ARCHIVED Anyone Deal With Gastritis?
across replied to Palvyre's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My gastritis didn't stop until I eliminated tea -- especially hot tea. I'm not sure why the hot bothers me worse than the iced tea, but it does. I also have problems with coffee. -
I'm so sorry you're going through this! For me, the anxiety went away quickly -- but not all of it. I found that like many celiacs, dairy also gives me problems. When I cut out gluten and ALL dairy, I went from being extremely anxious and self-condemning to having a calm and peaceful mind. For this, I thank God!

ARCHIVED Gluten Free B Complex?
across posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm a fan of NOW Foods' vitamins, but their B complex says that although it does not have gluten containing ingredients, it is manufactured in a facility that processes gluten. Having had a reaction to something that came off a shared line before (although it was NOT from NOW Foods), I'm concerned enough to be looking for a good B complex without a risk of... -
ARCHIVED Fear Of Unknown, Other Ai
across replied to LookingforAnswers15's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Regarding beans...you have to be careful with them. Some varieties are grown in the same fields with barley. In my last bag of pinto beans, I found 3 or 4 pieces of barley. Because of this, I don't eat any beans I don't sort myself. In other words, no canned beans -- even if they're labeled gluten free (I don't actually think I have ever seen that were).... -

Sent you a pm. -
I get SUPER self-critical when I'm glutened. I mean really, really bad! I tell myself over and over how worthless I am. Just like you, I can't get it out of my head. When I haven't been glutened, I'm as calm and happy as can be.

I've been gluten free since diagnosis about a year and a half ago. I'm currently taking: vitamin D -- was diagnosed with low levels magnesium -- started taking this as a result of a recommendation I read somewhere calcium -- I can't tolerate dairy CoQ10 -- was diagnosed with low levels vitamin A -- just started this yesterday. If I'm not eating...

I'm curious to know which supplements everyone takes and why.

ARCHIVED Thyroid Medictaions? Levoxyl?
across replied to Tigercat17's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My sister (who at least as far as we know does not have Celiac) was on a thyroid med and was doing fine on it, and then out of the blue she started having all kinds of horrible reactions to dairy. Two docs have told her that they think the manufacturer changed something in the formulation that damaged her gut and caused her problems. She got off of it, and... -
ARCHIVED Increased Hair Growth
across replied to symphonyofdreams547's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My eyebrows filled back in and I noticed a big difference in my body hair. I think the hair on my head has also increased in quantity (I had lost quite a bit over the years, but fortunately, I had a lot to start with). -
ARCHIVED Chef That Wants Your Feedback
across replied to allergiescooked's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I can't eat out with my husband...ever. I used to eat out at one place that is very, very careful, but wound up getting glutened there eventually. That was about 2 months ago, and I'm still not over the after-effects. I can't afford to risk it. The only place I would consider eating out from now would be s a 100% dedicated gluten-free restaurant (there isn... -
Nope, didn't know that. I only have anxiety following a glutening (beginning within minutes of exposure), and it follows a predictable pattern, so I'm guessing it's that and not my thyroid. The first time I took Kavinace it didn't do anything for me either. The next time I took two. Two seems to help blunt the edge of the anxiety some for me.
-
My functional medicine doc suggested that Kavinace might help me when accidentally glutened. It actually does seem to help some with the raging anxiety I get following a glutening. Anyone else have any experience with it good or bad, or know anything that might make it a bad idea to use?

ARCHIVED Depression, Anxiety And Low Energy Testimonials
across replied to symphonyofdreams547's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Anxiety 100% gone unless I get glutened -- then it's back instantly. (I have to note that dairy also gives me anxiety, so I avoid it too). For me, the sequence when I get glutened is anxiety, then depression, then tiredness. After three days, these acute symptoms pass. Before I gave up gluten, it was just constant anxiety all the time. -
ARCHIVED Newbie Seeking Similar Personal Experience?
across replied to DJTonkovich's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I agree with kareng -- go slow and try to eliminate things one at a time. No need to eliminate more than you have to! Something else you might consider experimenting with is reducing high histamine foods. If you do a quick google search, you can find lots of info on this. In addition to celiac, I have a histamine intolerance. At first, I thought it was... -
ARCHIVED Brain Damage
across replied to Matsparks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm sorry, I think I misunderstood. Are you talking about being diagnosed with celiac, or are you talking about the brain scan? -
Mentally speaking, dairy does almost the exact same thing to me that gluten does.

ARCHIVED Brain Damage
across replied to Matsparks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get neruo symptoms, as well. I did have a brain scan due to what you describe as "body jerks," but they found nothing. I figure that whatever the state of my brain health is now, it's infinitely better than when I'm on gluten, and for that, I'm thankful. Even if you worry about it, it won't change any damage that's already there. I would just keep eating... -
For years my lips would peel horribly (like sking coming off in sheets), crack, and bleed. I was constantly chewing on them because there was always dead/hardened skin on them. It was painful and gross. Then I discovered that I was sensitive to petroleum and the coloring in lipstick. Putting chapstick on was only making it worse due to the petroleum....

ARCHIVED Most Ridiculous Gluten Comment I've Heard
across replied to C-Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went to an Outback Steakhouse awhile back because they are usually pretty good about being gluten-free. I was getting take-out for one, and I was very specific about my dietary needs with the young lady who took my order. She said she understood, and that she would be extra vigilant, and check with the kitchen on everything to make sure I got no gluten... -

Okay, how about "Most Ridiculous Celiac Comment Ever?" "Oh yeah, we know all about celiac disease. Our son had it. But you know what? He was cured by acupuncture. Now he can eat gluten anytime he wants. You should try it!" -
ARCHIVED Many New Food Allergies At Once?
across replied to klk9100's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know if this would apply to anyone in this thread, but someone posted some research in another part of this forum that mentioned many celiacs have a nickel allergy, and nickel shows up in a number of foods. Google "foods high in nickel" to learn more. -
ARCHIVED Lemonaise--Yum!
across posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just got home from the grocery store and found a certified gluten-free mayonnaise product called Lemonaise by the The Ojai Cook. I took a little taste of it and WOW! It is SOOOOO good! Nevermind the fact that it's a mayonnaise product -- I could literally eat this with a spoon like ice cream! I'm very impressed with the ingredient list -- all non... -
My dietician was out of town for the long holiday weekend recently, and another Rise dietician helped me while she was gone. She was also very good. If the two of them are any indication, this is a very good service.
