables, fruit, even...
  11. Good grief, I must crave something nice enough to turn my brain off completely sometimes, I am intolerant to RICE! Anyway, I am glad you can have it at least.
  12. I agree with Patti. If you've been drinking beer, you have not been gluten free. I find that shampoos with wheat germ cause an itching rash on my scalp. Plus, even when gluten free, the deposits under your skin that cause DH take one to five years to clear, meaning, you can get DH for quite a while after going gluten free. And, by the way, those outbreaks...
  13. Thanks for actually finding the answer, instead of making assumptions, like I did this time! Maybe I can even have it (even though not to find something else I can't have in the ingredients list is a long shot).
  14. Elye, that is good to know about sepia as well! I should get my youngest daughter to take it next time she is having cramps and PMS and driving me nuts. Maybe it will help her (and me along with it ).
  15. I don't think so. The reason being, that rice dream isn't gluten free, so I assume that ice cream made with it is not gluten free, either. Sorry to disappoint you.
  16. I have been wondering that myself. But if it matters, we wouldn't be able to eat chicken any more, either, because they get fed grains, too. I believe ground beef is safe, I eat it all the time. Now, grass fed beef is healthier, as cows aren't meant to eat grains. But that is another matter.
  17. I'm sorry you feel so sick while being so careful most of the time! At least I know why I am sick today, I purposely glutened myself yesterday, to trigger DH (usually takes only a day or two for ugly, pus-filled blisters to appear) to get a positive biopsy from the dermatologist I am seeing tomorrow. Today I am feeling stupid for doing it. Anyway, I hope...

    ARCHIVED Hi

Hi Lani, and welcome to this board. Don't worry about capitalizing, you're a teenager, and it's easy enough to read. Spelling out the full words would be nice, as some people might not understand what you're saying. Yes, you can have symptoms not only for 72 hours after being glutened, but some people have symptoms for up to two weeks from just a little...
  19. Richard, do you know what they DO use? If it has corn starch, for instance, it would still make me sick.
  20. You don't have to subscribe. There is an option that says, you can read it for free for watching an ad. It's a pretty short Time magazine ad, and after it's done, there is a link for you to get in to read the full story. I read the whole thing (10 pages I think), and it's quite interesting.
  21. They may or may not have gluten, you never know. I only buy the self-sticking ones, but unfortunately, because they cost more, envelopes from any kind of business are still the kind you have to lick. Maybe we should let banks, book clubs and all the other ones with those envelopes know that it would help us, if they use self-sticking ones.
  22. I always wanted to adopt a couple of kids after having kids of my own, but then my health deteriorated so badly that it wasn't an option anymore. And now that I am starting to get better physically, my autism is getting worse, and emotionally I wouldn't be able to raise another kid. I can manage to have my grandchildren for a few days (and can babysit no...
  23. What a fabulous idea, that is very sweet of you. Even though I likely won't be able to use your recipes, I know a lot of people here will.
  24. Thanks, broncobux, I just printed out the order form, and will call to place an order tomorrow! I don't know if I can handle oats (probably not, since I can't handle other grains), but I will try them to see what happens.
  25. Have you looked at the possibility of other intolerances? Also, even though your doctor thinks that the amount of inflammation you have is no reason for concern, in my opinion, ANY amount of inflammation is a cause for concern and should be investigated, because it is caused by something. You need to find out what that something might be. It could very well...
