    ARCHIVED Nyc Nutritionist For Celiac

try the celiac disease center at columbia university
  3. I also think it is unknown because doctors dont look at celiac as a possible explanation for the symptoms. I had osteopenia 11 years ago and was diagnosed with that by my endocrinologist who said osteopenia could be caused by the thyroid medication I was taken and when it came up that I was osteopenic decided that the synthroid was the reason for that. 1...
  4. Has anyone ever been prescribed this by their GI doc? My doctor has prescribed this for me and I took one dose last night and feel super nausea today~
  5. I also have not gotten my periods in awhile and only get a withdrawl bleed on the pill. They just diagnosed me with premature ovarian failure, so you might want to check into if you have that.
  6. Why do you think he recommended a medic alert bracelet? Does anyone else on here wear one?
  7. I will be having my first official GI followup since last year when I first saw a GI doctor. This is a new doctor. What should I expect and what do I need to ask about? Thanks
  8. Yes this has been my experience also! Another surprising benefit for me has been the almost 100% elimination of my fatigue problem and my, as a result, subsequent, non-need to say to everyone I met "I am tired". I no longer say that phrase and it is been such a relief! I only started noticing this recently. It is great
  9. I do NOT risk it when it says "may contain traces of....." Only because I know what would happen if the traces would get into my system.. For me, it is not worth it.
  10. Are snickers candy and chewing gum gluten free? I have no idea. Thanks!
  11. Have you looked into "NATURE MADE" vitamins?
  12. Hi Where in India are you going? I have been there many many times. BUT I should note I have not been there since being forced to go gluten free. However, I am planning to go there in Jan but anticipate NO problems diet wise. You will be fine in terms of the diet.. lots of vegeterians, lots of rice based meals, lots of fruit and vegetables. Tell them what...

    ARCHIVED "the Trigger"

My trigger was an "acute infectious process of unknown etiology" following a trip to Asia in which I came back with high fever, was given antibiotics for one week, felt better for the week following, and subseuqently developed a plethora of intense symptoms (all the ones that one could possibly have). I also developed orthostatic hypotension (which, for me...
  14. Yes it is completely normal to have good days and bad days. It took me about 6 months after going gluten free cold turkey to feel even remotely better. Mosty I have had stomach pains on occasion and the D that sometimes pops its ugly head up. I also have had CT scans my md's have ordered to see if there is nothing else. Not uncommon, I think.
  15. Do I ever start to think this is in my head? Interesting question! I USED to think it was all in my head - prediagnosis. Not only did I think it was in my head, I would use self-validating statements to "justify" what I thought was the way I was supposed to feel (such as, "I have diarrhea because I am nervous about X" or "I cannot eat before I take a...
  16. Colace works for me. 2-3 about 1/2 hour after dinner time.
  17. I definitely had leaky gut before I was diagnosed. It was horrible feeling. It really feels like something is leaking inside of you.
  18. My anorexia was actually a symptom of the sprue and not "true" anorexia. You might want to look into whether or not you have celiac.
  19. When I got diagnosed, my father got tested right away and was negative. My mother has refused to get diagnosed and, in fact, told me the other day that she does NOT identify me as someone who has celiac (pretty unsupportive, huh?). I think her refusal to get diagnosed has to do with her own anxieties about food, illness, change, etc. But, in the meantime...
  20. Remember: you can only have one thought in your mind at one time. DOn;t forget to Breathe.
  21. It took me 6 months to feel better after I was forced to go gluten free. It was a horrile process. I consider myself to be "in recovery from gluten" with , of course, possibility of relapse. I am of the mindset that gluten is an addictive substance.
  22. Yes I have also put on weight. I am noticing that it is also very difficult to lose weight. I think because the diet is a high protein and high sugar diet. You have to be careful about your sugar intake on this diet as well. I think this diet might increase one's risk for diabetes, but I am not sure if any studies have been done on this. Just my thought as...
  23. The best advice that someone gave me was that "It gets better".
  24. Are Kosher dill pickles safe to eat? The jar said they had vingear in it but I am not sure. Please advise. Thank you
  25. Since starting on this diet I have become very - what's the word - obsessed - with what I eat. In fact I am so scared of having any type of intestinal reaction to anything even potentially contaminated with gluten. Right now this is my daily meal plan Morning: decaf tea and gluten free cereal or pamelas cookie Lunch: Brown rice with a vegetable, tomatoe...
