ARCHIVED Member Poll - Who Abstains From Other Foods Besides Gluten?
danikali replied to Jeepster's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So far I have taken out gluten (of course), dairy (casein-so that means non-dairy as well), soy, corn (for now), eggs, coffee (even decaf), non-herbal tea, and now I'm thinking citrus fruits because of these stupid knee pains that won't go away. I also don't eat anything processed anymore, not even candy. Not for a while anyway. The gluten is obvious... -
Hi everyone! Well, when I was eating gluten, I was having HORRIBLE KNEE PAINS ALL DAY LONG. Well, now that I am gluten free, the pain has subsided, A LOT, but not completely. When I sit down for too long (which is what I do at work everyday), they hurt. Not as bad as before, and they don't hurt when I walk anymore, but it's this annoying lingering pain...

ARCHIVED I Have The Gene For Celiac!
danikali replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, thanks Nancy! Even though I have known for a while how I feel off the gluten and on the gluten, and the ENORMOUS difference between each, I'm glad I got all of the tests done to know exactly where I stand. But like I said, even if I didn't get a clear diagnosis, I would have stayed away from that junk forever anyway. I've been waiting about 7 years... -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten Intolerance Forever?
danikali replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hm....well, true about her being older and "living a little" with the gluten. Probably being off of it for a while, it would take a lot for the symptoms and all of the damage to come back again. -
ARCHIVED I Have The Gene For Celiac!
danikali replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
aww, thanks Patti...haha, I know you guys were always on my side, even more than a lot of family! But thanks. It really is good to know for sure, especially from the doctor who is supposed to know "everything there is to know" (so far) about Celiac Disease. -
ARCHIVED Bambam's Diet
danikali replied to BamBam's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Nancy, What is threelac? I think I may have a problem with yeast too because I get yeast infections often. Everytime I try to go on the diet though, I mess it up by eating peanuts or peanut butter. That's like chocolate to me these days because I can't have anything else with the taste and texture. It's what I run to when I have a craving for chocolate... -
ARCHIVED I Have The Gene For Celiac!
danikali posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi guys! Well I'm so excited (should I be?) because I just got off the phone with Dr. Green and I have the Celiac gene HLA DQ8. With being on and off and on and off gluten while testing for Celiac, the doctors gave me no answers! So, I went to enterolab and tested positive for sensitivity.......and it got bad again so I went to Dr. Green and now I... -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten Intolerance Forever?
danikali replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think you're right Tiffany. Honestly, even if I could have it again as a "maybe" I still don't think I would ever touch the stuff again. I'm feeling so good these days, I would be scared of the person I would become eating that crap again! Not only do I feel more healthy and energized (with many symptoms clearing up, rapidly), I am the person I want to... -

ARCHIVED Is Gluten Intolerance Forever?
danikali replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know that for Celiac disease, which is only a specific kind of gluten intolerance, you can never have it again. But what if I don't have the actual Celiac gene and I just have gluten sensitivity......does that mean that it's a whole different story and it will eventually go away? -
ARCHIVED Bambam's Diet
danikali replied to BamBam's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm really no pro at any of this or even close, as I am just starting to get a hang of this myself. But, maybe she should stay away from ALL processed foods of any kind, and candy because honestly, my system can't even handle any of that right now. It's what I call "FAKE FOODS" and when you're sick, it doesn't help, so you shouldn't have it because it could... -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten Intolerance Forever?
danikali posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi guys, I just have a question. Now, I know if you have celiac disease, or even the gene for it, then gluten is something you need to stay away from FOREVER. Well, I am waiting for my results on the gene test by Dr. Green, just to see if I have the actual Celiac gene. I already know that I am severely intolerant to gluten from diet results and from enterolab... -
All I can say is YES YES YES! I also have that problem and it's horrible, isn't it? To have to deal with gluten intolerance ON TOP OF the horrible bladder issues! May I ask what foods bother you exactly. I've noticed that I can't have coffee, (even decaf.), any alcohol these days, sugar in processed or "fake" foods, chocolate and salt. Does salt effect you...

ARCHIVED Good Bread?
danikali replied to Susan123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you get a bread machine, which I think is worth it, the potato bread is the BEST! It comes out fluffier than rice, at least I think so. I would say homemade potato bread is the closest thing to real bread. My step-Mom made it the other day and EVERYONE was eating it, a lot of it, and not everyone is gluten intolerant! -
ARCHIVED Quakers Corn Meal
danikali replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks ladies, that's a good point. I guess Quakers is a no-no now, but not because of the corn, necessarily. It could have been contaminated......so now that my stomach has been better for about a week now, I will try plain old corn and see what happens. -
ARCHIVED Quakers Corn Meal
danikali replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I actually read Dangerous Grains, but I didn't know that that question was answered in there.........oh well, I guess it doesn't matter though........but does anyone know if gluten intolerance ever goes away? For example, say in 5 years or so, will I be able to eat it again regularly? -

ARCHIVED Finally Feeling Better For One Whole Week!
danikali replied to danikali's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks guys! Great tips! Actually, I'm really really really scared to eat out, so I'm thinking I'm going to bring a meal everywhere I go! It's so interesting how much life changes with just changing your diet. I mean, I'm going to a lot of planning before I go on this trip. Usually, I would just pack the night before and go! Thanks for the help... -
ARCHIVED Quakers Corn Meal
danikali replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, so, this extra intolerance deal doesn't just happen to people with non-celiac gluten sensitivity, right? I'm sorry to be a little bit dissapointed in Dr. Green again, but because no doctors have proven yet that I have Celiac damage (I have only gotten a positive test from enterolab for gluten sensitivity and had positive results on the diet) to my small... -

Wow! Good ideas Jen! Thanks! That's a great idea to ask the hotel to provide me with a mini fridge.....I didn't even think of that! So I'll be able to store food in there as if I'm at home! That's great! Hmmmmm........I'm going to research which food stores are around there, hopefully a whole foods....... We're taking a plane, not driving, so I can... -
Thanks Jen! Yeah, it feels so good to go a whole week of feeling good. I'm being so careful about everything, it's not even funny! The only thing I'm worried about is that in 2 weeks from now, I'm going on vacation, and although for the most part we'll be staying at my fiance's parents winter home, 2 nights we're going to be at a hotel in South Beach...

Does anyone know when your body stops creating new food intolerances? And are you able to introduce some of them back into your diet in time? And if so, how long? -
Wow that's interesting you had joint and muslce pains from Zelnorm, chandler. Well, I've decided that I'm not going to take them at all........I haven't taken it since I started this post, and I go to the bathroom everyday with no blood. I'm sure it had to be because I was eating way to many bananas and not enough of a variety. I'm doing that now and I feel...
