I found that tomatoes caused most of my migraines. It could be other food intolerances as well.

ARCHIVED Coeliac Versus Other Diseases
Ursa Major replied to Kaycee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, when I started out, I thought it was a cinch, as I only cut out gluten at the beginning. That left me a whole lot of other things to eat. Now I seem to get more allergies every day, just had reactions to things today that I had been able to eat yesterday! I am getting very discouraged, and I'm not sure what to do, as I am heading towards a diet hardly... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Confused
Ursa Major replied to MikeM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mike, you click on the link in the bar on the top right corner of this page that shows how many messages you have (if any). That will bring you to your control panel. You click on 'compose new message' on the left. You put 'nini' (without the apostrophies) into the 'recipients name' window. Into the message title you put 'newbie survival kit', and into the... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Confused
Ursa Major replied to MikeM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, I just googled chekmed, and the Jackson Gastroenterology site is their site. And here is some info I copied there from their diet information, which is directly opposed to what you say your pamphlet says. Here is the link to the site: Open Original Shared Link Which is very accurate information, indeed. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Confused
Ursa Major replied to MikeM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Mike, and welcome to this board. I have no idea who compiled your list, but it seems that somebody was very misinformed (and passing on this misinformation, via doctors, no less! ). Buckwheat isn't even a grain, why would it be forbidden? And Amaranth, millet and quinoa are fine with a gluten-free diet as well. Wheat (all kinds, including spelt... -
Welcome to the celiac disease forum, Chloe! You're as pretty as your mother. I had braces from ages 43 to 46, and a retainer for another year after that. So, I can sympathize (and good for you, Carla, my braces were because of TMJ as well, and it helped tremendously). I agree, it will hurt for about a week after getting the braces, and then a couple...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Wear A Medical Bracelet?
Ursa Major replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, the people in Toronto are great. When I got my new bracelet a couple of months ago, they e-mailed me, and then called me on the phone to make sure they got it right. They wanted to make very sure that I would be safe in an emergency, and that all the angles were covered. They even left one line blank, in case I would need something else added at some... -
ARCHIVED Just Got Back Celiac Panel Results Back
Ursa Major replied to Cheli's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow, only four days? Here in Canada it takes four to six weeks! It seems when it comes to anything medical, they won't do anything fast and in a timely manner. -
ARCHIVED Just Got Back Celiac Panel Results Back
Ursa Major replied to Cheli's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually Cheli, that is the way all of us are! You either have it, or you don't. She doesn't have it bad, this is NORMAL for all of us! We ALL have to use gluten free shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, toothpaste, lipstick etc. None of us can have any food that has been touched by something containing gluten, it would make us sick. If your son really... -
ARCHIVED Just Got Back Celiac Panel Results Back
Ursa Major replied to Cheli's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Cheli, I agree with the others. Your doctor should have done five tests, not just two, and it's weird that you don't have at least those two back together. And constipation can be caused by celiac disease, not just diarrhea. So, your son's bowels being backed up could be a symptom of celiac disease. But it should be looked after for sure. What do you mean... -
DH can persist for one to two years after going completely gluten free, as the deposits under the skin which cause DH take that long to clear. Carla's theory seems to make sense. But maybe it's just 'his time' to have a bad outbreak. Take heart, it will get better sooner or later. Stick to a 100% gluten-free diet, and it will clear up eventually.

ARCHIVED Going On A Board Retreat
Ursa Major replied to olalisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Maybe you could suggest you help her with cooking your own food, since it's a pain otherwise? That way you can control how clean the cookware is (I actually bring my own stainless steel frying pan and little pot, and you may want to bring utensils as well). Does she totally understand about cross contamination? She may have the best of intentions, but... -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream
Ursa Major replied to olalisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, it wasn't the people who weren't getting better who attacked me, but the ones who told those poor people that low levels of gluten shouldn't harm them. They told those people not to listen to me, since I didn't know what I was talking about! I got so mad, I had to leave and never went back. -
ARCHIVED Answer To Inquiry From Enterolab
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Susie has been tested to be intolerant to all dairy, and it definitely makes her sick. It is a struggle to stop her from consuming dairy, but she is getting better at it. She can't stand the idea of giving up something else, though. I believe she has stopped cheating by eating ice cream, especially since I make sure she has fruit juice popsicles, freezies... -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream
Ursa Major replied to olalisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Peter, you're right, if I'd be in Germany, Rice Dream would be considered gluten free, even though it isn't. I quit frequenting a German celiac disease forum, because people there were so adamant that it isn't possible to be 100% gluten-free, and that small amounts didn't do any harm. And when people were asking for advice, saying they weren't getting... -
ARCHIVED Need Your Advice
Ursa Major replied to MattUK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Matt, I agree that you likely have celiac disease. And unfortunately, you may have osteoporosis already as well. To find out, you need to get a bone density scan performed. You should also have your ferretin (iron) levels tested, as you may be anemic (which could cause you to be so fatigued), as well as your levels of calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin... -
I don't believe that is true at all. DH comes and goes, and not necessarily in the same place, either. You get it in one place, after a while it heals, and it pops up somewhere else some other time. I just did a google search, and it seems that the opinions are divided on this.

ARCHIVED Got My Biopsy Results From Dermatologist
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Right, I saw pictures of DH on any place on the body, including the face, hands, feet, legs, stomach, chest........well, any place at all. The places that are the most COMMON sites for DH are the ones he claims are the ONLY ones. He is very ignorant and very behind the times in his knowledge of DH (he is probably about the same age as me). The problem... -
ARCHIVED Son Getting Leg Pain Again
Ursa Major replied to mart's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, in my opinion there is no such thing as growing pains, and this explanation was made up by doctors so they don't have to figure out what is really wrong. When our legs hurt, we don't declare it to be growing pains. So, why will they say it when kid's legs hurt? They absolutely cannot prove this theory! -
ARCHIVED Are These Symptoms ?
Ursa Major replied to manja's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, you may be on to something. She could also be intolerant to dairy. That she loves milk so much is a dead giveaway, usually people LOVE whatever they are most allergic to. Try cutting out dairy and see if that makes a difference. The best thing would be to try one thing at a time, otherwise you won't know what worked. So, maybe dairy first, and gluten... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Wear A Medical Bracelet?
Ursa Major replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wear one. But I have potentially life threatening issues, besides celiac disease as well. Mine says: Asthma, celiac disease; allergies: Theo-Dur, morphine, Aspirin. An asthma attack could kill me, and the asthma medication Theo-Dur (which doctors are fond of using in the hospital in an asthma emergency) could potentially kill me as well. I am severely... -
ARCHIVED Answer To Inquiry From Enterolab
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks, girls. Yes, that brat is lovely, no doubt. Just today she was too sick to go to school again. When I ask her what she ate yesterday, she rolls her eyes and declares that I am stupid to think everything is food related, and that there is nothing wrong with her. According to her, her stomach aches, sore throat, feeling dizzy, tired and just generally... -

ARCHIVED Answer To Inquiry From Enterolab
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I HAVE told her that, but being a typical teenager, who is determined not to give up bread, cookies etc., and the doctor claiming she definitely doesn't have celiac disease, she refuses to listen to me. I guess she'll have to get really sick first. I hate that idea, obviously. But my husband wants to believe the doctor, and I have my doubts that he'll consider... -
Oh, leg and joint pains are a dead giveaway for other intolerances! My joint and back pains were caused by lectins (of which gluten is one, dairy another), and my muscle pains (very bad in my legs especially) by salicylates. Check the links in my signature for more info, if you're interested.
