  1. I was curious as to how many doctors/hospitalizations (if any), etc did you have to go through to get diagnosed with sprue? Did anyone get so sick they were hospitalized and the doctors still could not figure it out?
  2. I had this pain for 4 months.. the docs told me they could not find anything wrong. I did my own research and have come to the conclusion that the pain was located inside my small intestine and was related to gluten ingestion. More specfically, that the pain was coming from the food not being able to be digested properly and was inadvertently "leaking" out...
  3. I do not eat eggs. They make me sick. I also do not drink milk - just lactaid. I do eat plain yogurt though and put gluten free corn flakes in them or fruit. Otherwise I do not eat anything with corn. I eat a lot of bananas. I thought bread would be a hard thing to give up but in actuality it is been easy. I try to think of people eating bread as only...
  4. I am actually seeing some improvements also. Generally speaking, I feel as if my head was lifted off of my glutened body and placed onto a non-gluten one. I no longer feel dizzy and lightheaded. I do have a slight hunchback and some back and bone pain but I feel "lighter" bodywise. It is amzing to me what a change of diet can do. Todaywas hard though...
  5. I got sick in August 2005 and got diagnosed in November 2005.
  6. I like Dannon Plain Yogurt and Stonyfield Farm Plain. That way I can add what I want - fruit, honey, etc
  7. I would love a piece of chocolate but unsure if any are gluten-free? Does anyone know if Cadbury or Hershey's Plain chocolate bars are gluten-free? Thank you.
  8. I take "Nature Made" supplements. They are gluten free and say so on the bottle.
  9. THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this thought. I am COMPLETELY paranoid about crumbs, kitchen sharing. I live alone but I am having GREAT difficulty with visitng my parents and eating from their gluten filled kitchen. They seem to try but really DO NOT understand that I am nuts about the gluten factor and making sure that they do not even eat bread at the dinner...
  10. I am finding myself very angry at having this disease and not being able to eat normal junk food, etc. Does anyone have a similar experience? I get so angry I get depressed. It is very frustrating
  11. Is Peanut Butter gluten-free? I bought a jar of Yum Yum Peanut Butter today. The only ingredient was Organic Peanuts. Wanted to be sure.. are any other brands gluten-free?
  12. Is Healthy Choice Popcorn Gluten Free?
  13. I want to know if any of these are gluten-free: Lifesavers JollyRanchers Lollipops Chewing Gum Sprite 7UP Ice Cream TicTacs Potato Chips - which brand? I am in NYC so if anyone else here knows what brand I can get out here That would be great Thanks -
  14. I had gone to Asia and came back with what was initially some acute infectious illness of unknown etiology. I was placed on antibiotics and got better but some other symptoms remained and lingered, namely, nausea, vomiting, fever and occassional diarrhea. The diarrhea went away for about a month. (This whole drama from start to diagnosis lasted 3 months)...
  15. I got my IgG and Transglutaminase levels reports My IgG was 40.6 with the normal reference range being between 0 - 29.9 My transglutaminase was 16.9 with the normal being lower tha 7.0 These seem quite high and wanted to know what others had?
  16. I have a bad taste in my mouth when I cough - it tastes and smells smoky? foul? -- bad! Has anyone with celiac experienced this? I am SCARED of all the symptoms I have with this disease
  17. I feel sick when I see gluten filled foods and I cannot believe I ate so horribly! I went to a staff Xmas party the other night and everyone there was pigging out on cake. I did not miss it at all. I just told myself "They are all going to get really fat with clogged arteries". That made me feel better. What is curious is how my friends feel "guilty"...
  18. I am actually losing a bit of weight since I have been on this diet and have decided to drink an Ensure - maybe two per day - one with breakfast and one with dinner. Each is about 350 calories and is gluten free Other than that I am not sure what to do about the pretty rapid weight loss. It is scary to me because I do not want to look like skin and bones...
  19. Where can I get a copy of this article? I would love to read it. Thank you
  20. I guess my question is: has anyone ever experienced malnourishment from being on this diet? How does one prevent that in the context of anorexia being a symptom of celiac, apart from eating lots and lots?
  21. I was wondering if anyone has experienced weight loss with Celiac? I have been on the gluten free diet for 1 month now and am not gaining weight with the foods I am eating. I am concerned about become malnourished since the diet seems to be a high protein diet but not really a putting on the pounds diet. Has anyone experienced anorexia as a symptom of the...

    ARCHIVED Long Term Follow Up?

I wanted to know what is considered to be the "norm" with respect to long term medical follow-up care of someone having celiac (like me). I was just diagnosed and wanted to know what is considered the standard for follow up blood work, endoscopy, etc etc. Thank you.
  23. Hi I am looking for some support. I am newly diagnosed x 1month and am having GREAT difficulty with accepting the illness, that I cannot eat what I want to eat when I want to eat, that I am not getting better fast enough, plus that my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and my father had a heart attack (in the middle of the doctors not knowing what my...
  24. I am newly diagnosed with sprue. I have to tell you for me was a bit different than most of the replies I have seen here. I went to Asia in August and picked up a virus over there. I came back to the states, got treated for the virus but sprue symptoms lingered. Basically I was asymptomatic with sprue for 30+ years until my recent return from Asia, when...
  25. I have just been diagnosed with Celiac Sprue (3 weeks ago). I wanted to know how quickly recovery can take? I have been feeling that I have a bit more energy but I still have some symptoms (diarrhea, muscle aches, abdominal pain etc) on a strict gluten free diet and wanted to know if this was normal? I feel feel that, in some respects, I am getting sicker...
