  1. so sorry to hear about your disappointing experiences! I do a lot of cooking/baking, but have never attempted bread. I'm actually 'afraid' of making anything with yeast - yes, a personal paranoia I guess. I do however have great results whenever using gluten-free Pantry all purpose mix for almost everything else. Just yesterday, for the first time I tried...
  2. thanks nini! that's what you told me before the test too - sticking to your guns - LOL. I do agree and staying gluten-free is already a way of life, and is certainly better than feeling yucky all the time! guess you'll be seeing me around here a lot anyway! thanks for your input!
  3. Hi guys! just sharing. quick background for those who haven't read my prior posts. Lifelong symptoms (I'm 41.999!). Nutritionist recommended wheat free 9 years ago. I went gluten free. Felt much better. 2 years ago had colonoscopy (mom had cancer, dr told me to have it done). He saw no reason to be gluten free, so I ate everything for several months, till...
  4. I ALWAYS offer to bring a dish. People don't seem to get offended and I too say I'd love to come for the company. My mom is the only one who I trust to cook for me....my mom-in-law doesn't even make an attempt - LOL! Funny story while on this topic. Invited for dinner at friends home. Brought my own cooked pasta. Another mutual friend shows up with a bag...
  5. thanks Nini, I didn't know about them! may I blame you if the graham crackers and bagels make me put weight on??? LOL!!! I will have to give them a try.
  6. Apparently, celiac disease is very prevalent in Italy and Ireland. I've actually heard that newborns in Italy are automatically tested for celiac disease, so they are very educated and ahead of us! also heard that pharmacy's sell gluten-free food. It may turn out to be the best place to go afterall! Lucky you!
  7. SG, there are lots of things! whole grain brown rice, baking with bean flours, adding some whole ground flax seeds to cooking, finding gluten-free granola bars with high fiber, cereals that we can eat, fruit and veggies provide fiber too. You don't have to cut out pasta, in fact, there are a lot of whole grain rice pastas that are very good! I also take...
  8. quote "Can someone send me some positive / coping ideas to perk me up. I want to be normal!!" positive/coping ideas: as least we have something that is easily cured ~ all it takes is careful eating! there are a lot of people that suffer diseases that require horrible 'treatments' with lots of nasty side affects! there are a lot of people that are in...
  9. hhmm, a lot going on here. you will find most people on this board say if a gluten-free diet makes you feel better, just stay on it. and if it's celiac disease, a low-gluten diet is still harmful. although you may feel you're getting away with eating just a little cuz you don't get symptoms, it is still affecting the villi in your digestive track. it's...
  10. I originally went to a nutritionist for another problem in 1997. She's actually the one who told me (based on my symptoms) to avoid wheat. She was very helpful actually and put me on the right track at least.. I then realized that it was gluten I needed to stay away from, not just wheat. She also wasn't a 'dietician', but rather more of an alternative meds...
  11. congrats to all of the new brides & brides to be! how exciting! I can't help with the wedding planning - I got married in 96, 6 months prior to going gluten-free. In fact, I'm a vegetarian, so for myself I had (of all things!) mushroom ravioli! I'm sure whether you go all gluten-free, or just for yourself, it will be a great day!!!!!!!
  12. hi guys! don't mean to butt in, but I'm also a vegetarian (not vegan and I will eat shellfish occassionally). any way we can get a separate section on this board for veggies?! I was a veg before celiac and I don't get bored and don't feel like I eat the same thing over! I'm even pretty good at making one dinner (with 1 or 2 adjustments) for me & hubby...
  13. I usually use McCormick's, but I just found alcohol free in Trader Joe's for a great price.
  14. another interesting topic! I agree with those who said: no - I wouldn't be making the healthier choices in my diet if it were not for celiac disease no - apparently, for whatever reason (your personal spiritual beliefs), I am meant to have this and my own personal one - I also have psoriasis, since age 8. I swore my entire life that I would do/take/give...
  15. Great topic! Yes, one of my reactions to being glutened is the big 'C'! When I've had something I shouldn't have, it's usually 2 days later that I realize it. Then among some other symptoms, constipation. Then approx 3 to 4 days later, I can't get out of the bathroom. The timing and symptoms are always the same. Prior to becoming gluten-free I was chronically...
  16. I CAN help you! the upc is 4119691157 comments/question 7:30am-5:30pm CT call 1-800-200-9377 I just found out it's gluten-free and bought it in my stop & shop in NJ great substitute for campbell's recipes
  17. Canadian Karen - THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! I was looking for that list! Potato vodka is expensive, and I'm sick of wine! Yippee - anyone for happy hour friday??!! LOL
  18. a great big thank you! I use clinique!!!!! as I said on another post, prior to this board, I never thought about topical gluten! How stupid! Have to check my lipsticks now! Like everyone here, I spend extra money for gluten-free food, in the meantime my lipstick could be glutening me! **ok, I checked, 2 are color surge, but one is long last...anyone know...
  19. I don't if it's 'new' as in updated (changes), but I did just get the info emailed to me today if that helps any. I'm new to the board and may be telling some people what they already know, but as I get info I'll post it for anyone who might find it useful. great pic w/ dog! I'm an animal lover too! btw-how do I get my siggy to not show {color...
  20. thanks for sharing that! I use some of those products, but honestly, I haven't been getting too crazy with checking topical gluten-free stuff. Although I've been eating gluten-free for almost 9 years. I'm a slow learner! LOL Patti
  21. I know I checked on 'hellava' products years ago over the phone, but it was so long ago, updated info would be a good idea. I remember the woman was very nice and knew what I was talking about. Some of their products were indeed gluten-free, but not all of them. Phone number on package? I'd be happy to make the inquiry again for everyone. sorry not more...
  22. oh my goodness! this gluten-free stuff is just all too confusing! I too thought the distilling process removed all gluten. isn't that why triple distilled adult beverages are ok for us (like smirnoff vodka?) Maybe this too is on an individual basis - like some say about oats? another confusing issue! I've been gluten-free for about 9 years, and am still...
  23. Hi everyone! y'all are so helpful to me, so I'm passing on an email response I got. I inquired about their bloody mary mix. (I sound like an ancoholic! I just asked if anyone knew about baily's, now I have info on bloody mary mix!!! LOL) Anyway, thought someone might benefit from this: Thank you for your interest in our TABASCO® and McIlhenny Farms®...
  24. another coffee drinker! I opt to make my own plain at home usually, and love nestle's (by kraft) liquid flavored creamers! they are great and it says right on the label 'gluten free'! (on the back of the bottle in the green box). Another star for kraft foods! I've also seen them in boxes of the mini size (like you get at the diner) in some stores, that...
  25. thank you both so much! you made my day! ~Patti in NJ~
