  1. The cocoapuffs have as an ingredient 'natural and artificial flavouring'. Isn't that a potential gluten source?
  2. Vincent, I can just see how frustrated you must be by now, and totally understand (I have hardly anything left to eat myself). I sometimes feel like 'this is ridiculous', and cheat (never on gluten or soy), but I always regret it. Because I end up in pain, or having rage attacks or get awfully depressed, depending what I had that I shouldn't. And it isn't...
  3. Check out these links for other food sources of potassium. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link There, that should keep you busy and out of trouble for a while!
  4. I can't eat bananas either. I had very low potassium levels last summer. My homeopath told me that watermelon contains a lot of potassium, in fact an awful lot more than bananas! So, I ate lots of watermelons last summer, and my potassium level went to normal by the fall.
  5. Vincent, I think a lot of the time intolerances can't be tested for. The only way to figure them out is by an elimination diet. And since you already know that dairy causes you problems, just don't have any! Just another inaccurate test, so what! You need to just believe your own common sense. You already knew the answer before the test, so ignore the test...
  6. I had a reply from Lindt (I contacted them in Germany, after all they make it there, so I won't post their exact reply, it is in German). They say if it says 'barley malt extract', that it has less than 20ppm of gluten, and is therefore considered gluten free in Europe, and is in line with the codex alimentarius. The flavour is pure vanilla. Which...
  7. Anemia is a typical celiac symptom, for some people it was the only obvious symptom they had before being diagnosed. If your bloodwork was positive (even though the values weren't very high), I would take that as a probably diagnosis of celiac. He didn't test you for everything he should have. And unless they took biopsies from at least six different areas...
  8. Tara, what happens with the apples is called 'oral allergy syndrome'. It means that you are at least mildly allergic to apples (at least at this point) and you need to stop eating them, or you'll make that allergy worse. I have that problem with quite a few foods (including bananas and cantaloupe). When reading your list of foods you are reacting to, I...
  9. I agree with Jake, it sounds like damage, just no atrophy YET. By now you might have a lot more damage, unless you have been gluten free in the meantime.
  10. Well, that is exactly how I felt all summer last summer, before figuring out I have celiac disease, I was soooooooooo sick! Maybe all the cheating is finally catching up with you? Do your utmost to be gluten free from this minute (no risks, like with the fries, you obviously got glutened), and hopefully you'll feel better soon. It seems that suddenly you...
  11. Try the exercises in this site, they are for seniors and people with disabilities, and easy but effective. Open Original Shared Link
  12. Vincent, I am sorry you have to give up something else you love, I sure know how that feels! If you hate soy milk, try almond milk. I loved it, until I found out I can't tolerate almonds, either. And really try making some smoothies, experiment with different berries (fresh or frozen, fresh strawberries are great)! My youngest daughter loves making...
  13. Ouch, I guess my experimenting with ice cream and cheese this past weekend might not be a good idea then, even if I didn't get terrible diarrhea. But I am feeling very tired and listless, and have a stomach ache.
  14. Lindt dark chocolate (I like 70% cocoa) doesn't have gluten. Most Lindt chocolates have soy in them, and the 70% says it may contain traces of peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, milk ingredients and soya lecithin (just CC, apparently). Maybe I need to call them to confirm that there is no barley in the chocolate. But since they list all ingredients, I don't think...
  15. Apparently soy can cause the same damage to the villi as gluten. I don't know about anything else. I can't tolerate eggs, either, they will give me a terrible stomach ache and diarrhea, as well as making me feel extremely exhausted all day next day. But I don't know if they damage the villi, too. I don't really think they do, but who knows?
  16. I've done the same thing as 'the method' before. I called our hotel in town (who have nice restaurants), and they told me that they would look after me. As soon as we were seated, they sent the assistant manager to look after me. He personally supervised the food being cooked, making sure a special corner of the kitchen was dedicated to just cooking for me...
  17. Radman, I am very glad you stayed, and you now feel comfortable here. It is a good place to come to, even though from time to time people annoy each other. But that is just the way it is everywhere, even amongst the best of friends. But at least it is not boring, like some message boards, where people are so concerned about being nice and proper, that...
  18. Hi Blondie, and welcome to this forum. I agree with the others, it sure looks like classic celiac disease to me. If your villi are damaged, they are on their way to being non-existent, don't let it come to that! Your testing shows that you can't tolerate wheat or gluten (which is not just in wheat, but rye and barley as well). Seeing the combination of wheat...
  19. I had read about these meds causing osteonecrosis, when just doing general medical research (a hobby of mine) a couple of years ago, and thought it looked very frightening. What you are saying is very interesting. I hadn't heard that different machines yield different results for bone density scans, I was assuming that there is a definite standard. I will...
  20. I don't want to scare you, but if you have Celiac disease and eat gluten, it can cause a miscarriage. Miscarriages are a recognized symptom of celiac disease. I know, I had eight, because I wasn't diagnosed until I was already 52. Your symptoms are very much like what I used to experience, especially when pregnant. My advice is to stop eating gluten immediately...
  21. As somebody else said, too much damage. If I would have been diagnosed at the age of 2 instead of 52, that would likely have been all. I did have symptoms then already, but unbelievably, it took 52 years of being ill, before I diagnosed MYSELF!
  22. I agree with all of you. How in the world is the gluten free diet going to hurt him, when the gluten is so obviously slowly killing him? But the suggestion to slowly cut out gluten may be a valid one. Lets say, over the course of a month or so. His doctor couldn't possibly find anything wrong with that, can he? That way it wouldn't be a 'shock' to his...
  23. I just want to say that I am so glad I checked out this thread back a little over a month ago. Somehow I was too rushed then to reply. But I had been having the same problem, with itching so bad, I thought I'd go insane. Since I've had my second daughter in 1981 by C-section, I've had recurrent bladder infections, and stress incontinence. So, I had been...
  24. Hi Betty, I know it can be so discouraging! After three months on the gluten free diet, and feeling so much better, the horrible fibromaylgia pains started coming back. I had been able to completely stop the powerful pain medications I was taking after only two weeks on the gluten free diet. Then I realized that all lectins were a problem and stopped eating...
  25. I cannot tolerate any lectins, which includes all grains, legumes, dairy, eggs or nightshades (see the link in my signature for more information). The symptoms for each lectin group (or even different foods in each group) vary, but they are all quite unpleasant. When I eat rice I will get a bad stomach ache within half an hour. By the next day I will have...
