I had the same problem, until I resized my picture myself to the required size (I think it was max. 50 kb, and 100 x 100 pixels, but I'm not 100% sure), and then it worked fine.

I have awful reactions to bandaids and most skin tapes as well, which take sometimes YEARS to heal! When I had my hysterectomy five years ago, things went very wrong (my bladder tore badly, due to being very stuck to the uterus because of three c-sections), and the surgery went from 45 minutes to three hours. Even though I had told them (the surgeon, the...

ARCHIVED Help! Need Positive Blood Work For Doctors Note
Ursa Major replied to tiffjake's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Um, Tiffany, I hate to tell you this, but you need to eat gluten for several MONTHS in order to maybe get a positive test result. So, don't bother eating gluten now, you'll just get sick for no reason. There is no point in getting tested this week, cancel if you still can. Find a doctor who will give the the note based on your positive enterolab tests... -
ARCHIVED Hives Angioedema Liver And Celiac
Ursa Major replied to hiveman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ugh, those dumb doctors! Just to make sure, of course you aren't just avoiding wheat, right? Have you considered cross contamination, personal care products, vitamins and medications as potential sources of gluten? Have you replaced your toaster (you can't possibly get all the crumbs out), your plastic strainer, wooden cooking spoons, wooden cutting... -
ARCHIVED Splenda
Ursa Major replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Splenda is made by taking a sugar molecule and replacing three of its atoms with chlorine atoms! How could that be safe? Here is some info that should scare you (Splenda is no safer than aspartame/equal, meaning pretty deadly): Open Original Shared Link I can find better ways of killing myself if I choose to -
ARCHIVED My Lips Are So Dry
Ursa Major replied to melhopkins02's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Exactly what I was going to say. I want to qualify that saturated fats are very important for our bodies (contrary to popular opinion), and also essential fatty acids (especially omega 3s) are needed (preferably from an animal source, like fish oil, flax-seed oil is not nearly as good). -
It is likely the skin that is the culprit here. I am able to eat PEELED white potatoes occasionally, the skin contains high levels of salicylates (and who knows what else that could be causing a reaction in susceptible individuals). Also, especially baked potatoes, are so starchy, that the body converts them instantly to sugar (faster than white flour...

ARCHIVED She Just Does Not Want To Eat ...
Ursa Major replied to manja's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Manja, this is my take on this: Anna can tell that you're very anxious about her eating, and may be playing a power game. As long as you coax her, feed her etc., she is in charge! She WON'T starve if you stop doing that. Don't feed her, just put the food in front of her, and remove it when the family is done eating. She might have to actually get hungry... -
Well, somehow I seemed to have 'lucked out' on how to identify the problem foods. The gluten was the easy and obvious one. When I was doing celiac disease research, I stumbled upon this amazing board. Two weeks after starting to read here, somebody posted the link to the lectin website, and when reading there, realized that I had always reacted to ALL the...

As Tiffany and Rachel already stated, your daughter absolutely needs to be on the gluten-free diet. Dapsone just helps with the symptoms (the rash), but does nothing to fix the cause (not being able to digest gluten). It is a very powerful medication, that is extremely hard on the liver, and may eventually destroy the liver. Mind you, it may take up to...

ARCHIVED 5 Months, 20% Improvement
Ursa Major replied to arial12bold's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think the ingredients on personal care products are usually pretty obvious, like barley extract, wheat germ oil or oat bran. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong! The brand I use is Dove shampoo and conditioner, because it doesn't have gluten or anything else I am intolerant to. And I use Ivory soap, for the same reason. But there are other brands that... -
ARCHIVED 5 Months, 20% Improvement
Ursa Major replied to arial12bold's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, and welcome to this board. Maybe you have intolerances other than gluten and dairy? Enterolab can't confirm celiac disease, only gluten intolerance. Meaning, that you may have celiac disease, but are at least gluten intolerant. It doesn't really matter, though, because the treatment is obviously the same. And yes, since you have two gluten intolerance... -
You know, with me it was starches especially that kept me feeling bad. But it seems that all you're eating now are starches! That is a terrible idea and very unhealthy. How are you supposed to get any vitamins and protein that way? Have you tried eating only meat and well cooked vegetables? That is what I did at first, and those things were all I could...

ARCHIVED 'back Muscle Spams'
Ursa Major replied to Ashley's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ashley, I think going to a chiropractor would be an excellent idea as well. It's amazing the things they can fix with a simple adjustment, that leave MDs just stumped. Personally, when I have any problems, my chiro is the first person I consult (I consider him my primary caregiver, I wouldn't know what to do without him, most doctors are so clueless). -
Kris, underneath each post/reply is a bar with different buttons. The first one on the left says either 'on' or 'off', indicating if the person is online or not. The second one is 'card', and the third one is 'PM'. If you go to Lorka's last reply, just click on the PM button, and a new window will come up to PM Lorka. It is just like posting, but only she...

ARCHIVED Facial Swelling
Ursa Major replied to GlutenWrangler's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was swollen everywhere, including my face. And yes, within days on the gluten-free diet, people were commenting on my thinner face, asking if I had lost weight. -
ARCHIVED New Therapy May Mean Less Dietary Restrictions For Celiac Sufferers
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Publications & Publicity
Bernice, thanks for picking up on this and posting it, but somebody else was faster . Here's the link to that post: Open Original Shared Link -
Taz, it seems to me that Carla meant, that she forgot about the sea bands being a GOOD idea! While they don't seem to work for everybody, they are a life saver for me. Because I don't just get car sick, but everything-that-moves sick. They are the only thing that works for me (the pills pretty much put me out of my misery, though, I sleep the whole ride,...

That looks interesting. Of course, this far they haven't tried it in REAL stomachs with REAL patients, only in the lab under conditions that sort of mimic the stomach and duodenum. We'll see if it still works when they test it on people. It would be nice to have this enzyme when going out, just in case (but I'd still not purposely eat gluten).

Dan, I am reading a book called 'The whole Soy story', and apparently, soy protein will turn to glutamate (or something like that, I am too lazy right now to go and check). Anyway, if you use soy protein, you get glutamate, that I remember, because I was quite flabberghasted by that. I've given up finding protein bars. You may want to buy a jerky gun and...

ARCHIVED Diagnosis, Diet, Symptoms Etc
Ursa Major replied to AndreaB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am another one who would say, 'All of the symptoms, plus more', but chose tummy troubles, since I had those for many, many years. But I've had backaches and joint and muscle pains from the age of three. Chelsea, I forgot about your gluten challenge until I saw your response. It may be responsible for your iron deficiency. -
ARCHIVED A Kinder, Gentler Iron Supplement?
Ursa Major replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Chelsea, you may not be feeling too bad yet, because after your iron has plummeted, your hemoglobin takes a while to come down to dangerous levels. Apparently it hasn't yet, but it will! I was unable to take enough iron supplements to keep my iron levels at an acceptable level (eventually, I was in chronic stomach pain so bad, I couldn't walk upright... -
ARCHIVED A Kinder, Gentler Iron Supplement?
Ursa Major replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Eating spinach won't help, as it contains high levels of oxalic acid, which counteracts iron absorption. Meaning, it is useless for getting iron. Red meat is still the best source of iron from food. Chelsea, your levels are alarmingly low, and something a lot more radical needs to be done than just iron supplementation. When my levels were that bad... -
ARCHIVED Newly Gluten Free With ?'s
Ursa Major replied to AshleyE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Ashley, and welcome to this board. I know that many people say that you don't get reactions from lotions and shampoos unless you ingest them. But I have the same problem as you, if I use soap, lotion, shampoo etc. with wheat germ, I will have a skin reaction similar to yours, plus insane itching, without getting any gastrointestinal symptoms at the same... -
ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
Ursa Major replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Carla, I plan on seeing my homeopath, who can figure it out for me. She told me after seeing her last summer, that those cleanses you buy in the health food store are way too harsh for many people. She seemed to know what she was talking about (even though she obviously doesn't know everything, as she didn't clue into celiac disease, I figured it out myself...
