For those of you who experience the neurological side of symptoms, please respond. I had a bad night last night. I fell asleep twitching and woke up to an even greater degree of twitching. it was almost a full blown episode. I so sick, tired, and frustrated at this sometimes I can hardly think straight. During the episode, my brain had slowed down far...

I found out that the fast food place on the way home has a separate vat of oil for their French fries. It is not used for anything but the French fries. Might stop there on the way home.

Does anyone find it frustrating when co-workers bring in goodies you are not able to have? Drives me nuts. The staff had a pizza party for lunch break today, donuts included. Knowing the consequences of ingesting gluten seriously outweighs the temptation to snitch even a corner off a donut. GGGRRRRR!!!! Ok. I am done whining. Back to real life....

ARCHIVED peanut and nut butters? suggestions?
cstark replied to Mnoosh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Like kareng said, it really doesn't matter, but I still look at the ingredients on the label by habit now. It may not have specifically the glutened grain products, but another sneaky ingredient I have found is maltodextrin, unless it specifically states it is made from corn. -
I live with my parent and brother who are not needing to be gluten free. So, yes working in a gluten kitchen can get interesting at times. As for the de-gluttoning the fridge, I second the poster who stated the real risk is getting gluttoned with the condiments. I have my own peanut butter and toaster for this reason. For the leftovers, we put masking...

I think it really depends where the symptoms are originating. For me, my symptoms are more neurological than digestive. When I catch myself going into an episode, I put the Frankincense at the back of the neck it meets my head. There's a small notch back there, so it's always easy for me to find. I have the oil in a roller ball now so if my family sees...

ARCHIVED Birthday and Food related depression/anxiety
cstark replied to Scormier44's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Been there, done that. No fun! And you are right, one can only eat so much salad before their nose starts twitching and they start to hop. Sorry, for the sad humor. Anyway, most of the restaurants in town have their own websites so I started to research to see if they have a gluten free menu available. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that... -
GFAF Event - Greensboro NC
cstark commented on Scott Adams's event in Gluten-Free Community Calendar
Is there any way to have an event like this in the northeastern part of North Dakota? It would be great if this could happen. -
Thanks to the person who suggested the restaurant cards when going out to eat. I should have used mine the other night when my family went to Red Lobster. Thinking it was cross-contamination d/t waiter not quite understanding the seriousness of the situation. Praise the Lord I had the Frankincense on hand or things would have turned completely different...

ARCHIVED Does internal damage need to mend before neuropathy symptoms ease?
cstark replied to SueMD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey, Sue. I am not for certain if the sensations you are feeling in fingers/toes are connected to celiac. However, nerves take a lot longer to heal than other organs of the body, mainly because they don't have any blood supply to promote healing. Before I went of gluten, I was so off balance and vision field was so screwed up I was literally bumping into... -

ARCHIVED reactions to coffee or coffee based drinks??
cstark replied to Megan16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It isn't the coffee that is the trigger, it's the caffeine because it is a stimulant. it's just like when a car reves up, everything in the engine goes faster. It's the same concept. With a stimulant in the body, the body works faster and thus whatever is causing a reaction in the body, like gluten, comes on faster and symptoms can seem more severe. -
ARCHIVED reactions to coffee or coffee based drinks??
cstark replied to Megan16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The caffeine in the coffee flavored drinks acts as a stimulant which means it sets the body into a "hyper" mode. This is why it's so effective for staying awake when you are tired. I know for me if I have too much of it at one time, I start to get really jittery. I completely cut off any coffee or caffeine when I went off gluten because the caffeine content... -
ARCHIVED Coping with Celiacs
cstark replied to glutenfreegirlfriend's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
He may want to think about cutting out the soda for a while as well because the high fructose corn syrup does a real number on the body. High fructose corn syrup is highly toxic and destroys the body's systems. Feel free to research on it. It's nasty stuff. As to the loss of appetite, sometimes food does not sound appealing to me. A lot times it...- 20 replies

Panic attacks was a BIG thing for me before going gluten free. Even worse is I had them when I would be totally relaxed, which means I would have them at church. Talk about distractions. This has not happened anymore since beginning of this year now, for which I am extremely grateful.

ARCHIVED Bicycling and Hiking
cstark replied to gjmama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I a little nervous myself when I went camping for the first time since going gluten free. Fortunately, my nephew was still pretty young to have table food yet being 7 mos. old. however, when making meals, we made the mistake once of making their toast and then making eggs for the whole family on the same skillet. Not the greatest idea, but hey I learned... -
Thanks for the input. helps when you know you aren't the only experiencing these wide spectrum of symptoms. other than eating cashews, I guess I'm not completely nuts.

After an episode, has anyone experienced depression? It was not pleasant and the episode came on so suddenly. The depression lasted for only 24 hours thank goodness, but I did not feel like myself during that time. Yuck! And if anyone responds, what did you do about it? I am not a fan of taking antidepressants.

ARCHIVED Coping with Celiacs
cstark replied to glutenfreegirlfriend's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When my mom and myself figured out it was mostly gluten that was making me go into "my" episodes, my mom decided it was time to go cold turkey for a few months to see how it goes. Between November-mid-January, I cut out all sugars, diary, and caffeine, even chocolate which was hard. I felt like a rabbit eating only veggies and meat during this time. I...- 20 replies

It will take some time for your daughter to be free of the gluten she has ingested before the diagnosis. I had to go gluten free in Oct. of 2015 and still am having some symptoms of being glutened, though they have lessened over the past year. I look forward to the time I have symptoms only when being accidentally glutened. It is frustrating when you...

My family was out camping earlier this month to our favorite lake. They have a restaurant there we have going to for years. Since I recently went gluten free, I was very nervous about trying out their menu. Usually, restaurants have a select few items you can choose from that are considered "gluten-free" (i.e. Olive Garden). However, this restaurant even...

I do understand that when your world all of the sudden turns upside down inside out, and you don't know where to turn. However, I do strongly suggest making an appt. to see your primary MD to see if there are any underlying issues whether it be completely from gluten or whether there is another trigger somewhere that has just come up. For me right now,...

ARCHIVED Anything else to promote healing?
cstark replied to cstark's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the input. From onset of symptoms to now has been somewhat crazy. it's been almost a year now since needing to go gluten free. Looking back, I would say symptoms have improved. Still having episodes, but less frequent now which is a major praise. Maybe sometime I will share my story. Appreciate the support from this website. -
ARCHIVED Anything else to promote healing?
cstark replied to cstark's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was given a diet protocol by a NP who specialized in marrying natural treatments with medicine. I did find that I had more energy and felt better when on the diet. Unfortunately, I started to introduce the "illegal" gluten-free foods. Thanks for the reminder. I think I need to get back on it.
