  1. Yes, Patti is right. If you have DH, you have celiac disease, as it is caused ONLY by celiac disease. But not everybody with celiac disease has DH. If you have DH and have a positive skin biopsy, that automatically gives you a firm diagnosis of celiac disease, as it cannot be caused by anything else. The only valid treatment for DH is the gluten-free diet...
  2. Does she have a personal C D player or an mp3 player and headphones? That with some of her favourite music would be excellent. What might be really good (unless you've done that already) would be a letter, in which you tell her how much you love and miss her (you can never assume somebody knows that, and you can never say it often enough), and in which you...
  3. Okay, you're in Canada, too, I understand now. Good old 'free' Canadian medicine isn't so great, is it. I need to see an orthopedic surgeon for a bad foot. I got referred in May 2005, and my appointment is in August 2006! A wait of 1 1/2 years, it's outrageous. They don't care a hoot about people suffering (and often dying) as a result of those long waiting...
  4. Why is your GI waiting until September before doing the biopsy? In my opinion, he should be tested immediately. And then, even if it is negative (there are MANY false negatives in children under five, even if they have celiac disease), you should definitely try the gluten free diet (and that means to take him off rye, barley and oats in addition to wheat...
  5. My favourite foods used to be rye bread and potatoes (yikes, can't tolerate those at all). Throughout my five pregnancies I ate LOTS of bread, and I was awfully sick for the whole nine months with each of them. Still, surprisingly, they were all big, healthy babies. So, looking at that, I can't imagine that getting accidentally glutened once in a while...
  6. Hi Rachelle, and welcome to this board! I agree with everything that has been said previously. Unless you really need that official diagnosis, my advice is, to stop eating the gluten immediately. It's obviously making you very ill and unable to function. Therefore, the logical conclusion would be, that you can't tolerate it and shouldn't be eating it. You...
  7. I found that my fibromyalgia was caused by a combination of an intolerance to gluten, lectins and salicylates. When I firmly stay away from everything I am intolerant to, I feel so much better, it's like day and night. You may have other intolerances as well. Cutting out the foods that cause your pain, stiffness, brain fog and the other million symptoms...
  8. Well, look on the bright side...........if your biopsy is positive, that gives you a firm diagnosis of celiac disease, despite your inconclusive intestinal biopsy.
  9. Well, as far as I can tell, the ONLY way to prevent active disease, would be to be gluten free! With eating gluten, it is quite likely that they will get celiac disease at some point. Something very stressful or traumatic (accident, viral disease, death in the family......anything that would put a lot of stress on you psychologically/and or physically) would...
  10. Warrior Woman, just ignore those dumb doctors and do what you know is the right thing to do, which is being gluten free. Who cares what ANY of them say!
  11. Okay, so I gave in and did a little 'testing' yesterday..........okay, okay, I admit it, I wanted those rice crackers......but I can call it testing if I want, right? Anyway, it's been four months since I tested if rice was a possibility again. I can dream that I will be okay with it some day, can't I? So, I ate some rice crackers yesterday, and today...
  12. And he is wearing that green bakers hat, wearing a green apron...................wow, a lot of green! I haven't laughed so hard in a while. I think you better bake your own pizzas, though, for the most part.
  13. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link These should give you all the info (if you can read German, that is). I REALLY don't want to read through all those right now, but will eventually if you need me to.
  14. Hey, I have those vertical ridges, too! I wonder if they'll go away?
  15. OOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Well, 11 days might not be enough for anything to come up positive yet. But I remember going shopping especially with my last pregnancy, and going into the meat department, and having to leave immediately. My husband would have to go later and buy the meat. So, sure, it is entirely possible that you are pregnant. Time will tell!
  17. When I was tested for intolerances four years ago, one of the ones that showed up was coffee. It has never been a stimulant for me, it makes me incredibly sleepy instead (and sleeping pills will keep me up all night)!
  18. Of course they ALWAYS use dedicated ovens everywhere! Okay, you wanted a lie, here it is. I really doubt that most places would even think about that! You know, they'll only think about ingredients, how many non-celiacs have even heard of such a thing as cross contamination? Even people in our own families scoff at that! The only way to know is to ask...
  19. Hi Angel, and welcome to our board. Yes, I believe you've figured it out and have come to the right place. Your story sounds extremely familiar, many others here have had the very same problems..........and the same garbage from doctors. You sure sound like you have celiac disease. You need to get tested ASAP. But if you're satisfied with just a dietary...
  20. Hi Angela, I am glad you found us. You are doing a great job advocating for your daughter, and looking after her. Unfortunately, it will likely always be somewhat frustrating when going out, especially with a severe corn allergy on top of celiac disease. I have stopped going out completely, because I have many more intolerances and can simply not risk it...
  21. I think your best bet in this case would be to call the company and ask them.
  22. Evie, I am not sure what your exact question is. Are you asking if lamb is beef? If you are, then the answer is, "No, it is meat from a sheep, as in a little lamb" (and I think they call meat from a grown sheep lamb as well, I guess it sounds better). And a rotation diet is a good idea. I try rotating the few foods I have left as well. Too bad I can...
  23. I haven't tried Enterolab, but have only heard good things about it. After initially feeling a lot better, and all my pains going away, I started having a lot of pain again after being gluten free for four months. That is when my other intolerances showed up! Now that my villi had healed quite a bit, my intestines weren't just absorbing the things I could...
  24. Yep, low potassium is very common. I had very low potassium last summer. I fixed it by eating lots of watermelon (right, it has about three times as much potassium as bananas), because I couldn't tolerate supplements then. Potassium is one of the electrolytes, which get out of whack when you have diarrhea. And if you have chronic diarrhea, it would be...
  25. Actually, the truth is, that IBS doesn't lead to anything. When you get 'diagnosed' with IBS the doctor is just too lazy or ignorant to figure out what the problem really is. So, at some point, maybe you find out you have celiac disease, for instance. IBS didn't lead to celiac disease, it was celiac disease all along, misdiagnosed as IBS.
