  1. Has anyone tried the crackers? I've looked at them several times, but I was so disappointed with the Ener-G crackers that I was hesitant to try them...
  2. Food4Celiacs is under construction and you can't browse the store right now! Does anyone know anywhere else we can order Annie's packets from??
  3. Very hard cheeses (ie Parmesan and cheddar) contain very little lactose (next to none), so manufacturers are allowed to put 0g lactose on them. I have been lactose intolerant for years and cannot have regular milk or ice cream, even with Lactaid pills. However, small amounts of hard cheese are fine with me. I also can eat Romano (sheeps) cheese with...
  4. Did you put cheese or anything different in the eggs? Is it possible it's a reaction to dairy and not eggs?
  5. I have the same problem. I can handle eggs in say, muffins or cookies, but I absolutely cannot eat cooked eggs by themselves. I get intensely queasy... It's a shame because I enjoy them and they're a good source of protein if (like me) your meat intake is very limited. Has anybody tried Egg Beaters or the like? This may be a dumb question, I'm not...
  6. Does anybody have a good corned beef and cabbage recipe? I very very rarely eat red meat, but my Guiness-drinking Irish boyfriend really wants corned beef and cabbage on Friday and I have no clue how to cook it! I figure he eats gluten free dinners with me quite frequently (even eating cheeseless Chebe pizza instead of regular pizza!) so the least I can...
  7. Just wanted to let everybody know that Arrowhead Mills makes a gluten free chocolate chip cookie mix that is surprisingly really really good! I bought it on a lark because it was on sale at my regular grocery store (!) even though I never bought baking mixes in my pre-gluten free days. Anyway, I was craving something sweet yesterday so I mixed...
  8. I second that Pamela's cookies are AWESOME. I also made cookies from a mix yesterday, which I NEVER would have done in my pre-gluten free days. They were gluten free chocolate chip cookies from Arrowhead Mills and surprisingly they were really really good. My snacks are often rice cakes (Lundberg, not Quaker) with peanut butter. I eat my turkey sandwiches...
  9. Hi. For those who were once lactose intolerant but can now tolerate it nicely, how long did it take? I was lactose intolerant for years before diagnosis but it seems to be getting a bit better on the gluten-free diet. I can now tolerate yogurt daily (YAY!) and small amounts of hard cheese. I've been gluten free for about 4 months now, so the other...
  10. I too have used the Hodgson Mill with no ill effects. Good luck!
  11. So I'm at work. I'm crampy and bloated and downright miserable and it's occurred to me that this is exactly what it feels like when I get glutened. Tylenol isn't doing jack for the pain. And anything stronger (ie: Ibuprofen) destroys my stomach. Can't micro the corn bag at work because that would just be embarassing... Anybody have any suggestions...
  12. Wow. Thank you so much! I was in the grocery store last night looking at the Starburst jelly beans because I thought I had read that they were gluten free, but the modified food starch scared me off. I just bought some Peeps and called it a night You've eaten them with no ill effects? Jelly beans are my absolute favorite candy of all time...
  13. Does anybody know of any jelly beans other than Jelly Bellys that are gluten free? Every brand I've looked at contains modified food starch. Love the Jelly Bellys but they're so darned expensive!
  14. Wegman's sells their own brand of cold cuts pre-sliced in those little plastic containers and they are clearly marked gluten free. I've never had a problem with them. Sorry you're not feeling so well!!
  15. What kind of deranged person buys beer for a 14 year old? Seriously...
  16. I have the same pain. I don't have any insight except that maybe it's not our kidneys but our intestines? They wrap around all over the place, so maybe it's that? But I can sympathize. The right side of my back pretty much always aches...
  17. Did you guys know that Perky's makes Nutty Flax in addition to Nutty Rice?? It's so yummy! And so much protein and fiber for a gluten-free cereal! This is the greatest day!!!
  18. I agree, the Food for Life breads are awful. I got through about half a loaf then couldn't take any more, so I pitched it in the trash. I haven't found any good sandwich breads at all, but Glutino's cinnamon raisin bread is nice toasted with peanut butter on it. I had some Sterk's bread toasted last night with tuna on it and even that was terrible...
  19. That brings up a good point - I've found that I can tolerate Romano cheese quite well. It is my understanding that only cow's milk has lactose in it, so sheep's milk is A-Ok.
  20. Jeez, I was really bummed when I thought I couldn't eat them anymore because they were so good! But now I'm really stumped! I also had Blue Diamond Chocolate Almond milk for the first time. That's supposed to be gluten free too. Anyone have a reaction to that? I think those were the only 2 new foods I tried this weekend...
  21. Bought these cracker this weekend. Loved them. Then got sick as a freakin dog. What's the deal? Anybody know the story - is there a cross contamination issue here?
  22. I've had a cheese called Rice Slice or something like that. It's lactose free and soy free, but it does have casein in it. I have problems with lactose and soy, but I was ok with that cheese. Unfortunately, however, it's not the greatest cheese substitute. For pizza, I use pesto instead of red sauce and lots of veggies. I swear, it's so tasty you...
  23. Same deal - I crave chocolate like it's my job since I've been gluten free. I was completely ambivalent about it before. Honestly, I think it's the fat that my body is craving. My boyfriend tells me I'm nuts, but I also crave vegetables sometimes. I say, listen to your body!
  24. Real Foods' Corn Thins are much better than rice cakes. Good with peanut butter, jam, turkey and veggies, just about anything. Yum
  25. No carbonation. No dairy. And I can't fart at work. I just can't. Anybody tried Beano, GasX, or the like? It's frustrating. I don't even want my boyfriend to touch me by the end of the day because I just feel so fat and bloated. Grr.
