  1. Mamaw, it is almost impossible to have too much vitamin D, especially if you don't take mega doses of it. Your doctor is ill informed. If he really believes that the 'daily recommended dosages' the government tells you are necessary for good health are all you need, than he ought to be shot (just kidding). The recommended dose for vitamin C is so low, that...
  2. Ah, now we're getting somewhere! That's exactly what brain fog is like. I've had many times (I remember even as a child) periods where I felt like I wasn't really there, that reality was unreal, like walking around in a dream. And sometimes I feel like everything is far away, and I hear people talking in a whisper, and it looks like I am seeing everything...
  3. I guess that one skin area just was wrong for a biopsy. But if one definitely is positive, then you obviously have it. They take biopsies from more than one area to examine, just to make sure. If both were negative, you could question if you actually have DH (and even then it could be a false negative). But if one is positive, that's enough for a diagnosis...
  4. I am sitting here totally cracking up. Your comments are just as funny as the song. I would love to hear it!
  5. Vincent, I ate Hershey's dark chocolate (not chocolate milk, but a chocolate bar) about three weeks ago, and got glutened symptoms within half an hour, and felt bad all day the next day (diarrhea, gas and feeling weird). I think it was the soy lecithin, but can't be sure.
  6. I have had EIGHT miscarriages due to Celiac disease. I don't wish the misery this caused me on anybody else. If I would have known about celiac then, I would never have dared to eat gluten during pregnancy (or any other time).
  7. Smunkeemom, have you considered that its possible to get 'glutened' symptoms from other sources? Both dairy and especially soy can cause the same symptoms as gluten (they certainly do for me). Soy, as I just found out, can even flatten the villi just like gluten! So, before you buy everything new (and you don't really need to when it comes to dishes, plastic...
  8. Mart, he is growing, he is gaining. Your son is only seven, give it some time. Is he still having stomach and bowel problems? It could be that he needs to be off dairy and soy as well (possibly other things too) before he'll be 100% better and really take off on his growth. Something to think about.
  9. Mamaw, even though the 'little white pills' all look the same, the ingredients aren't the same. There are hundreds of different homeopathic remedies. It's impossible for us to know exactly which one you have tried before that worked for you. For instance, I use one called Sepia, which works amazingly for a stomach ache after eating something wrong. But...
  10. Janine, I am confused. Normally a positive blood test means, without a shadow of a doubt, that you have Celiac disease. There can be false negative results, but never false positives. So why do you say that you think you got false positive results?
  11. Actually, from all the research I have done on soy over several years, it appears that UNFERMENTED soy is bad for everybody. Only fermented soy is safe to eat. Now, some people have an immediate reaction to it, which can be fatal, while for others it takes years for the effects to show (like thyroid problems, for instance). But ultimately, people will...
  12. All the answers are great. One addition: The green part on potatoes is actually TOXIC, so always, always completely cut it away, NEVER eat it! Also, if a potato sprouts, the part it grows out of is toxic as well. Cut off quite a chunk. Otherwise you are in for stomachaches or worse.
  13. Carrie, the only valid research I find in your links are the ones from sciencedirect, and they investigated fermented soy, which is actually healthy. All the rest are not to be trusted, as far as I am concerned. Especially not the ones from the vegetarian sites. Vegetarians don't WANT to believe that soy is not healthy, because they have been relying on soy...
  14. Fiddle-Faddle, I've had fibromyalgia pains (in my joints and muscles, lower back etc.) from the age of 5 at least (I think I was even younger). Now I know they were ALL caused by food intolerances, including gluten. And exercise (no matter which kind I tried) would inevitably put me into MORE pain, rather than help relieve it. Still, as a child I seriously...
  15. I was tested to have low vitamin D a couple of months ago as well. I don't know why you have to take those specific pills. I bought Carlson's cod liver oil (apparently the best on the market) which doesn't taste bad (they put lemon in it) and take two tablespoonfuls a day (twice the recommended normal dose). That gives me essential fatty acids as well as...
  16. When I put in the symptoms accompanying abdominal pain, the top one that came up was celiac disease. I thought that was pretty good. But when I put in the symptoms that come with diarrhea, crohn's disease came first, don't remember what was second, and celiac disease was third, because I didn't have 'weight loss'! So, that again was wrong on their...
  17. Kim, I am really sorry to hear about your osteoporosis. The good news is, that at your age your bones can recover somewhat. Jen, are you only taking calcium? In order to repair your bones you really should be taking magnesium and vitamin D as well. Has your vitamin D level been tested? Without vit. D, your body can't even use the calcium, and taking the...
  18. I just read (by following a link in another thread) that soy intolerance can cause the same symptoms as gluten intolerance (surprisingly, including flattening of the villi!). So, if you're eating soy and are intolerant to it, you can get 'glutening' symptoms, without eating gluten at all. Try eliminating soy from your diet (if you eat any) and see if it helps...
  19. Oh, yikes, I am reading only the first article now (the one from Nexusmagazine) and found this! They are saying that soy in susceptible people will also flatten the villi! And that a lot of people get the same reaction from soy and cows milk, or soy and gluten. Meaning, that celiacs who then use soy as a substitute for gluten containing flours might...
  20. Sara, IBS is really a junk diagnosis, when the doctor is clueless and wants to get you off his back. You're right to question it. You sure sound like you may have Celiac disease. Also, you might have developed other sensitivities as well. Try eliminating all dairy in addition to gluten and see how you feel. You want to make sure that your personal care...
  21. Vincent, what a sweet picture of Tymber! I've put in an order with my one daughter for a kid with red, curly hair. None of my kids has inherited my red hair or blue eyes. But my second daughter is due with her first baby in May, and her husband has red, curly hair (her hair is extremely curly, but very dark, like my husband's used to be). So, with her kids...
  22. Hey, anybody out there who knows of a mayonnaise without soy, gluten, dairy, egg, vinegar, spices and is made with cold pressed sunflower oil? Just kidding, but I REALLY miss mayonnaise! I've stopped eating tuna, as it doesn't seem worth eating without mayo. Oh well, such is life. But I am glad for you, Judy, it will be so nice for you to feel better...
  23. Ah, another link in the puzzle, you had your gallbladder out, too! It's incredible how many people with Celiac disease end up having to have their gallbladder out, me included (as well as my mother and sister and a ton of other people on this forum). Gallbladder disease appears to be a symptom of undiagnosed Celiac disease. And your surgeon is definitely...
  24. Your nutritionist says there are different degrees of Celiac disease? I think you not only need a new doctor, but a new nutritionist, too. Because you either have Celiac disease, or you don't. There are different degrees of damage, but not different degrees of celiac. If you have it, you need to be 100% gluten free, period. Even if you only had mild GI symptoms...
  25. Judy, I've been bullied all my life- by my mother, kids in school, coworkers, family. I am too gullible and honest (I can't lie), and can't read body language. I tend to take everything at face value.......I can't read between the lines (or spot sarcasm or lies). Its easy to 'put one over' on me as a result. It also makes me incapable of understanding the...
