  1. My daughter's antigliadin was only 12, but her malabsorption score was 816, which is fairly high. Her blood work was negative, but many symptoms resolved after taking her off gluten (or I should say after she finally cooperated, now that I had proof that there was a problem - she is 16).
  2. I am glad you had a good trip without getting glutened. It sounds like you had fun.
  3. As kbtoyssni already mentioned, IBS can have more than one cause. But IBS in itself is not a valid diagnosis, because an irritable bowel is a symptom, not a disease in itself. Any doctor who diagnoses people with IBS is either too ignorant to know better, or too lazy to figure out what the cause is, or both. Mind you, a great many people on this site were...
  4. Most people with celiac disease are NOT allergic to wheat. Celiac disease is not an allergy, but rather an autoimmune disease. The reaction to gluten is an autoimmune reaction, not an allergic one. Hence, your blood test shows you aren't allergic to gluten, and yet you are extremely intolerant to it. Your friend was right that you don't outgrow celiac...
  5. Now THAT is funny! Personally, I think most (if not all) of those faith healers are 'fake healers'. Yes, I believe that God will heal people these days. But not in public displays Benny Hinn style.
  6. Yes, Enterolab is accurate even for young children, up to a year after eliminating gluten. I am glad you will not put her back on gluten for anybody! Your son is a wise young man.
  7. It sounds like she is addicted to gluten, and if she can't have it, carbs and sugars. Maybe she has a candida infection, too? Plus, kids her age are often extremely picky to begin with and will only eat certain things. She will outgrow that. Don't give her the foods she wants, and don't make a big deal out of you wanting her to eat others. Serve...
  8. Good for you to going gluten-free as soon as you've had the endoscopy. I bet you'll start to feel and look better very quickly.
  9. Stacie, you are not going to feed this child gluten again, ever, right? The problem is, that no matter where you go, they will want you to do that. Nobody in the medical profession seems to see that it is TORTURE to feed a child gluten who is obviously gluten intolerant! Would those doctors eat something that they know makes them very ill? I doubt it....
  10. Having taken vitamins with gluten means, that until you discovered that, you never were really gluten-free at all! No wonder that it is taking so long for your hair to grow back. Hopefully it will happen soon. Meline, yes, your front teeth turning brown could be caused by gluten. But I am not sure if it goes away by itself on a gluten-free diet. Your dentist...
  11. First of all, consuming dairy that is homogenized and/or pasteurized is of no benefit to anybody. You can't even absorb the calcium from milk, since the enzyme that allows us to do that is killed with pasteurization. And secondly, even though it is possible that you would see some benefit from the gluten-free diet without taking dairy out of your diet...
  12. It sounds like your son needs to take cod liver oil. It will supply him with easy to digest vitamin D as well as essential fatty acids and vitamin A. The Carlson brand is best, and doesn't taste bad. Lack of vitamin D is very serious. And when you consider that calcium and magnesium can't be absorbed by the body without vitamin D, you get into even bigger...
  13. Yes, I used to have nightmares all my life, for 50 years! There have been times when I would have ten nightmares a night, and be afraid to even go to bed. They were evil, and I woke up terrified, usually as something or somebody was killing me. They stopped when I eliminated gluten. Now I only get nightmares after I have been glutened. My youngest daughter...
  14. Very cute, it sure made me laugh. I love the line about being buried in a lightly greased coffin.
  15. Yes, you do. You have to look at it the same as you would at gluten. You wouldn't ask the same kind of question if it was gluten you were talking about. As in, 'How about just a little bit of barley malt, or dusting my cake pan with flour, that wouldn't be a big deal, right?" Well, you wouldn't ask that, because you know better. You can substitute almond...
  16. There are actually SOME good doctors out there, congratulations on having one of them for your doctor!
  17. At your sons age, the best and most reliable test is to try the gluten-free diet. You've really always known that he is gluten intolerant. Unfortunately, you have an ignorant GI and an even more ignorant pediatrician. Neither one knows a thing about celiac disease it seems to me. Usually blood work and biopsies on children that young will only be positive...
  18. Unfortunately, yes, you may have to remove all dairy to see any improvement at all. And don't substitute with soy, either, as she may react to that as well. Your little one may stop being so picky once food won't make her feel bad any more.
  19. Meline, what I am saying is, if you are concerned about lymphoma (and the risk is actually very small at your age), a biopsy is fine to do. Just don't bother glutening yourself for it, as it won't make any difference to what it will show. Many of us here were sick from celiac disease or gluten intolerance for many, many years (fifty years for me), before...
  20. You know, just a few years ago doctors claimed that celiac disease was very rare here in America as well, like 1 in 10,000 or so. Then they decided that it was more like 1 in 300, and now they finally have it right by saying about one in 100 (and that doesn't include the people who 'only' have gluten intolerance, it is MUCH higher if you include them). ...
  21. Ken, different people heal at different rates. Children and young people appear to heal much quicker than older people on average. Some people would still show some damage after several months, or even a year or two. While others heal completely within weeks. Meline is young, and I have my doubts that damage that is severe enough to be considered celiac...
  22. Just realize that even though these two are the 'official' celiac disease genes over here in America, there are others that are identified in different countries. And that there are biopsy diagnosed people with celiac disease who don't have either of those genes. So, even those gene tests aren't foolproof.
  23. So why do you then keep taking that prescription crap? Just buy some decent vitamin D in the health food store and take that! You don't need your doctor prescribing vitamins (unless you are in Germany, that is, it is illegal there to buy most vitamins now), just buy them and take what you know you should!
  24. That is true. Which is why giving cats and dogs some vegetables mixed into their food is a good idea, and fortification with naturally derived vitamins is a good idea, too. Still, grains are bad for them, period. It shortens their livespan and makes them ill.
  25. What kind of vitamin D supplement do you take? Most prescription vitamin D is the inferior vitamin D2, what you need is D3. I had very low vitamin D levels when finding out I was gluten intolerant. I took two tablespoons of cod liver oil twice daily for a while, and my levels went up very quickly, in fact, they went a little too high! I now take one tablespoonful...
