  1. I had breast implants for 15 years, they had broken shortly after being put in, although I did not know till 15 years later. During that time many things happened along with constant illeness and sore throats, weird spots that have never left my body. They were afraid I had cancer and now I have two horrifying scars on top of my breasts. The silicone oozed throughout my body and formed like cement on my chest walls. I believe I had celiac before but this triggered probably many others.

I knew one woman who was only 35 years old, she was bright and creative and in less than six months of her implants breaking her mind went, she was found to be Celiac and died of lupus . I know many others who died and had autoimmune diseases which they never had before because of the implants. I have been fighting in a class action suit for the last 20 years over this.

I questioned the doctor extensively about what were the risks and he said there were none, and they would never break. Well, he is now in the US doing implants and every woman he put implants in have been sick and they all broke. I had an extensive conversation with his ex wife who is also a doctor. She told me everyone is looking for him but his being in the US puts him out of our reach.

For anyone planning on getting them. Please, please be so careful. If he had told me the truth, I would have never got the darn things.

  2. I am so sorry for you Lynne and Tinker. I am so glad it has not gotten to that point with me. I put in for a full time position here but my fear is if I get it, will I be able to work it. I am under severe restrictions by my doctor that I can only work day shifts and not after 6 Pm because of my bipolar. Also if I work usually more than three days in a week I am so exhausted I can't see straight. That has been ever since things started really going bad eight years ago with the onslaught of pernicious anemia.

  3. From 2001-2003 in Canada it was considered a disability because of the fact we had to trudge everywhere to get food, the making of the food the fact that this disease could interfere with daily living. Then all of a sudden so bright individual who doesn't have this decided that it isn't a disability because we don't need a feeding tube. So, now it is considered a medical expense which means, in order to get any part of it off our income tax we need to make copious amounts of money.

  4. This can very well be a double-edged sword for us. In one way it could get more gluten-free food into restaurants and stores for us but will it be made totally that way or will they take it as a fad? Which means they will not care if there is a little gluten added into it from a machine or whatever, because they think this is a fad. Yes, this could diminish the importance of our food and other products if they think it is just a fad. They have to realize that this is more than a fad for some, this is their lives.

  5. Welcome to the board Celia Fairy dust. Yes, celiac3270 is a fact- based person, so am I but I think we could all use some fairy dust from time to time. Now I believe that anyone who has the health problems we do, diabetics do, anyone who has these problems is in tune with their bodies. They have to be because the medical profession isn't in tune with many things.

I also believe in magic and the magic of the dust of the Fae. Whether someone believes that to be a physical thing or an mental magic that is up to them but everyone can always use happy things. I can definitely see celiac3270s point and your happy thoughts.

I, like you, believe we are chosen by the gods and are special beings. That is because they know others would surely perish with this and we won't because we are the strong.

Just for the record a name meaning is different than a scientific name meaning. You were saying what your name meant as a name and celiac3270 was showing the scientific meaning. Some scientific names, sound and look similar to peoples names but mean different things.Celia,Ceciia, Celeste actually derived from Celestial. Although as a human name it is meant as "from the heavens" or short form "heavenly" it is not the literal scientific name. But the sky is a hole in it's own way and Celia and Celiac are similar names in spelling and although a hole in the stomach is not nearly as magical as a hole in the sky with stars in it, we have both in the world.

  6. You should print all of these off for that quack of a doctor. I had a dermatologist say the same thing to me about weight and Celiac so, I had him do a skin biopsy for Dh well, the end result was him eating crow. He didn't think an overweight person could be celiac, he also didn't believe dh was anywhere but on knees and elbows. Boy are doctors lame. Needless to say because of this disease I gained well over a 100 lbs in less than eight years. May that jerk of a doctor get what he deserves.

  7. I was never part of the in crowd and now I am. We are so posh. I can't imagine why anyone would intentionally want to be like us but now they have made us all the rage. Nothing worse than being the flavor of the month but who knows, maybe in some perverse way this new "trend" will help us food wise.

  8. Well between my thirty year stint with tmj and my life long clenching and grinding issues. We tried every type of retainer but I would either choke at night or my tongue would flip it out during the day. I ended up breaking two of them before I became adept at catching them in mid air while talking to people. Now, thanks to all of that and Celiac, I don't have many teeth to worry about anymore, but I still have tmj.

Me too. And I'm part-time so if I don't work, I don't get paid. Actually, I booked next Saturday off. Get home from work about 12:45am on Saturday and then have to get up for a road trip to Edmonton. Just a quick overnight. Our first road trip dealing with Ty's gluten-free needs. Get up Sunday morning and have to be back at work by 3:45pm.

So, you are shafted like me.You have no benefits or recourse if you are sick a day. I lost all of mine when I had to move from driving bus to the office. I was not suppose to lose my status but the union did not do anything to help the two of us who got shafted. I am worse than part-time right now, I am what they call on-call. That is why I have other things I do to make money.

That is one quick trip you are on. I hope you have a good time, and it is gluten uneventful.

  10. I love not having the big D anymore.

I love that I have lost 35lbs without doing anything and continuing I am continuing to lose. I love that I found this forum and I love all of you and what wonderful and funny things you all come up with. I love that when I see or smell glutenous food that, I don't crave it or even want it anymore. I love that even though I don't feel perfect, I do feel better than before and look forward to eventually being near perfect. I love that everyone on here is getting better and feeling better.

    Morning!

Have a wonderful Honey Pecan Bar recipe I plan to use for my daughters June wedding reception. The base is 1/2 cup packed brown sugar,1 egg yolk and 1 1/2 cups flour- baked 15 minutes before adding the cooked topping. I subst. Wendy's flour mix for the wheat flour and added 1/4 tsp zanthan gum. I am awaiting the "test" batch to finish cooling. My question is if the base is crumbling what suggestions do you have for correcting this. I thought about adding a second egg yolk and/or increasing the zanthan gum. Does anyone have experience bar dessert bases? I seem to remember seeing a lemon bar recipe but haven't located it again. Thank you!

    Debbie Lynne

I would suggest adding a bit of guar gum. xanthan gum is expensive and I don't find it as binding as guar gum or add more xantham gum if that is what you have on hand.

I don't really measure when I bake, and I am leary by anything from Tofutti (non-dairy cream cheese), so I tend to just stick to tofu. That would, no doubt, make it more cream cheesey, but I like this anyway. This is the basic recipe - change it however you can! (I like carob raspberry).

1 block of silken tofu (I use a container of Mori-Nu), drained.

    about 1/2 cup of soymilk

    1/2 c. sucanat

1/4 c. honey or maple syrup

    vanilla extract

Put in crust and bake at 350 until set. I don't recall how long... I'm sorry! Maybe about 20 minutes? I'll keep looking for where I jotted it down.

What is sucanat? I have not heard of that before. But this looks great.

I know tofutti does say that they can't guarantee their cream cheese but I have had no problems in the past with it but things could change.

Yep the actual fruit. 100% coconut and nothing else. You can drink the water and scoop out the actual fruit and it is soooooo good. All you have to do is stick a straw or a spoon in it. It tastes particularly awesome right after a workout. I get it at Whole Foods. I've seen them at lots of different health food stores.

I recommended it to a friend once and she fogot to buy the one that was already cut open - ended up having to throw it against a curb  Definitely worth looking for next time you're at a health food store though. :)

Coconut water is excellent. It restore electrolites if you are out in the hots sun or exercising too. Many people who have been lost in forests in Jamaica have stayed alive drinking coconut water. I drank it when I was in Jamaica I loved it, not crazy about the immature fruit inside but the water is great.
