  1. I do not think you are going overboard. A child with celiac is different than an adult. Children do put everything in their mouths, touch everything and everybody, etc. I just posted a list of items that helped me (I did not see this post before I posted mine). Someone on this list just sent me a list of gluten-free items for "newbies" that included a...
  2. My son was diagnosed with reflux at one year of age, but the diagnosis was changed to "cyclical vomitting" brought on by celiac disease within three months. I don't know if this has anything to do with your situation, but thought I would tell you. He was on several meds. for reflux, but with the diagnosis change, they took him off.
  3. As of 2-21-06, I have uncovered some info. that may be helpful to you that concerns children. We were doing a massive, full-scale gluten check at our house. My son kept having suspicious symptoms and we are VERY careful about his food. Desitin original diaper ointment (w/ zinc oxide) is safe, however, the Desitin Creamy diaper creme IS NOT gluten...
  4. I was shopping for a children's tylenol today and couldn't find any of the ones listed on my safe list. I called and was told that the new flavors hadn't been tested yet (although they were working on it) and that she couldn't confim that any of those (new) were gluten-free. I had been three places, but couldn't find any of the old flavors. She said that...
  5. I am looking to make a few family recipe casserole dishes, but they all call for cream of chicken soup! Does anyone know if you can make this and how?
  6. We love these and they always turn out wonderful. I am so sorry yours were yuck!
  7. Thanks! I knew you guys would be helpful!
  8. My first reaction was very much what Karen said, I am so afraid that this will cause companies not to provide gluten-free lists, or not to produce gluten-free food. I hope that it doesn't turn out that way! Maybe we should all write our favorite companies with glowing letters of appreciation for their support! Honey vs. vinegar!
  9. I know this is a Kraft food and I think I understand that this should be gluten-free, but I had read somewhere that jello was not safe (now I can't find it). The label reads: sugar, gelatin, adipic acid (for tartness), contains less than 2% artificial flavor, disodium phosphate and sodium citrate (control acidity), fumaric acid (for tartness), red 40 I...
  10. I had never thought of that. It is worth looking into. It is so nice to have someone else to give ideas and opinions. Thank you. We are going to have a major "conference" this weekend over our choices. I hope we can at least make a plan of sorts.
  11. My husband had this done. They said they didn't find anything. He also had exploratory surgery - nothing there either. I wonder if they did the right blood test on him for celiac? They said it was negative. They said that he had reflux, mild colitis, severe IBS or viseral hypersensitivity, and possibly allergies.
  12. Thanks so much for your input. I thought maybe he could be getting sicker from his job. They are closing for a three week re-model of the restaurant. I am hoping that maybe he could try something else, even on trial. It is a good job with an excellent company, but I don't want it to make him sick! I am so tired of worrying over all of this! Will he...
  13. I know that I have probably posted a bit of our situation before, but please give me some opinion on this as we are desperate! My son is confirmed celiac and is severely sensitive. Apparantly has skin problems with it as well. My daughter was having some symptoms that have improved off of gluten - although her blood test was negative. Tonight I am asking...
  14. Why, oh why, won't these people make a cereal gluten-free AND NOT PROCESS IT WITH PEANUTS!!!!???? My poor celiac son is anaphylactic to peanuts and the Envrokidz are all peanut contaminated. Most gluten-free candy is peanut processed too. Sorry, just had to whine a minute. Valentines hit hard over here! And we are all "life-savered" out! It seems...
  15. This is very timely for me. We were in Starbucks today and my little girl wanted to know if she could get the hot chocolate. I wasn't sure, so I said no. I wanted to check it out. Does this mean that it is okay? My husband loves Starbucks and we weren't sure what he could have. The mocha and the caramel are okay? The white choc.? I think it is Godiva...
  16. Dr. Hill in Winston Salem (Brenner Children's Hospital) is our Doc., he is for children, but might have suggestions.
  17. We love the Namaste Choc. cake. YUMMY!
  18. We came down with colds this week. I called a few companies to check meds. I needed gluten-free med. for my dh and my dd. I was a little confused by the response of "gluten free ingredients, but haven't tested the final product". Does anyone have comments on this? Also, I think maybe the safe children's tylenol list has changed. I thought the chewable...
  19. My children love the cookies. Choc. chip, choc. brownie, no-oats oatmeal, gingerbread, and snickerdoodle I think they are pretty good too. We have nut allergies and are not able to eat a lot of other brands of gluten-free cookies. These are a big hit at our house.
  20. Hilarious! I'd love to know what they say to that!
  21. With our initial diagnosis (which completely blindsided us), we were just told to not give him gluten and to read labels. I was confused and in a panic to put it mildly. The hospital dietician gave us the food pyramid?! Long story short, we called some people on a list from the national celiac support groups and begged them to tell us what to do. (Thank...
  22. My toddler son is very sensitive to cc. We do not even take him to church nursery anymore because he kept getting sick from goldfish cracker crumbs in the kitchen set and things like that. I really needed to work and even took a management team position at an "upscale" much-touted day care chain nearby to see if it was possible for us if I was there. It...
  23. "Newman's Own" Bombolina sauce is yummy and gluten-free. We use it for spaghetti and for pizza sauce too.
  24. I was able to find a phone number and called them. Bounty, Charmin, and Puffs are all gluten-free and no gluten in the adhesive used either. She took all of my complaints about the e-mail fiasco. She had an answer rather quickly to the question, so I don't know why they couldn't have simply e-mailed me the response earlier. I complained rather vehemently...
  25. Confirmed by phone that Charmin, Bounty, and Puffs paper products are gluten-free and there is no gluten in the adhesive they use on the rolls. Having said that, I will add that this was after they sent me an absurd e-mail about having to have a Doc. mail them (on letterhead) the request for this info. I called a number I looked up and really gave it to...
