  1. I agree with Pauliina and Nikki. It is very likely that you have celiac disease. No, I don't believe that lactose intolerance could have landed you in the hospital, that is highly unlikely! But you are probably dairy intolerant at least for a while, until your villi heal. So, stick with the gluten-free diet, and eliminate dairy as well. And while you...
  2. What is grumbling appendix? I've never heard of that. But yes, it may be your appendix. You may want to see your doctor to have it checked out.
  3. Usually doctors won't call to give you any results, unless they consider it a case of life or death. And unfortunately, they very rarely consider celiac disease a case of life or death, even though they are wrong. Yes, I believe your doctor is waiting to give you the results at your follow-up appointment. That is what doctors usually do (which is a bummer...
  4. I don't know if SSRI's actually give any benefit when it comes to candida. But I wouldn't recommend taking Paxil to combat candida, just because it might have an antifungal ingredient! Antidepressants are addictive and have lots of side effects. There are plenty of antifungals out there that you can safely use. Garlic is one of them. Why don't you...
  5. I haven't got a clue who ever came up with the idea of carb loading and that it improves performance. It is a complete myth. It has long been proven that eating lots of carbs will make you sluggish and tired! It makes a lot more sense to load up on protein and fat, because those are the main muscle fuels. So, instead of eating carbs the night before,...
  6. Antidepressants often cause the very problems they are supposed to treat. Her confusion could be caused by the medications. You might want to try slowly weaning her off those. Also, it might be a good idea to give her probiotics to fix the bacteria in her gut. Plus, I second the opinion of stopping all sugars, as well as all processed foods (which also...
  7. What do you expect the doctor to do? You know gluten is a problem, and you have been gluten-free for quite a while. Do you need a doctor to tell you what you already know? If he says you are wrong and you should start eating wheat again, will you do it? If you are determined to stay on the gluten-free diet, then it shouldn't matter what any doctor says...
  8. Actually, in spring there is a lot of mold in the air, due to moisture, rotting leaves, damp earth etc. Plus pollen, of course. I usually don't feel well in spring due to allergies. And even worse when it gets hot if it is humid, because there is mold in humid air, too.
  9. How would your doctors know if you don't have malabsorption? With some of those numbers (like calcium) your body will just get it wherever it can, like taking it out of the bones, so it looks fine in the blood, but really isn't. And also, their 'normal' ranges are crap for the most part. They claimed that having a ferritin count of 20 was fine, when I...
  10. Hi Klaus, and welcome to these boards. I believe that your low energy on some days might be because your body is using all the available energy to heal the accumulated damage. It can take months to really have energy again. You might have DH outbreaks for up to two years. It could take that long for all the gliadin deposits to be gone from your skin. But...
  11. I did a Google search, and this site explains it. Open Original Shared Link Mind you, personally I think the best use of it is to find out about intolerances (you'll find that almost at the very end of the long explanation of what it can do). I wouldn't really trust it with anything else. But that is me. My oldest daughter and her family (then three...
  12. Well, the easiest and safest way to start is to just eat naturally gluten-free foods. Like potatoes, rice, meat, fish, eggs, vegetables and fruit. If you prepare them yourself you won't have to worry about what might be in them. A lot of dieticians know less than you about eating gluten-free, and might even give you wrong advice. Some might be good, but...
  13. Roxie, nightshade foods contain oxalates, which can make arthritis much worse. In addition they are also high in lectins and salicylates, which are also not great for arthritis! I know that I have beginning arthritis in one vertebra in my back. It is not bothering me unless I eat either rice, egg or potatoes (gluten too, but I wouldn't dare eat it, anyway...
  14. Oh, Stacie I feel for you! None of my relatives would DARE do that to me! Now I totally understand where you are coming from. See if you can find a naturopatic doctor who has a Vega machine for intolerance testing. Unfortunately, it won't find everything. When I was tested six years ago, they found I was intolerant to all nightshade foods, lactose, MSG...
  15. It sounds like you are experiencing neurological symptoms from being glutened. I certainly get problems like that from gluten!
  16. David, usually they only test for the genes that are officially recognized in the US as celiac disease genes. But in reality, there are more genes than that that predispose to celiac disease, as scientists have acknowledged that they haven't figured it all out yet. Plus, there are quite a few people who have full-blown celiac disease without having those...
  17. Stacie, I knew from reactions my youngest daughter had as a young child, that she couldn't tolerate dairy (eczema, too much mucus, ear infections). So I (using common sense - or maybe not so common?) just simply stopped giving her dairy. As simple as that. Why do you need to have an allergy/intolerance officially confirmed? From what you are saying, those...
  18. If you are wondering, you need to do an experiment. Don't eat any tomatoes, peppers or eggplant for a couple of weeks. None at all. Then eat lots of tomatoes over the course of one or two days and wait to see what happens. You may not get any gastrointestinal problems at all. Tomatoes give me migraines. When I was still eating tomatoes all summer, I'd...
  19. I know it is a shock. But try to think positive, because now you are going to get your health back! Have you started the gluten-free diet already?
  20. Everybody is different. It may take up to two weeks for symptoms to go away. But it might just take a couple of days. One glutening will not cause your villi to be gone, but will likely cause some inflammation. I believe that can take up to a month to heal.
  21. Mairen, you are telling us that without gluten a lot of symptoms disappeared. Those are pretty major problems, as far as I am concerned. I realize he hasn't gained much weight. But he grew. Personally, it sounds like he responded well to the diet. His villi may have been in pretty bad shape, and you are expecting too much too soon. First the villi...
  22. Well, you could always use them for scrambled eggs. But in German pudding recipes they are used as a thickener. But here is a fabulous lemon/lime mousse recipe that uses egg yolks. I've made this a couple of times for company, and they loved it!
  23. Another ignorant doctor (sigh). People with celiac disease need to be completely gluten-free, as has been said already, a low gluten diet is just as damaging as eating lots of gluten to somebody with celiac disease. Your daughter needs to be 100% gluten-free. Next time send a gluten-free cupcake with her when she goes to a birthday party!
  24. My suggestion is, to send them an e-mail. Since they hand-make the pills, they can choose what goes into them. So, they might accommodate you and make it without the walnut hulls if you ask them to. I got an e-mail last week, I think it was Wednesday, letting me know they sent my Humaworm. We'll see how long it takes to get here.
  25. Yes, I am very allergic to regular bandaids. When blood is drawn I either try to remember to bring a bandaid for sensitive skin, or I let them only use paper tape over a cotton ball. The only place I can tolerate normal bandaids is on my fingers, I guess because they have tougher skin. Everywhere else bandaids will cause psoriasis that sometimes takes...
