  1. I have mucus problems, too. I've had it most of my life. I was diagnosed in 06 and still have mucus in my stool at varying times. Definitely when I'm cc'd. If you have a GI doc you could give them a sample or ask about a colonoscopy.  My doctor doesn't seem to think it's anything to worry about.

  2. Hi Meg,

Your symptoms sound like mine before I was diagnosed except for the weight loss. My doctor thought I was bleeding internally I was so anemic.  My advice would be to keep eating gluten, get the full celiac blood panel and go from there. They did a colonoscopy on me in 2006 and it was clean so while I was still out they did an endoscope biopsy and found my villi were flat and I was getting very little nutrients from my food.

I still have a little inflammation and have been diagnosed with other afflictions but knowing I had Celiac was a blessing and a curse. You sound prepared to deal with it if you have it.  Good luck and let us know what happens. ?

  3. I agree. Never buy Great Value anything that you eat. Their diced tomatoes even have wheat in them. Make sure you check every label. I've been reading every label of everything I buy so I don't get contaminated and I never eat anything that was processed someplace that also processes wheat. Don't believe Cheerios either. They make a lot of Celiacs sick. I got really sick when I ate Multi grain cheerios that were supposedly gluten free.

  4. I found out that most of my family is allergic to apples about 5 years ago. I don't think it's the apples. A couple of years ago I started having diarrhea episodes, like yours, every six months. The last one almost killed me. I was in the he ER hooked up to an IV. The doctors had no idea what caused it. Luckily it's been awhile since my last bout. Normally, I'm constipated and have to take Linsess. They don't know why I'm constipated either. I hope you feel better knowing you aren't the only one. Let me know if they figure your problem out. It might help me or my doctors. ?

  5. I've been gluten-free for 11 yrs and I still have poop problems. My GI doc just gave me Linzess for my chronic idiopathic IBS w/constipation. I don't think I've had a normal poop since I was 20 yrs old. I hope you don't go the way my bowels have (I'm 52 and not looking forward to being like this until I die). Good luck.

Thought you'd like some worse case scenario input.  At least I don't have UC or Crohn's

  6. I feel your pain but instead of making the 3 others in the house conform to my standards, I just make my own meals w/or w/out them. I have my own appliances, my own shelf in the fridge and my own cupboard. They use as little flour as possible and use mine when it's in a recipe. Everything is separate. I've been doing this for 11 yrs and it still makes me feel like a freak but I watch everyone like a hawk in the kitchen and at the table. If in doubt, I ask what they used and I read all labels. It reminds me of living w/someone who eats your food so you have to hide it or write your name on it.

The main goal is YOU not getting sick, so stand up to them and get yourself your own gluten-free area to work in. My kids were teenagers and I didn't get sick, so you should be able to teach the 13 yr old. Good luck. Stand up for your gluten-free self. Personal question, does your significant other brush their teeth before kissing you? I don't kiss my fiance unless he's just brushed and not had beer or other poison for me.

  7. I've eaten plenty of deer meat and elk and it's never bothered me. As long as you process it yourself you should have no worries. All of the steak and hamburger that we've had made for us never made me sick. I did not eat the sausage or jerky because it might be cross contaminated. Any meat, vegetable or fruit should be gluten free. There are weeds in your garden and driveway that you can incorporate into salads that are good for you and gluten-free.

  8. I hope you get a definitive answer soon but from what you've said you have celiac. I used to get canker sores all of the time but haven't had one since going gluten-free. I would keep eating gluten until your endoscopy because my reaction is 100 times worse now when I eat gluten. I vomit until it's gone. Then I have the mental problems for a couple of weeks. From your description of your skin, I would say you have DH. But you really need the endoscope to tell you 100%.

Good luck. If you have celiac, know that it is much easier to live with now than 50 yrs ago or even 10 yrs ago.

  9. I was diagnosed in 06 and still have stomach gurgling, constpation, right and left rib pain plus other stuff and I wonder if I'll ever be healthy. I never had a dietician but relied on books to inform me. I was just told to start Vit D supplements and I have to take linsess for my IBS-C.  When I'm glutened I vomit unless it's very minor then I get that angular cheillitis on my mouth. I just had an endoscope and I guess my villi are ok. I think the pill cam would be best to determine damage through entire intestine. I have pain when bowel movement's move through me and I get cramps from just about everything even water. I've had multiple opinions because I move a lot and change doctors frequently.

Your GI doc should give you a handout that lists safe foods. I just found out you shouldn't eat 'bleached' anything and you shouldn't use benzoyl peroxide.  It makes my face swell.  I would follow all the Celiac websites and the NIH. Carol Fenster has a lot of good informational cookbooks you could use for home cooking. My advice, learn what has gluten in it (spices, etc) then read everything you buy. When in doubt call the company and ask. Being sick sucks, so be proactive.

  10. I make sure I don't kiss my S.O. Unless he's brushed his teeth. Food from his glutinous meals could cross contaminate me. I don't share straws or drinks with anyone eating or drinking gluten. I'm extremely paranoid about being glutened and I'm pretty sensitive to it so it's best to be on the safe side.

  11. I have celiac (diagnosed in 2006) and just was told I have idiopathic IBS with constipation. I take the lowest dose of linsess but it still gives me diarrhea. I've been taking it every other day and that works well. If the magnesium citrate doesn't work you could ask your doc for linsess.

I had an allergy test a couple of years ago and wasn't allergic to anything, even wheat.  I can't handle apples but am ok with its family members. Once or twice a year I have uncontrollable diarrhea for a month that just comes out of nowhere. Doesn't matter what I eat or drink. The doctor has no clue what that's about since it doesn't come from gluten exposure or anything. I'm not sure how much help I've been but it's nice to know you aren't alone.

  12. I prefer edible candy. I have glaucoma and celiac so it helps me on a daily basis for all of my medical problems. I wish I could find a strain that has laxative effects so I didn't need linsess. Leafly.com has a lot of strain information and cannabist is a good resource, too. You can use CBD or THC and not get 'stoned'. I function fine on 20 mg of the candy. I refuse to drive if I smoke though. Good luck, hope it helps.

  13. I hope they can find out what it is. Mine crusted over once I started using the cream (mometasone furoate) and eventually flaked away. I get oozing from my small patches, too. Let me know what you find out. Good luck.

  14. I had patches like that on the back of my neck. Doc gave me a steroid cream and told me it was eczema and sent me on my way. The cream worked and now I only get small patches here and there. I've been diagnosed Celiac for 10 yrs and that happened after 2 years gluten free.

  15. I've eaten apples my whole life and about 2 yrs ago (been gluten-free since '06) for some reason apples made me sick. I can have 1/4 of an apple with no problem. My kids would get diarrhea from apple juice as children and now we all are sickened from cider, raw apples, etc. Onions and garlic are in the same family but they don't cause a reaction in any of us. I miss apples but it's not worth the pain. I wonder if I'll be unable to eat other foods I enjoy now in the years to come???

I have never had a problem with the seaweed salad, but I ask everywhere I go, since that is not something that is super specific on exactly how it should be made, everyone does it differently.

Ok, the Teppanyaki rice has chicken broth. That makes sense. The sushi rice is sushi rice with rice vinegar, sounds like, so the sushi rice is most likely fine. Most Japanese food aside from Sushi has a lot of wheat in it. So I would stay away from the TeppanYaki anyway, just cause of all the sauces and stuff. Much less confusing.

Check the vinegar. Some rice wine vinegar has wheat in it or barley????
