  1. A few months ago my brother's girlfriend and I had a big fight and we are no longer on speaking terms. I find her to be utterly immature (she's 19, he's 28), awkward, rude, and hurtful. The fight we had was over the importance of my children vs. material items. Obviously I feel as though my girls are far more important than a racecar. Anyway, I steer clear...
  2. WOW! You guys are FAST! These ideas sound SO good. I have some gluten free oats, but I'm afraid to try them. I've subbed quinoa in place of oats in other recipes and they've turned out beautifully. If it's a simple recipe, I'd love to see it. The more recipes I can look over, the better. Do you think this would keep overnight? I have...
  3. My daughter's class is having an apple celebration and since she has the biggest food restrictions I will be doing the baking. I need TWO really good recipes for apple dishes. I was thinking of doing apple pies and maybe an apple cake??? I'm not sure. Also, any shortcuts like gluten free and tree nut free pie filling would be excellent. I have to have these...
  4. I have two daughters. My 4 year old, Tori, is gluten intolerant at the least. She is currently gluten free and thriving. We treat her as though she has Celiac just to be safe since she is double DQ-2 and symptomatic. The pet is for her preschool classroom. She has no other allergies/intolerances that we know of. My other daughter, Annika, has multiple...
  5. My daughter's preschool is getting a pet for the classroom. They are doing fish first and I'm going to be making gluten free fish food so my daughter can be the "vet" (the one who feeds them). After the fish they are planning on getting another pet and they have asked me for my input so that perhaps it can also eat gluten free. Any suggestions? It has to...
  6. I met with Tori's preschool teachers last week and they were more receptive than I ever could have hoped for. 3/4 of them have had experience with Celiac or major allergies through a famiy member or friend. Her primary teacher was even suggesting ways we could keep her safe and bringing up things that could cause a problem that I probably wouldn't have even...
  7. It looks like perhaps we're in the clear! No reaction! Happy day! I'm so excited.
  8. What/where is Pizza Pizza?
  9. 20 hours after eating one and NO reaction whatsoever thus far. I am hopeful. This seems relatively promising. When she first started eating she was reacting to every new food we gave her, so this is truly wonderful news for us.
  10. I DID IT!!! I managed to make cupcakes that are gluten/casein/soy/corn/rice/egg/nut/apple FREE!!! They're moist and delicious and I can hardly believe it! I had to make my own powdered sugar for the icing which didn't get as finely ground as I would've liked, but it was still very good. I can't wait for Annika to try them. Now I'm just praying she doesn't...
  11. Thanks guys! I can't believe how big she's getting either. It seems like just yesterday that I was pregnant with her and Tori was my little one. It all just goes entirely too quickly. This is our last so I am hanging onto every moment.
  12. For those of you that remember our struggle with little Annika's rash and hives, I have some GREAT news. We have finally narrowed it down to four allergies. Milk gives her hives almost immediately. Rice and apples give her a rash, though it seems to take between 2 and 4 days. Corn gives her hives, but seemingly not immediately which is part of what was causing...
  13. I know this has been discussed at length over and over again, but I noticed that there are A LOT of newbies lately, so I wanted to post this. I have been trying different play doh recipes to make a good gluten free one that rivals the real stuff. I finally found one and it really feels, looks, and works like the real thing!!! I'm so excited I could cry. My...
  14. I wanted to add that Annika is two days into a soy challenge and doing GREAT. No reaction thus far. Before her reaction to soy was immediate, so it looks promising at this point. This means that I will likely be able to make her a REAL cake with soy flour (if I can find it).
  15. I wanted to add that last night I let Annika have a few dairy/gluten free chocolate chips and no reaction thus far. I will give her a few more today and see what happens. I'm thinking that I may just make her sweet potato with brown sugar and color it with cocoa so that it looks like chocolate cake for pictures. Then I'll just whip up some frosting with homemade...
  16. Thus far the only things we know for absolute sure to be safe are: sweet potato, broccolli, spinach, squash, carrot, green bean, peaches, apricots, pear, pineapple, banana, beef, chicken, turkey... I know, not a very promising list. I'm willing to take some minimal risk for her cake. She has never had a major reaction, just a rash usually if we give her an...
  17. You guys are absolutely wonderful! I will spend this week experimenting. Perhaps I will talk to her pediatrician on Tuesday about introducing egg. She wants us to wait on most of the high allergenic foods since she has so many allergies, but I'll see what she says. Either way I have some egg replacer on hand from when I was on the elimination diet while nursing...
  18. We haven't yet tried tapioca. White potato MAY or may not give her hives. We're not sure. She has so many restrictions and even more uncertainties.
  19. Ha ha ha. Ok. I was just curious because I just talked to someone who referred to herself as crunchymamma about Celiac. It was in a Nursery Water discussion. lol. I just wondered if this was the same woman.
  20. What about using perler beads? They're probably exactly the right size and the holes are large enough for a 3 year old to string relatively easily.
  21. I guess I should've mentioned before that thus far she's reacted to every single grain I've given her. We haven't tried soy flour yet (she had a violent reaction to soy formula anyway) and I don't have any way to get quinoa floua before this weekend. It almost seems as though she reacts poorly to everything we feed her. Any clue what I could sub for the rice...
  22. My baby is turning 1 in a week and I'd like to make her something that at least looks like a birthday cake for her party. I know I won't be able to make her a real cake with all of her restrictions. Does anyone have any idea what I could make that looks like a cake? I thought about doing sweet potato with brown sugar in a cupcake paper, but I don't know what...
  23. I think your best bet is to call ahead and ask to speak to chefs at several of the places that you are thinking of attending. They'll be able to give you a good idea of how well they'll be able to accomodate you. Also, all Disney restaurants in the parks have ingredient lists for every item. I imagine that you'll be able to find food. I've only been gluten...
  24. I used to eat the snack sized one (just corn chips, cheese, and salsa) with no problems. It's a Kraft product and they will always list wheat, barley, rye, and oats on the label.
