  1. I am living almost exclusively on vegetables and meat, the only fruit I can tolerate is peeled pears, and the occasional peeled golden delicious apple, a banana once a week. I've been living like that for two and a half years now, and it is fine. Just make sure to get enough fat. And I mean saturated fat, it is actually essential to life. Non-hydrogenated...
  2. It could well be caused by cc (and being glutened CAN cause reflux, which this could be). You could also be intolerant to other foods, like nightshade vegetables. But since you have had this problem only since you moved in with your mother, my guess is that you are being glutened in your mother's house. And by the way, IBS is bunch of symptoms, not...
  3. I got the e-mail yesterday, saying that they have shipped it. Since I am in Canada it could take up to three weeks for me to get it (when the slow US mail joins up with the snail paced Canadian mail, it REALLY slows down!). Hopefully it won't take that long. Thanks for your kind words, everybody, it helps when I know people care. This far, the antibiotics...
  4. Hi Glenda, and welcome to these boards. Yes, it is very normal and recommended by celiac disease specialists to get the whole immediate family tested if somebody in the family tests positive for celiac disease, because it is genetic. So, your doctor is very wrong on this. You have lots of symptoms that point to celiac disease. And since it runs in the...
  5. Happy anniversary! I am glad you are so much better.
  6. Putting your iron skillets in the oven will NOT get rid of gluten. Gluten isn't a living organism you can kill with heat. You need to scrub it off. Stainless steel is okay if you scrub it to a shine. The same goes for glass. Anything that has tight corners isn't safe, because you can't get in there and scrub those. Gluten is very, very sticky and hard...
  7. Yeah, my dentist suggested that the antibiotics might help my stomach. We'll see. I just called the oral surgeon and was told that May 7th is only a consultation! Meaning that it will likely be over a month before the actual root canal will be done. But the receptionist said that the antibiotics should work within 48 hours and the pain should subside...
  8. I went to Ottawa to visit my daughter and her family, and got sick the day after I got there (meaning that I was already infected). A few days after I got sick, my daughter and four of the five grandchildren got the stomach flu (and none of them were sick for more than two days). So, it must have been just the stomach flu, if I gave it to my daughter and...
  9. Well, I've had a violent case of the stomach flu a little over three weeks ago. I have still not recovered, I still have explosive, watery D several times a day, and get terrible stomach aches after every food intake, no matter what I eat. These past few days I have also had unbearable tooth aches from the last molar, left side on the bottom. Plus my glands...
  10. Oh, you made me laugh so hard, which is what I needed today, I've had a lousy three weeks. Yes, some things will be changed to 'lame advertisement', because some companies have tried to spam our boards. That is why people put A.L.C.A.T, with dots between, to prevent that. Anyway, I totally agree with everybody else. You know that gluten makes you terribly...
  11. Hi Johanna, I am glad you have decided to finally let us know you are around! I am sure we can all help each other. Since you realize that there must be other gluten intolerant people around, why don't you put an add in your local paper, asking if there is an interest in forming a support group? Do you have a health food store nearby? You could ask them...
  12. I say the biopsy results are definitely enough to do the gluten-free diet. If you improve on the diet, the biopsy results together with the positive diet response would be enough to officially diagnose you with celiac disease. So, it would be good if you start with the gluten-free diet immediately!
  13. Yes, absolutely!
  14. I am afraid she has not been tested for celiac disease at all, none of those are celiac disease tests! If you want her tested for celiac disease, she will need to get those specific tests. Somebody else will give you the exact list of tests, I am not sure what they are (there are five of them).
  15. Since it is very likely that you will have a negative biopsy anyway after being gluten-free for two months, you might as well quit. And yes, you should call the GI and tell him that you aren't able to keep eating gluten, because it is making you too sick. Some GIs will give you a diagnosis based on what the gluten challenge did to you, especially because...
  16. If it was me who did that, I would be able to return them to the supermarket in town, and exchange them for the ones I wanted. Why don't you go back and explain to them why you can't use those, and ask if you can return them? If they are unopened, I don't see why that won't be possible.
  17. There is a good possibility that she gets glutened in your house. It is also possible that she cheats, since it is easy to get her hands on gluten food, if it is in the house! It would be so much better if you made your house gluten-free. Your son might need to be dairy and soy free before he will improve (if he eats/drinks those). Also, is your daughter...
  18. My husband's aunt died last September. Hundreds of people came to the funeral, including the very large family and many friends. Afterwards there was a buffet lunch. Her daughter-in-law organized it. Because my daughter and her five kids and I are gluten intolerant, plus one cousin with celiac disease, who appears to be severely allergic to wheat in addition...
  19. Because most hospital nutritionists are clueless about celiac disease, the risk of cross contamination is very high. You might want to consider getting your meals brought to you by family.
  20. Where do you get the soil? Even though it sounds like a good idea in principle, in reality it sounds like a prescription for getting parasites to me. Which I wouldn't be eager to do. In fact, I am going to do a parasite cleanse soon, which would also get rid of candida.
  21. What I am saying is, that usually the celiac disease tests in babies and toddlers will only be positive if a child is near death. That is a fact. Since your son isn't so ill that you fear losing him yet, his tests will very likely come back negative.
  22. Really, you have figured out some of your allergens already. Rice, corn and potatoes are obvious culprits. You need to do an elimination diet to figure it all out. It sounds to me like you may have a lectin intolerance. Here is a link to read more about it. Open Original Shared Link You might also have adrenal fatigue, and the drop in blood pressure...
  23. Mucosal abnormalities and inflammation and redness suggests to me that you have celiac disease, even if the villi aren't destroyed yet. Many people get false negatives on the blood test. Your bowels are possibly not in bad enough shape yet to have antibodies in your blood stream. But it is probably only a matter of time (and getting much sicker) before...
  24. Even though avoiding all processed foods allows you the luxury of not having to read labels, and you can be sure you are safe, that is not really necessary. So, if you were gluten-free and eating some processed foods (making sure there was no gluten in them), then you would have been doing fine, hence no symptoms. If you know what to look for in labels...
  25. Bloating is an extremely common symptom of celiac disease, I was terribly bloated before starting the gluten-free diet. I don't have a clue if your medication has gluten. But if you feel you are addicted to it, you need to get off it slowly. Buy a pill cutter, and reduce by 1/4 pill every few days. That way you avoid withdrawal symptoms.
