  1. This is so funny that I came across this post because just yesterday I was talking to my friend's mom who has been a girl-scout leader for about 2 decades, and she was telling me that every single year, she has at least 1 girl in her troop with a gluten intolerance and she has to be super careful when planning meals. There have to be a ton of girl scouts...
  2. Water based = ok to use with condoms oil/petroleum based = not ok to use with condoms Hope that helps! I'd wish you luck, but that seems a little too personal
  3. Wow, thanks for all of your responses! I was just kind of grabbing at straws, but it seems like maybe there is a connection!?! Last night I literally got up to pee 5 times to pee within an hour and a half period. And I was incredibly hyper. (Needless to say, I didn't get a great night's sleep last night.) Based on your answers, and even though I didn...
  4. I've noticed this too! I still occasionally gorge myself (ie: when super tired or sad) but I feel like vomiting afterwards! I think it's my body's way of telling me not to blow it! My diet has become so much more healthy than it was before, so I think now I notice the effects of the bad stuff more. I had the same reaction when I ate too many...
  5. Ok weird question for everyone. I used to pee constantly. I'm not even kidding you when I tell you that my friends in college called me "the urinator." Now that I'm gluten free, I pee sooooo much less frequently! I can get through the workday only peeing twice, whereas it used to be like 7 or 8 times a day! Except when I get glutened. Then I get...
  6. I'm pretty new to this, so I obviously can't speak for everyone, but here's my deal: I lost weight pre "diagnosis." Gained weight after going gluten-free, but only because it was during the holidays and I was focusing on everything I couldn't eat and not all the things that I can, and basically gorged myself on chocolate because it was the only thing...
  7. Has anyone else found that their hair is thinning??? I used to have a huge BUSH on my head, but now it's become very flat and limp. I'm pretty conviced that my hair is starving...
  8. Prunes (if you can put up with all of the jokes!) and dried apricots are wonderful. Despite their reputation, I actually think prunes are pretty tasty. I add raisins to all of my cereal, because corn and rice based cereals have pretty much zero fiber. Also, Mary's Gone Crakers seem to go right through me! Anyone else experience this??
  9. Thanks!! I checked the website, but that was incredibly UNinformative. And I didn't want to call from work and broadcast my personal business to my co-workers. (Don't you HATE people like that!) I love this forum! I often get an answer quicker that if I tried to research something myself. You guys are so knowledgeable and generous with your information...
  10. Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows if birth control pills are gluten free. Specifically, Yasmin pills. If they are not, does anyone have any other recommendations? Thanks for your help! -Al
  11. Wow, thanks for your replies! I actually went to Italy last year before I was diagnosed. It was amazing, but I felt like crap the whole time. I guess croissants every breakfast, panini every lunch and pasta every dinner will do that to us! I think I'm the only person who has ever gone to Italy and LOST a ton of weight instead of gaining! Anyone have...
  12. I'm planning a trip to Europe later this year. Not sure where I'm going yet. Airfare is a huge factor, so is speaking the language! Considering Amsterdam, London, Barcelona, etc. Anyone have any tips on traveling to a foreign country? I obviously can't bring all of my meals for two weeks! Help!!
  13. I can't believe nobody has mentioned Puffins! I love Puffins! The honey rice ones are my favorite (although they will never replace Cheerios or Shredded Wheat...) The honey rice ones have less fiber than the regular ones, so I usually mix them half and half. I add raisins too!! I just bought the Enjoy Life "granola" today too and I thought it was...
  14. Hi! Just went gluten free within the past few months and am struggling with going out to eat. We have tons of good grocery stores here - Wegmans, Lexington Co-op, et al, but I have been afraid to go out to eat. It's gotten to the point where I am breaking off social engagements with friends and my boyfriend is beginning to resent me because we never go...
  15. Hi all. I've just stumbled across this message board after being (mostly, hopefully) gluten free for about 6 weeks. I'm wondering if we are more sensitive to the effects of gluten after we have not been consuming it as much. The reason I ask is this. My doctor and I decided to try eliminating gluten from my diet before trying anything else. She suggested...
