  1. As the OP, can I request that this thread be closed? I simply wanted to know if anyone else had ever had a bad experience with ground beef. I wasn't looking to start a fight.
  2. Cross contamination and additives are two entirely different things.
  3. I responded to the issue of the black-bottomed package because it is a rather distinctive packaging that I have never seen before on any other ground beef product. It is NOT a black-bottomed styo package. It is a square, soft plastic black packaging which is easily seen from the front of the package, and it has a distinctive appearance. I didn't mention...
  4. Nope. It was a pre-packaged (not made at the store) store brand. However, usually store brands are manufactured by someone else, so it's possible it could have come from the same place. I bought another package of it, and I'm going to try it without the tomato sauce tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.
  5. I also had a great experience at Red Robin in Salt Lake City, UT. The server was incredibly knowledgeable, the fries were cooked in a dedicated gluten-free fryer, and I didn't get sick. Just wish they had one where I live.
  6. enjoy life makes wonderful chocolate chips that contain only "Evaporated Cane Juice, Natural Chocolate Liquor (Non-Alcoholic), Non-Dairy Cocoa Butter." They are made in a dedicated facility that doesn't process the major allergens. They really scratch the itch for chocolate.
  7. I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis about 6 months ago, but I had had it for at least 6 years. The elimination diet for that was what led me to getting tested for celiac (long story). For me, my IC symptoms cleared up almost immediately after going gluten, soy, dairy, nightshade, egg, and nut free. I have been able to add back nuts, eggs, small...
  8. The OP said, "I have read previous posts on the forum and realize that a condition that has plagued me since childhood called tonsil stones or cryptic tonsils is related to celiacs." I was just reacting to that post.
  9. I got glutened there last night. The server was very nice, and offered to change his gloves and all of the spoons in the ingredients, since they come into constant contact with the flour tortillas. That set off a warning bell in my head not to eat there, since even if they changed the spoons, those contaminated spoons had been plunged back into the food numerous...
  10. Wow! I had no idea these were related to celiac. I've had these since I was a kid. It makes me wonder just how long I've been celiac, since many of the symptoms I have, I had even as a child (only to a lesser degree). I'm middle aged, and it's a little scary to think that I've been sick my whole life without knowing it.
  11. I'm sorry, IrishHeart! It's tough to have multiple food issues. I seem to have issues with all of the nightshades -- tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and eggplant, and also with dairy and with most nuts. I'm hoping to get some of these back someday. I think (I hope) I just tried too soon.
  12. Interesting. This was a sealed pack, and I believe the back of it was black.
  13. In a pre-packaged product like I bought, I'm not sure how it would be cc'd either. However, I can definitely see how it might be cc'd if it's prepared in the grocery store. They also make other things that could contain gluten (think pre-seasoned patties, etc.) But I think you're right that the tomatoes are the likely culprit.
  14. Everything was thoroughly cooked, and raw cross contamination avoided. I do think I have a recurring problem with tomatoes.
  15. I haven't yet replaced my cookware. (I'm still pretty new to all this). I wonder if that might be part of the problem. Using an acidic tomato sauce would be likely to loosen anything clinging to the pans or the wooden spoons.
  16. I can't recall the brand name at the moment, but it was a pre-packaged brand from Australia.
  17. This is my life today. I went on an out-of-town trip, and was extremely careful. I only ate at places recommended on my findmeglutenfree app, I told all the servers about my needs, I only ate gluten free food. I ate a LOT of salads because that was all I could figure out to eat at times. Sometimes, I just didn't eat at all if it didn't seem safe. And then...
  18. Thanks for all the responses so far! I plan to reply to them, but things have gone into overdrive here and I won't be able to respond until sometime next week. Just didn't want you to think I was ignoring you, or ungrateful for your help. :-)
  19. Twice I have bought some grass-fed ground beef and had symptoms of being glutened afterward. They were not patties, just regular grass-fed ground beef. Both times it was the same brand. Unfortunately, I have no other choice for grass-fed beef at the supermarket that I shop at (I know I can get it locally, but it's more of a pain). The only other thing...
  20. What great news! I'm so glad you found a good doc!
  21. If you reread my posts, you'll see that I never said anywhere that someone needs an endoscopy because they might be in a nursing home someday. I said I would want an official diagnosis in case I was ever in a nursing home someday. Some doctors will do that based on blood tests. Mine won't, that is why I am choosing to do endoscopy. I never said anyone else...
  22. Yes, there are some kind, really dedicated people who work in nursing homes. However, nursing home work is very difficult and many people don't want to do it. As a result, they tend to get either the very dedicated, loving people who are there because they really care, or the people who had serious trouble getting a job anywhere else. You can come to your...
  23. Unfortunately, what they should do, and what they actually do in nursing homes are two very different things. My friend the diabetic who gets fed potatoes and apple juice daily is not a rare example. This is from my experience dealing with multiple people in multiple nursing homes. The family members' request in her case has made no difference whatsoever...
  24. It seems I may have been right about the fish oil being the cause. I bit into one, and oh boy, was it rancid! I replaced it with a fresh bottle (which I tested for rancidity), and after about two days all my breast tenderness went away, for which I am very thankful!!! The only reason I even thought to try this was that my mother had extremely sick with...
  25. I'm diagnosed with NCGI at the moment, but am seeking a celiac diagnosis after a positive blood test. Most of the time when it comes to food, I say, "I can't, thank you. I'm on an extremely restrictive medical diet." With the few people that I've told that I might have celiac, I've said something like, "It's a disease in which the immune system overreacts...
