  1. My 12 yo son is DQ3,3 subtype 7,7 also. His primary symptoms are also things like brainfog, ADD type episodes, mild GI stuff and this funny eye-rolling thing. He's much better off gluten!
  2. Does anyone else have a busy schedule and need to get dinner made in the morning before work or ready the night before? I need some new recipes that are gluten-free, dairy free and soy free. Does anyone have anything they'd like to share? Here's what I already do: Time bake: Roast chicken and potatoes, chicken in curry sauce and rice, chicken with...
  3. I weighed in today at 162-1/2. Still have a long way to go, but at least I'm down a pound since last week. I'll be too busy to post for several days. Tomorrow I'll be doing some cooking and freezing meals for my busy fall and then we're going to the beach on Sunday and Monday. School starts on Tuesday and I'll be back in the grind - working, carpooling...
  4. I've had 5 good days in a row now. I think I remember what I ate today. B - several bites of a smoked turkey drumstick L - grilled "fake cheese" sandwich, banana, tomato S - cherry pie Lara Bar D - taco salad: lettuce, gr. turkey, guacamole, salsa and a corn tortilla S - 1/2 C pistachios No exercise yet, but hoping to go for a walk right...
  5. Hi everyone. I went back to work this week and haven't had a chance to get on here. I've been doing really well with my eating. Lots of fruits and veggies and lean meats. Daughters and I are doing a "challenge" for 10 days to see who can stick perfectly to no sugar, no chips, only 3 grain-based carb servings a day, only 4 fruits and limited fats. So...
  6. Hmm, interesting. I found out in March (I think) that I have very low vitamin D too. Can't figure out why my body isn't absorbing it, since I've been gluten-free for quite a while. I'm still on large doses of D since my numbers are going up slowly. Maybe it will help my hair too! I've got lots of curls on the sides, but not much up on top.
  7. This is what I do on Thanksgiving and Easter. NO gluten allowed. I make almost everything and I want to be able to enjoy the whole meal. I'll let people bring sparkling cider, pickles, olives, sweet potatoes or salads, but that's it. It might be a bit more expensive, but I love to cook and bake anyway and everyone seems to love the meals. We always have...
  8. Welcome Beth and "Bellyfat"! Hope you stick around and join in. We're here to support each other and I hope you enjoy the thread.
  9. My hair started getting very thin in college - the same time I started having serious digestive problems. It got thicker when I was pregnant (3 times) and then thinned out again and then thickened a bit when I removed gluten, dairy, eggs and soy from my diet. A few years ago I had to go on Prednisone for 9 months and it got REALLY thin again. It still...
  10. Didn't have a chance to post here yesterday. I weighed in at 163-1/2. Way more than I'd like to weigh, but at least it's coming back down after my camping trip and a few weeks of not being careful.
  11. Yeah, I think when she brings it up again I'll tell her how much I appreciate her wanting to help and ask if she could please get a large fruit or vegetable tray. My daughter's response to this whole thing was, "Why does she care? She's not even coming!"
  12. My daughter is having a big 16th birthday party next month and wants the whole thing to be gluten-free. (She's gluten intolerant and is very dedicated to the diet.) She'll have at least 40 teenagers there, so it will be a lot of food. We're having chips, cookies, fruit and vegetable trays, punch and cake. I completely support her in this choice and am...
  13. Stef - don't worry about the weight. It just happens when you're pregnant. I'm sure you'll lose it quickly afterwards, but don't worry if it doesn't come off right away. Some people are really lucky in that they lose weight right away when they're breastfeeding. Others, like me, didn't lose it right away. It will come off if you work hard at it. I remember...
  14. My husband and I had our anniversary last night and my kids (girls 15 and 14, boys 12 and 10) made an absolutely delicious, special dinner for us. (The girls did most of the cooking.) Candlelight, lace tablecloth, flowers, decorations and wedding photos set the stage. They sealed off the kitchen and dining room all day so I couldn't see what they were...
  15. Welcome Kathleen! I'm glad you're here. None of us have kept up very well in the past few weeks, so maybe you'll inspire us to get back on track. Feel free to jump right on in. Keating823 - Great job with the gluten free! Sounds like your weight is starting to head the right direction, so keep up the good work! It's my anniversary today and I'm...
  16. It sounds like maybe it has improved. We went almost exactly a year ago, so they've had time to work out any problems with their recipes. Next time I'm driving that way I'll try to stop, but after our first experience we won't make a special trip. I do a lot of baking myself and something has to taste at least as good and hopefully better for me to want...
  17. We make "cowboy s'mores". Instead of using graham crackers we make gluten-free chocolate chip cookies (really easy) with LOTS of chocolate chips. Then we use them instead of crackers and chocolate. EVERYONE loves these!
  18. Hi all. I did okay yesterday except for eating a bunch of licorice that I found at a discount store. I was so surprised to see "wheat free/gluten free" on the label and have missed licorice, so I bought it without thinking of my diet. I ate too much . Other than that, except for two peanut butter cookies , here's what I ate. B - spoonful of almond...
  19. I mix up my flour in big batches with the xanthan gum well sifted in. I store it in the refrigerator in a gallon sized container. It's nice to have the flour ready to go without having to mix up a bunch of flours for every recipe. I use a similar recipe to Carol Fenster's: 3 C brown rice flour 1 C potato starch 1/2 C tapioca starch 2-1/2 tsp. xanthan...
  20. Hi Stef and welcome! We'd love to have you here, so jump right on in whenever you want. I hope your last little bit of pregnancy goes well.
  21. Way to go Keating823! I'm glad you're feeling better. You can worry about will-power and weight loss later - after you've gotten the gluten-free thing down. I had an okay day today. B - 3 pieces turkey bacon S - large serving of homemade blackberry cobbler (oops!) L - salad with chopped chicken and Caesar dressing, slice of deli turkey, handful...
  22. Hi everyone! I was camping in the San Juan Islands for 6 days and just got back. We had a great time, but I ate WAAYY too much and managed to gain 4 pounds. I'm hoping that some of that is water weight since I ate a lot of salty chips and tend to retain water. I am disgusted with myself and am committed to being "good" for a while. School starts in ...
  23. Hi all. It's the embarrassed, food-a-holic checking in to say that I have been a complete failure. At least I've been exercising a lot. I weighed in at 164 yesterday - forgot to weigh today as I had to leave early for a big day. It's only 2 pounds up from what I was a few weeks ago. So I guess I lost 2 pounds somehow, after gaining 4.
  24. I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis, (which is almost exactly the same as RA) about 11 years ago by a rheumatologist, not just self-diagnosed. A second opinion got the same diagnosis. I was told it was autoimmune. I have been in remission for most of the past 10-1/2 years after going on a gluten-free (for the most part), dairy, soy and egg free diet...
  25. I was diagnosed with Colitis and then IBS and told to eat a "low residue" diet. Lots of cream of wheat, white bread, etc. Then I was told to eat a high fiber diet with lots of whole wheat and wheat bran etc.. I finally just tried to cope by taking huge quantities of Tums and digestive enzymes. Somewhere in there I got my tonsils taken out after a year...
