ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
lonewolf replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome Paula! I'm trying to get my size 10 shorts to fit comfortably too, but I have no dream of getting into my wedding dress again. Three pregnancies did a whammy to my mid section and I'll never have a waistline like that again. One thing that I forgot to ask all of you - do you want to have one official weigh-in day or just share as you lose the... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed For 2 Months. Miss Sandwiches. Help?
lonewolf replied to geeze's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you tried making sandwiches in a sandwich grill or Panini press? I use Ener-G food LIGHT Tapioca bread and whatever fillings we all want (turkey and cheese, plain cheese, sliced chicken and onions, etc.) and grill them. The bread tastes great this way and even my non gluten-free kids love these sandwiches. It would work great with a BLT, if you added... -

Welcome Cathy (Kaycee) and Kathy (Fajitas)! I'm so glad you're up for this again! Cathy - that's great that you've continued to lose weight since our old thread died. That's when I stopped. Kathy - your exercise goal is great. I always feel better when I exercise regularly too. Thanks to everyone who has jumped on board. I hope we can all... -

ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
lonewolf replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Janet, You might want to add a bit of protein to each meal. It helps you stay full longer and helps keep your blood sugar stable so you don't get bad cravings. You also might want to have a piece of fruit for an afternoon snack. Or maybe something like an apple with a tablespoon of peanut or almond butter. Also, if I don't eat enough, I eat WAAYY... -
ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
lonewolf replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yay! I'm glad to have company. Welcome Amanda and Janet! Janet - a "thread" is a series of messages about one topic. This will be the 4th message in this "thread". This is what we did on our old thread - introduce ourselves, tell what our goals are and then each day, when possible, write down what we've eaten. I'm a busy mom to 4 kids ages 1... -
ARCHIVED 1st gluten-free Camping Trip
lonewolf replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We love camping and have done a few totally gluten-free trips. Here's what we usually eat: Breakfasts: Turkey bacon and chicken sausage from Trader Joe's, scrambled eggs, pancakes, fried potatoes, grilled gluten-free toast, applesauce made from dried apples (put them in a pan with water over the fire while the rest of breakfast is cooking), cereal and... -
ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
lonewolf posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I loved the old weight loss support thread and was active on it, but it kind of died and lots of the people who were on there no longer post here. Would anyone else like to join me in a new thread where we can encourage each other, give advice (when asked for), support each other and have a way to be "accountable"? I lost 12 pounds earlier this year,... -
Thanks, Patti, I got corn back after about 2 years, legumes after about 4-5, and all the other "little ones" somewhere in between there. I haven't heard of anyone getting dairy back, but then I've been off it way longer than most people on here. Except for occasional butter, which I added about 2 years ago, and occasional raw goat cheese, I was very...

Eleven years ago I was told to avoid dairy, eggs, soy, wheat and several other things like beans, bananas, etc. I was told that after a few years I'd be able to add them back. It only took a few years and I was able to add everything back except dairy, eggs, soy and wheat. I discovered on my own that it was actually gluten, not just the wheat that I had...

I just got back from a week at Disney World and it was really a great place to be gluten-free. I ordered a double hamburger for the first time in 11 years! YUM! The manager even came out to ask if I wanted the bun toasted. I had great food at every lunch and dinner and didn't have a single problem. Every time I asked a server or person at the order...

My 14 yo daughter and I are off to Disney World early Sunday morning. It's the first time for both of us. She won her trip, along with her cousin and 2 friends, by taking part in a science-type contest. The national finals are in DW next week. I feel a little bad leaving my other 3 kids and hubby, but I really wanted to share the experience with my DD...

ARCHIVED Converting A Recipe To Gluten Free
lonewolf replied to sjust's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use brown rice flour instead of white rice flour in similar proportions to JennyC and Guhlia and always have good results. I have even given some to my mom and my sister-in-law and they've baked cookies and cakes and brownies with their regular recipes and have had no problems. -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Bipolar Spectrum
lonewolf replied to slpinsd's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow, this is really interesting. My dad was diagnosed with bipolar and a seizure disorder. He also had diabetes. Although there's no way to know for sure, I'm SURE he had Celiac. He ended up committing suicide by OD'ing on his medication. -
ARCHIVED Tooth Enamel Defects
lonewolf replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't have a Celiac diagnosis, but I'm definitely intolerant to gluten for whatever reason. I had horrible dental enamel problems when I was little. I had 12 cavities at one time and always had at least 3-4 every visit. My mom didn't allow me to drink much pop or eat much candy and I brushed my teeth exceptionally well. The dentist said it wasn't my... -
ARCHIVED We're Going To Disney World!
lonewolf replied to e&j0304's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
How funny! I'm going to be at Disney World the week of June 17th too! I'll be there with my daughter and 3 of her friends (they won a free trip for a science competition) and with the parents of one of my dd's friends. It will only be me to worry about for gluten-free food, so I'm not even stressing about calling ahead. I'm looking forward to actually... -
ARCHIVED Snacks That Travel Well
lonewolf replied to ADevoto's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I made it through security with a Swiss Army knife and my MIL was stopped because her underwire bra made the detector beep. (We were together.) I've never felt too confident of the security system anywhere after that. -
Thanks! My home computer is fine. I'll fix my work computer tomorrow.

I don't know if it's just my work computer or what, but the board is totally different today than it was yesterday. I was on at home yesterday and everything was "normal" - all posts in one thread in a nice long list, up to several pages long. Just now I logged in on my way out the door from work and it's different. I can't explain it - instead of long...

ARCHIVED Amusement Parks (six Flags New England)
lonewolf replied to bremac's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We have a Six Flags near us and we always bring our lunch in a cooler, leave it in the van, and have a tailgate party. The food inside is nasty and expensive anyway, so even my gluten eating kids would rather do this. -
ARCHIVED Happy Memorial Day
lonewolf replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I remember my Grandfather, Walter McNutt. He served in WWI, and survived. (Thankfully, or I wouldn't be here.) He was wounded and not expected to walk again. He eventually walked without a limp and was a source of inspiration. I know it's technically a day to remember those who lost their lives, but I still like to remember grandpa and the sacrifice... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
lonewolf replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Chris, you beat me back to the computer. I've been stewing about this thread since I read through it earlier. You were attacked for no reason. (Momma Goose, I feel, was attacked too.) You have ALWAYS been a good source of information. This thread wasn't really about if MFS was safe or not. RKB MD stated, "My first point, and real purpose of posting... -
ARCHIVED How You Choose Your Login Name
lonewolf replied to little d's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My family likes to play laser tag (kind of like paint ball without the pain) and this is the name I use for my "code name". Lisa - My youngest son has a name that can be either a boy's or girl's name. If you were to google him, he would come up as a porn star. This is how we ended up with strong parental controls and filters on our computer! -
Some of you regulars might remember that in January I took over the 5th grade band at my little school. (I'm a PE teacher, but I had some time in my schedule and I was the only one with time who can read music.) Well, here we are 4 months later and the kids have made great progress. They know (mostly) a concert B flat scale. They know whole, half, quarter...

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Vs. Gluten Intolerance
lonewolf replied to candi1008's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm one who hasn't been diagnosed with Celiac, and has been told that I can't have it because I don't have the right genes. When I look at the symptoms listed on this website, and the associated conditions, I have MANY of them. I had dental enamel defects as a child, have thyroid issues, had arthritis (totally cleared up after gluten-free/CF), have psoriasis...
