  1. Welcome! Your story sounds a lot like ours! Our ds was diagnosed around 18 months old. He is 2 and a half now. Keep him gluten free. We had the itching, night problems, etc. Sounds like the same thing! The symptoms all come back if he gets gluten. There is a lot of support here! Ask whatever you need to and we will all try to help!
  2. My understanding was that the concern over paper towels was children playing with the rolls, using them for crafts, etc. and then putting their hands in their mouth (as my children do). I checked the Bounty (ditto above), and they don't even use gluten in the adhesive that sticks it to the roll. Safe.
  3. I have been ordering bouillon from gluten-free Trading Co. Someone mentioned McCormicks on another post. Does anyone know if it is gluten-free? Someone told me when we first went gluten-free that broth (in the can) and bouillon were things you needed to buy specifically marked gluten-free. I don't know why and I don't know why I never questioned it before...
  4. Ditto. We had the biopsy done with our toddler son. The Doctor even wanted to do another one three months later to see if it was better?! The biopsy day was traumatic for our son and us. Then we went to the University hospital. He (the new Doctor) did look at the slides from the procedure since it had already been done, but he said we didn't need another...
  5. Used the gluten-free Pantry old-fashioned cake and cookie mix this morning - the cake recipe. It was very good! We made the cream cheese icing from my earlier post above and mixed in 5oz. of melted choc. chips and 3 T. coffee. The icing was heavenly and the cupcakes turned out great! Thanks to whoever suggested the gluten-free Pantry mix - it was a winner...
  6. Ditto here for my six year old who is now gluten-free. She got a BAD stomach ache after eating out with her Grandma the other day. (She thought she ordered gluten-free, but I don't even let her brother eat out anymore because of how sick he gets all the time!) We assumed that she had gluten contamination. It was classic gluten symptoms like her brother...
  7. Sounds VERY suspicious to me! I would check into it, do a dietary challenge, or testing, or whatever. It does sound like it could be a gluten problem.
  8. Wonderful!!!!! My son had a big weight gain too!!! I was so excited! We had to take him in for a virus last week with a temp. of over 103*. When we got home I was calling the family to let them know how he was doing. It was sort of funny, because I was like, "He has a virus, he'll be fine soon." (In a rushed and hurried way) and then, "Guess what?...
  9. My six year old had years of UTI's and even surgery with her bladder/kidney problems. I have no idea if it is gluten related or not. She just went gluten free about 8 weeks ago. My 2 yr. old son is celiac and has been gluten-free for a year and a half. We have just started putting together the problems in other family members. My (6 yr. old) daughter...
  10. Laura, your recipe sounds yummy! We will have to try it. Southerners, while you wait for the chicken and dumplings (I am waiting too!), here is our "Southern-style" mac and cheese: (Measurements approx.) Cut up 1/2 stick of margarine or butter in the bottom of a casserole dish. Add 2 eggs Pour in @ 8 oz. of cooked gluten-free macaroni noodles Add...
  11. "Orgran" has a gluten-free gravy mix that we use as gravy and I also sprinkle on things for seasoning sometimes. Newman's Own Tomato & Basil Bombolina pasta sauce is gluten-free - my kids love it on gluten-free pasta. I second the thought of staying away from eating out. It is very hard not to get gluten from restaurant eating. This was very...
  12. Is dream whip topping a Kraft product? That sounds REALLY good!
  13. Seems like there was a thread about this sometime not too long back? You may want to try a search. At any rate, some pack lunches we use: Ham rolled up cheese squares gluten-free crackers (Basically we make our own "Lunchable-type" lunch) Soynut butter and honey on gluten-free bread (peanut allergy) fresh fruit grilled cheese sandwhich...
  14. Seems like the birthday parties have hit us all at once! While preparing gluten-free treats in the kitchen, I wondered if anyone else could use help on this issue. We had ALOT of trial and error before finding the yummiest option that (to date) has never been scorned by non-gluten-free's. Here goes: Never fail gluten-free cupcakes that are good...
  15. Thanks so much. Forget stamp collecting and scrapbooking! My new hobby is ingredient/product lists.
  16. We just started ordering a few weeks ago. We have the soap(bar and liquid) and the lotion. The lotion, in particular, was a godsend. I was desperate for lotion that was safe and didn't have a scent. My husband has terrible allergies and can't take things with scent. I am caring for little ones with celiac and my hands need to be gluten-free, so the lotion...
  17. I had a simular experience when a friend offered to drive my son and I on an outing. We were chatting and laughing as we went to buckle the little guys in, and her carseat was full of cracker crumbs. I mean it was everywhere. I had leaned in to put him in the seat and almost fell over I snatched him back so quickly! "Your seat is full of poison!" I am...
  18. I second the dye free/stain free Motrin. I checked it by phone on 2-20-06.
  19. I posted a thread about this in the dining out forum (sorry, I was new then). This was some of what I said there. You can find it under "Fabulous Walt Disney World Experience". I reviewed a lot of our experience there. It was wonderful. Hope this helps! (It was on pg. 7 of the dining out forum as of last night) In response to the question about...
  20. I am sorry. I don't know anything about the numbers. My son was diagnosed at @ 15 months old. He is still speech delayed, although he is in speech therapy and doing MUCH better. He displays autistic symptoms sometimes when he is accidentally glutened. "Special Diets for Special Kids" is one book that I found helpful. Mostly my heart just aches for...
  21. Erewhon Crispy Brown Rice tastes the same as Rice Krispies and makes wonderful rice cripsy treats (I am munching one happily now and just had to post!).
  22. Welcome Kat and we are glad you are here! My celiac son (age 2) is on my lap while I type this, so it will be short! My son was diagnosed around 15 months of age. My six year old daughter just started getting sick in Nov./Dec. '05. She is gluten free now too. My husband has been ill for several years, and now the verdict seems to be a gluten problem...
  23. Just thought of a few more things to add! I know that most people wouldn't think this necessary, but who would have thought gluten would be in diaper creme either? Just to be safe, I checked on our paper products. For your peace of mind: SOLO cups and plates are confirmed safe Hefty ZooPals (children's paper products) and their other paper...
  24. Thank you so much for mine, Nini!!! I am sorry that I could not remember your name! I am REALLY bad with names!! Awesome list!
  25. French's told me awhile back that their Worchestire sauce was gluten-free. Hmmmm. I wonder now. It does so distilled vinegar (no malt listed) and caramel color.
