  1. Thanks for posting this! I was curious myself but too darn lazy to do the research! So I had a candy heart-less Valentine's Day! Oh well, I probably didn't need the sugar anyway...
  2. I've heard horror stories about Quaker products being cross contaminated, so I won't go near them. Also, if they made you bloated, you might be reacting to the soy, not to a possible cross contamination. I get really bloated and gassy from soy, so I have to avoid it.
  3. I eat wraps made with corn tortillas a lot. I eat turkey wraps, but you could make them with salad mix and a little dressing? Maybe some avocado? Rice or corn cakes with peanut butter are always good too - extra protein! I eat brown rice and steamed veggies with a little wheat-free soy sauce sometimes too. Does she have access to a microwave? Amy...
  4. Anyone have any good relaxation techniques? I've been having a heck of a time sleeping lately... I've tried relaxing each muscle group, deep breathing, turning my clock away. Nothing works! Any other thoughts?
  5. I have the same problem!! Sometimes I feel kind of icky and don't really feel like eating. But I think NOT eating actually makes me feel worse. I get incredibly nauseous and dizzy if I skip meals. Now I try and eat something small, at least some applesauce or something. Of course, I'm gaining weight now! But I still think it's better than feeling...
  6. Never could tolerate caffeine. I get shaky, dizzy, headachey, abdominal pains and D. Doesn't matter if it's from coffee, tea, soda... I believe it's a combination of IBS and just plain old low tolerance that gives me the side effects. Probably, if I forced myself to down coffee every day, the symptoms would not be as bad. I feel like a teetotaler...
  7. I'm traveling there for the first time in June - am SO excited but nervous because this will be the first vacation since being gluten free. Anybody familiar with the area? Any good restaurants or health food stores around? My hotel room does not have a toaster, microwave, or refrigerator, so I'm planning on bringing lots of rice cakes, peanut butter...
  8. Tell us about Finland, please
  9. Ditto on the gas and painful bloating. I always assumed it's because soy products are made from beans that I had that reaction. Then my doctor was like duh, your body is trying to tell you something. So now I avoid the soy. It's a total bummer because I used to enjoy decaf soy lattes at Starbucks and now I pretty much can't drink anything...
  10. The granola is TERRIBLE. Worse than cardboard. Just my two cents.
  11. Some ice creams do have gluten in them as a binder - they will usually say "wheat starch" or "modified food starch" Some ice creams are ok. Breyer's is all natural and is only milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla or whatever. Good luck!!
  12. I'm confused about this whole DH thing. I had bad excema as a child - oozy, p%$#@# blisters all over my hands and feet. Still occasionally get that on my feet in the summer when my feet sweat. I don't think that's the same thing as DH and I'm not sure it's diet-related. My celiac symptoms were all stomach/digestion related, not skin related. However...
  13. I hear ya - it's frustrating to pack a lunch every single morning! Usually I just sit at my desk to eat and avoid the cafeteria and all of the comments about the weird food I eat. Yes, sometimes I eat cream of rice for lunch. Yes, I eat a lot of fruit. Yes, my "sandwiches" are on little corn tortillas. This Wednesday I have a lunch meeting. Pizza and...
  14. Hi Nini, If you don't mind, could you send that list to me as well? alyson.miller@hotmail.com. Thank you SO much!!
  15. Re: Training yourself to go to the bathroom in the morning - Just sit there. Until you go. Even if it takes 20 minutes. Every day. Until it becomes natural to go after breakfast. You're right, this is kind of an embarassing topic, but I had to train myself to do this in college because otherwise I'd literally never find time to go. And then all of a...
  16. I second that. I've done my comparison shopping and Wegmans prices are consistently lower than the health food stores around me for all but a few things. Stock up, load up your freezer when things are on sale. All of Wegmans store brand products are labeled with a "G" if they are gluten free which is really helpful for things like yogurt and sauces which...
  17. What a jerk! Because it's SO much extra work to make a sandwich on lettuce than it is on bread! What was your reaction to that??
  18. I'm all about the nuts and seeds. And peanut butter. And Nutella. And Envirokids animal crackers. WGibs, I think we would make fantastic friends. To bad we live on opposite sides of the country and can't get together for a snack!
  19. Where do you guys find Bumble Bars? I can't find them anywhere around me. Lara bars are quite tasty though!
  20. Sorry. I shop at Wegmans. I think they're only in NY and PA. They're very aware of food sensitivities and even before the new labeling law would label things as lactose free, gluten free, vegan, etc. If you're ever in the area, check them out!
  21. Rice cheese is yummy. I found it at our local Co-op. However it has casein in it, so watch out if you're casein intolerant.
  22. It might be lactose intolerance, but those symptoms sound exactly like mine when I'm glutened. Have you verified that your turkey is gluten free? Many have crap added to them. When dairy bothers me (I'm lactose intolerant, not casein intolerant, I believe) I don't get symptoms until the next day. Hope you're feeling better soon!
  23. It's ok to be proud. But you need to share the recipe. Otherwise you're just a braggart
  24. Sorry I can't answer all of your questions...I'm fairly new to this myself! Please please please check those yogurt labels carefully. Some are ok, but I learned the hard way that some brands and some flavors do contain wheat starch. I've heard that Yoplait is ok, but I can't confirm that. My local grocery store labels all of their store brand products...
  25. I haven't been told by my doctor to avoid alcohol (although she also told me that most regular cereals were probably ok...), but I'm wondering if it's a good idea while my insides are getting better. I was never ever a big drinker, but I could definitely drink more in college than I can now. Now, one drink and I'm either immediately asleep or doubled...
