I'm wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this. I hope so, because I don't want to think that I'm crazy... Every afternoon at work I get bloated like a third-world child and I get gas pains. Bad ones. It happens whether I eat a little food or a lot, beans, raw fruit, or just cereal. I'm absolutely certain that I'm not getting glutened and I never...

ARCHIVED Kraft Foods
GlutenFreeAl replied to sparkles's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ok, call me crazy, but that still makes me nervous. I had heard that Kraft barbeque sauce is gluten free, went to buy some last night, and don't you know one of the ingredients is modified food starch! If it's corn starch, why can't they just come out and say it? I got scared and didn't buy it, but I'd kill for barbeque sauce! Plain chicken is so... -
If you feel like dealing with Border Patrol, come down into the states and go to Wegmans (www.wegmans.com) or Feel Rite. Both are good sources of gluten free foods. There is a Wegman's in Niagara Falls (on the US side, but I'm not sure how good it is - they don't all carry the same products). In Amherst, (not far from NF) there is a good Wegman's and...

ARCHIVED Cipro
GlutenFreeAl replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is my understanding that all antibiotics can cause yeast infections since they kill ALL bacteria in the body, including good bacteria that is supposed to be there. My mom (the nurse) has always told me to eat lots of yogurt when taking antibiotics to avoid yeast infections. I seem to always get them anyway... -
ARCHIVED Just A Funny Story

I wanted to share this with someone who could appreciate it... So last night I was rummaging around in my kitchen cupboard for some chocolate chips I had hidden away for when I had a sweet craving. And you know what I found? A box of gluten! A whole box of it just open in my cupboard! Argh! My mom gave my boyfriend her bread machine about a year... -
ARCHIVED Why Does The Bread Turn To Rubber?

Pretty much, our bread just blows. Try making some gluten free corn muffins. That's my favorite medium for jam -
ARCHIVED "red Robin" In Exton Pa--outstanding Resturant Experience
GlutenFreeAl replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
You know what? Your experience really reassures me. And give me hope. I agree, out society is incredibly litigious and sue-happy. I don't think that lawsuits against McDonald's will help our cause at all. If anything, it will just discourage restaurants from labeling things gluten free to avoid a lawsuit. Let's focus on the positive!!! (Wow, was that... -
No stay far far away from Quaker products. Super high risk of cross contamination. I get Lundberg rice cakes or corn cakes by a company called Real Foods. See what you can find in your local health food store.

Pilates is absolutely the BEST non-aerobic workout! If you're worried about looking like a klutz, pick up a DVD and try it at home first. You can get them for $10 to $15 at Target or someplace. Classes are nice though, if you have a decent instructor who's willing to help you get the breathing down. I think that's the toughest part.

Oh dear. Have been diagnosed with a UTI. I guess that explains the not-sleeping-because-I'm-up-peeing-all-night garbage that's been going on lately. My doctor is giving me Cipro and I explained to the nurse that ALL medications bother my stomach and a nice mild antibiotic would be nice. The nurse said that Cipro is in the same family as amoxicillan and...

ARCHIVED Eliminating Dairy
GlutenFreeAl replied to acousticmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My personal theory is that it cannot hurt to give up the dairy. I don't have anything concrete to back that up except that dairy is hard for most people to digest. We are the only animals that consume milk beyond infancy and it causes digestive problems for many people. I know that giving up gluten is hard and giving up one more major food group seems... -
ARCHIVED Mi-del's
GlutenFreeAl replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The gluten free pecan ones. I've eaten them in the past with no problem, but I'm wondering if this bag is bad because I've had problems since last week when I opened it. I threw them out. Funny how I used to freak out about wasting food, but now I'm so quick to throw things out if it's gross or if it bothers my stomach... -
ARCHIVED Mi-del's
GlutenFreeAl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anyone had a bad experience with Mi-Del cookies? Lately I've been coming home from work every day with a bloated, painful belly and couldn't figure out why. I thought maybe it was the raw fruits and veggies I was eating. So today I felt fine, ate 2 Mi-Del's and BAM now I'm all bloated and my tummy hurts! So I read the bag and they process wheat... -

The Envirokids animal crackers are AWESOME. The EnerG crackers are pretty good too. Kind of like a Saltine, only a bit heavier. Good luck!!! -
ARCHIVED Binge Eating - gluten-free Just Over 3 Weeks
GlutenFreeAl replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know what? I do this too. And I know that it's totally psychological and emotional and yet I do it anyway. It really bothers me that anybody else can eat whenever they are hungry and eat whatever they want and I can't do that. I can't go grab takeout for dinner after a 12 hour workday, I have to go home and cook myself something. So when I feel... -
ARCHIVED Corn Tortilla (?)
GlutenFreeAl replied to jaten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use a brand called Mexamerica because my grocery store does not carry Mission brand tortillas. The Mexamerica ones do not have a super strong corn-y flavor that some have complained about with the Mission tortillas. Sorry you're having such a hard time...Have you checked all of your fillings carefully? Processed meats can have gluten in them. Or perhaps... -

ARCHIVED White Rice Flours Instead Of...
GlutenFreeAl replied to gointribal's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've tried it. It seemed to work fine in muffins, especially in my pumpkin muffins since the pumpkin holds it all together. I also made cranberry orange muffins and corn muffins with white rice flour. Both tasted fine but looked a little different because the flour is so pale. I did add some Xanthan Gum as a binder. I haven't tried cookies yet...I'm curious... -

GlutenFreeAl replied to 11111's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can also buy it dry and mix it yourself - it's much cheaper that way! I guess you're probably looking for convenience with college students, but I think you just add oil and an egg... Just a thought!
