  1. Since medical insurance is not affected directly by celiac disease on an ongoing basis (i.e. medication, medical devices, daily monitoring, home care nursing, etc), I rather doubt anyone would be denied a policy for having it as a pre-existing condition. I’ve certainly never been and I have two pre-existing conditions that are managed with diet alone and b...
  2. It is illogical not to disclose a positive celiac disease finding to your doctor, particularly if you're 60 years old. Human beings generally begin failing in one form or another from 60 onward and you might find yourself as an in-patient in a hospital or at an emergency room. Drugs often have minute amounts of gluten and hospital and nursing home food certainly...
  3. Umm...meh. Under the "Tips for a Safe...", #6 should be #1. If a cruiseline bombs out on the research, 2-6 become irrelevant. That notwithstanding, how is Princess any different from any other cruise line if you have to follow stated tips 1-5 if they manage to pass #6? You'd do the same everywhere else. I should say, I would. For the ...
  4. A year later, I can say (1) I've sailed around in the BVIs now twice since my original posting on this subject and found several restaurants that were safe for me. I was happy to see most of the larger restaurants had at least someone who could answer questions if no mention was made in the menus. And (2) I was sad to see that none of the bars or restaurants...
  5. Thanks, and I'm excited about it. I just hope I get some interest in it here and quickly. I'm planning on trying to go to contract soon with BVI Yacht Charters in Tortola, whom I've contracted with before.
  6. Great! Just what I was looking for. Thanks, Scott.
  7. Okay. That doesn't answer the question, but thanks anyway.
  8. Greetings! I would love to get a group going with fellow sailors with celiac disease who would be interested in chartering a sailing yacht down in the Caribbean perhaps a few times a year. Most likely in the US and/or British Virgin Islands, though other islands may also be considered. Doesn't have to be the same people and doesn't have to be only...
  9. Greetings! I'd like to post a request for interest in an event I'd like to set up. But before I do, I'm wondering what the rules for posting in the forum are. Is there somewhere on this site where the rules for posting in the forum or in meetup groups are located? Thanks in advance.
  10. I don't see Electrolit on your list, though I have not seen any gluten ingredients on it and they label it as gluten-free. Is there a reason apart from it might've been overlooked?
  11. Why it’s been taking so long for the US to test at this age is a mystery to me. Italy, in comparison, a country known as the largest consumer of wheat pasta in the world, has been testing at infancy for years. Most restaurants have gluten-free pasta. It’s probably one of the safest countries for people with celiac disease to eat in public without concern. In...
  12. Greetings, all. Has anyone had recent experience traveling and eating at restaurants in the BVIs? Doing a search online locates only forums and reviews that are 5 years old or older, which, as we all know, is pretty useless. I've gone to the websites of most restaurants, resorts, and yacht clubs in each of the islands I might be traveling to in order to check...
