ARCHIVED Ready, Set, Go...
mcsteffi replied to familyfirst's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
OH, and make a list as you go of what you like and what you dont like. It helps and then you dont have to rely on your memory! I saw on this board some where to put a list inside your pantry to write the likes and dislikes on. That helped us when we first started. My kid is a streak eater anyway, so while he was stuck on the same thing for a week I would... -
ARCHIVED Ready, Set, Go...
mcsteffi replied to familyfirst's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Do you plan on going to a health food store or a regular grocery store? We go to both, from the health food store we get bread, snacks, cereal, cookies and the reg. store everything else. Like for spaghetti I get the noodles from Earthfare and everything else from Food Lion. Its very time consuming. Ask your health food store if they have a gluten-free... -

I see you posted this a while back... sorry I dont have time to check out the board as much as I would like. I am not celiac but my 3 yr old son is. For that reason we havent been to the support group meeting but we do have them here. I think they meet every other month. I can give you the ladies name that organizes it if you like. We have an Earth... -
I too love sonic... esp their milkshakes.... so one day I called to make sure they had a dedicated fryer and asked a few other questions. Its my 3 yr old son that is celiac. When we got there I asked to get a kids meal w/ a hot dog plain instead of the corn dog in the kids meal. They were sooo rude. The manager came out and told me that was impossible...

Due to restaurant people... and most people in general... not knowing what is in their food, I usually just say my son is allergic to flour. They understand that much more than the wheat thing. lol. Or try saying I am allergic to wheat that includes anything made with flour. Learning as I go! Stef.

mcsteffi replied to Nantzie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would not think any school would need a note. My sons school had seen how sick he was though and was thrilled the first time they saw him run! When they saw what a difference a diet could make they did not question me. But also I take most of his food. I take his rice and chicken or pasta and he eats the side dishes there. He also has a bin in the... -

My insurance did cover a dietician and she wasnt much help. The only thing she did that was helpful was give me the name of the celiac contacts at the health food stores. All other information she gave me I already had, even some was incorrect. And being that she isnt celiac she really couldnt answer alot of questions for me.... the best answers I have... -
ARCHIVED Gatlinbug & Pigeon Forge
mcsteffi replied to swittenauer's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
All either one of us can remember is it has Smokehouse in the name. It was in the yellow pages of the phone book and the ad said something about making their own hamburgers. When I called to check some other items the guy I talked (think it was the manager or assi. manager) to was very nice and seemed to know quite a bit. Have fun on your trip!! Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Gatlinbug & Pigeon Forge
mcsteffi replied to swittenauer's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
We went there in Feb and I found the restaurants very easy to deal with. I will have to ask my husband the place we ended up eating at but it was very good. They ground their own hamburger so we got that w/ out the bun and it was great. I will see if he remembers and post it. Stephanie -
Did you find out any information via email about the restuarants? Please post it if you do. I think we will try the crab house that was suggested and maybe that steak house but probably just eat at the condo. But I would like to have choices if we do go out. Stephanie

I was wondering if you found any other places to eat out in Myrtle Beach or if the steak house suggested was good? We will be going for a long weekend at the end of August. The condo has a kitchen so we can fix our own breakfast and lunches but we like going out for dinner. Thanks for the help. Stephanie
