  1. After suffering with awful pain from the age of three, fatigue and just feeling lousy, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2000. Until then I had just tried ignoring the pain (I didn't know not everybody experienced pain, I thought it was normal). When it got so bad I stopped being able to function, I finally gave in and took painkillers. I had awful...
  2. Actually, the home schooling idea is an excellent one, if you are able to do that!
  3. That's cute, I like it! I bet kids would get a kick out of silly stories like that, too. I know my seven-year-old granddaughter would surely giggle at that. My teacher was teaching the Suzuki method, that's what they use for violin lessons in that music studio. My book is book one of the Suzuki method. Which I like, because it goes one step at a time....
  4. I also just take the wine. I am sure God understands.
  5. You see, it takes at least a few weeks off dairy to see the inflammation resolve. She never gave it a chance to begin with. Just because it doesn't cause instant symptoms doesn't mean there aren't delayed reactions. Sometimes my reactions to certain foods don't show up for days. So, a short elimination diet is also useless, for the same reason. You need...
  6. First of all, there is no such a thing as IBS. If the bowel is irritated, it is caused by something. IBS is a symptom and should never be a diagnosis in itself (okay, it is one of my pet peeves). Has the doctor ever suggested that your son needs to eliminate all dairy in order to get better? ALL people who are gluten intolerant and eliminate gluten also...
  7. She may be dairy and/or soy intolerant as well. Or it could be other intolerances altogether. There is no such thing as IBS. The irritable bowel is a symptom, not a valid diagnosis in itself. Your doctor (or you) needs to find the cause, so your daughter can feel better. I am having the same dilemma right now. My 15-year old daughter is missing at least...
  8. Well, since I am from the north of Germany (Hamburg), I am just fine. They eat all those noodle foods in the south mostly. But I do miss my cakes. And I almost cried when I was in Germany during the summer, and saw those amazing rolls they make, and this time I had to walk past them! That was always one of the things I really looked forward to when visiting...
  9. It sure sounds like Fiona was glutened on the weekend. There is nothing you can do but wait for the effects to wear off. It can take up to two weeks before she is back to her own sweet self. Yes, I had kids cry during the night, but not really being awake and being mean, not recognizing me. I think it is another sign of glutening. My grandchildren would...
  10. It is possible he has a problem with rice. Have you tried mashed bananas? Why don't you try putting chicken into the blender with vegetables and add some coconut oil? It sounds like the quantity of food should be sufficient, but I think it is way too low in good carbs (from vegetables and fruits) and fat. The protein he gets from the dark chicken should...
  11. Colleen, how could you have known about the celiac disease earlier, with the ignorance about it all around us? I had never heard of it until I was in my fifties, and even then didn't apply it to myself until I had been awfully ill for months (when it got to be full-blown celiac disease, that a doctor should have recognized, but still didn't). You are doing...
  12. It depends. For instance, if you have Lyme disease, you'll have leaky gut, which will cause all kinds of intolerances, including gluten intolerance. If you have celiac disease, it will cause leaky gut also. So, sometimes it's hard to know what came first.
  13. Why do you want to delete your account, I hope you aren't leaving us? The only one who can delete your account is Scott (admin). Send him a PM, and he'll do it. If, on the other hand, you just want to change your name, same thing, only he can do it.
  14. I believe I also have dyscalculia, and so does my youngest daughter. I sort of faked my way through life, by developing all kinds of coping strategies to deal with the math problem. I can handle most simple arithmetic most of the time. But when I am under stress, I need a pen and paper, and even then my brain may just shut down and refuse to cooperate. I...
  15. In Germany you can't use anything but graph paper in math, its a rule. But that doesn't help with text problems. I wished here they'd use graph paper, though, it keeps columns lined up and avoids many mistakes.
  16. Is he getting enough protein and saturated fat? Make sure he gets enough meat and vegetables, and put as much coconut oil (non-hydrogenated, cold pressed) into his food as still tastes okay (every cell in the body needs saturated fat, it is essential, not bad for you at all). Eliminate all empty calories (sugar, cookies, rice bread, cake etc.) and make sure...
  17. The problem with an allergy test for celiac disease is that it isn't an allergy, and won't show up on those kind of tests. It is an immune reaction. Excema is always a sign of allergies/intolerances, most of the time from food. The most common problem foods are gluten foods and dairy (even if just through breast milk). Soy is also often a culprit, and...
  18. I now know that I obviously have motor dysgraphia. My teachers tortured me all the way through school because of it. When I went to school in Germany, everything (including math) had to be neat and done in perfect handwriting (not printing, either). If it looked messy, you'd lose marks, even in subjects like math and history, for instance. They made an exception...
  19. Of course, all of the above personality disorders could easily be caused by undiagnosed celiac disease.
  20. Only one cortisol number? When was it taken? One is way too little and doesn't prove much one way or another. And what about the aldosterone? Low aldosterone causes low blood pressure. He should have tested for that! These numbers just prove that your doctor is ignorant when it comes to adrenal fatigue. Ask to be referred to an endocrinologist. Or order...
  21. Gaining way more weight than normal is a symptom of celiac disease. At only 13 weeks pregnant, you should barely be showing, and have hardly gained any weight yet. This pregnancy sounds like your first normal one to me! I always gained a tremendous amount of weight. I would leave the doctor's office in tears after every appointment while pregnant, because...
  22. The tests are extremely unreliable in children under the age of six. So, even if the results are negative, keep her on a gluten-free diet anyway. The diet is the best and most reliable test for this age group. One of my granddaughters used to have terrible temper tantrums several times a day ever since she started eating things with wheat in it. My daughter...
  23. Okay, fine, here I am! Most of the books I have are about/for adults with AS, as I am the one with it, and my kids may have some tendencies, but none of them are even close to actually having AS. I'll list all of the books I have (except for one, which I decidedly didn't like and don't think is helpful). Asperger Syndrome and Sensory Issues...
  24. One huge problem with that so-called study is, that it involved way too few kids! No study of that kind has any validity either way unless it involves at least a few hundred, preferably a thousand or more people. And of course, there could have been tons of false negative in both the bloodwork and the biopsies. Unless they tried the diet with those children...

    ARCHIVED Celiac

I used to have a very inflamed stomach, which lasted still for several weeks after going gluten-free. The thing that helped heal that inflammation and calm my stomach was a homeopathic remedy called 'sepia'. You find it in any health food store. I used to take six pellets several times a day. Now I use it when glutened, to calm stomach cramps. It works...
