  1. Actually, celiac disease can cause hives, it's one of the lesser known and more rare symptoms. It is definitely one of my symptoms when glutened. Also, improvement in behaviour when gluten-free is typical as well for celiac disease, especially in children. Not all people have obvious GI symptoms. While hives, occasional diarrhea and behaviour problems...
  2. Vincent, I don't have dyslexia (quite the opposite), but I have dyscalculia instead (like dyslexia, but with numbers, directions, math, time, money instead). I am not sure what is more difficult to compensate for. If it is possible to get lost, I will do it! Fortunately, a strategy I developed a few years ago worked at least for getting lost. The night before...
  3. That's weird, something you may want to bring up with your doctor maybe?
  4. That's interesting! Not all women with AS are good with technology, some are gifted in languages instead (I am both, but I am not even your 'average' Aspie, either). You might want to get tested, you may have AS.
  5. Vincent, it is SPOKEN language they're talking about. Plus, you might have HFA (high functioning autism), which goes along with late speech development. My older brother didn't speak until the age of three, but by the time he was six and I was five, his speech was the same as mine, and still is. And dyslexia is VERY common in people with AS (more common...
  6. Sorry, Jaime, I didn't mean to make you feel bad, I apologize. But really, it isn't even recommended to start a baby on solids before seven to eight months, why start with something that has been shown to cause a LOT of allergies, even if you don't consider celiac disease? Wheat must be one of the most allergenic foods in the world. Unfortunately,...
  7. Well, here now we have a perfectly rounded, 100% normal person (whatever normal means). Amazing! I think an AQ of 9 makes you a VERY social person (the opposite of me).
  8. I totally agree with Nini on this one. What have you got to lose by trying the diet with her? Before you put her through so many tests, it wouldn't hurt to try the diet for a month to see what will happen. ALL her symptoms could be caused by celiac disease. If nothing changes in a month, you can still do all the other tests.
  9. I disagree with giving the baby gluten no later than nine months, but as early as six months. Where did he get those numbers? That sounds like a terrible idea to me. Two years or later would be more reasonable as far as I am concerned (but no earlier than 12 months). Four out of my five children didn't even get solids until they were eight months old,...
  10. That's fabulous, I am so happy for you! And I agree with Nini, too, don't EVER do a gluten challenge with her, which will set her back and make her ill again, and who needs it?
  11. Floating stools are caused by your bowels not absorbing fat, gas has nothing to do with it. They are also called 'fatty stools' for that very reason.
  12. Yikes, Vincent, are you sure you don't have AS? You may want to find an Asperger Specialist, who deals with adults (and there aren't many, unfortunately), to be tested. And no, you obviously aren't an uncaring psycho (and neither am I), we're just different and don't fit the norm (which appears to be a crime these days it almost seems). Kabowman, you...
  13. Well, this is a hard one. If stools are actually formed, they tend to float when things get pretty bad. But not always. Of course, with diarrhea, you get some stuff floating, and some not, and it's liquid anyway, so how do you determine if it's floating or not? On the other hand, if you are constipated (which is also a celiac disease symptom, and I used...
  14. Christine, have you eliminated all possibility of other intolerances besides gluten? Have you ever been tested for Asperger Syndrome? Before trying any stimulants, you REALLY should rule out any known causes of those problems first. Meds are only the last resort. Also, maybe you might want to try counselling. IF you have AS (which is possible, most adults...
  15. I just want to point out that soy can actually destroy the villi in much the same way as gluten in susceptible individuals. I don't think dairy does, though.
  16. Phew, I am glad we can manage to really, basically agree after all. I'd have hated to have made an enemy here, because I like and respect you. I know I can come on pretty strong at times, as I tend to get very passionate on certain things as well. I am sorry I offended you at the start of this thread, it certainly wasn't intentional.
  17. Vincent, guess what, I am PART of the disabled community! And yes, I have been treated badly and abused my whole life because of Asperger Syndrome and Tourette Syndrome. This is unfortunately not an uncommon scenario, and I agree, it is an atrocity, it makes me sick to think of it. My sorry excuse of a husband has suggested I need to have demons...
  18. Wow, how very amazingly thoughtful! I am glad you had such a good time, and without getting glutened! It is good to know that there are some fabulous people out there who will do their utmost to make us comfortable. I have a friend like that, and I love her for her thoughtfulness.
  19. Here are two links to check out. The second one is more informative (found it after posting the other one). Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  20. Vincent, what have I done to you to be attacked? I just posted an article, that I thought was of interest to people here. Especially because too many kids will be labelled ADHD with problems caused by celiac disease. It wasn't a personal attack on anybody, but information to read or not read, at your leisure. I wasn't condemning anybody. I believe in informed...
  21. Actually, I've wondered the same thing, as I have even more intolerances than you. But yes, I definitely have celiac disease as well as those other intolerances. I challenged it a few times by eating gluten, and the result wasn't pretty, believe me. Of course, I've had no testing at all (other than a probably botched skin biopsy for DH, and I'll be getting...
  22. I use baking soda, works great without worries. Also, check out these vitamins (they have hypoallergenic ones). Open Original Shared Link Go to 'products', to 'multivitamins', to 'super-Nu-thera', to the hypoallergenic link.
  23. Hi Lane, and welcome to this board. Yes, you sound very much like you may have celiac disease. But it is unwise to go gluten free before testing for celiac disease. It won't matter for a wheat allergy test. Now, you may get a negative on the allergy test, because celiac disease is not an allergy and the gluten containing grains will usually not show up on...
  24. SuperBeck, when you were still on gluten, you didn't realize that you can't tolerate dairy, because it didn't cause a reaction as bad as the gluten. Now that the gluten has cleared out of your body, your body has realized that it doesn't like dairy either. Which is actually fairly common for celiac disease. It isn't possible to get a negative reaction...
  25. Jerry, I did a cruise in January, being on a diet free of gluten, lectins, starches and foods high in salicylates. Now, there's a challenge! Just gluten-free is a piece of cake in comparison. By being in contact with them beforehand, and working closely with the maitre'd and the chefs while there, it was possible. There was only one accident on the last day...
