ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Here's the latest update on caring bridge: Well, Megan had a big day yesterday. The surgeon said the healing looked great and released her. The GI was very pleased with her weight gain and actually cut her back on her intake of formula, so she can now be disconnected from the tube 8 hrs a day!!! She was at the 50th percentile for weight to hieght and about... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
NoGluGirl, we started probiotics yesterday, so hopefully that will cover that base. She's only eating elemental formula and breastmilk at this point, despite my best efforts, so I don't think the diet is an issue. We're trying to get her to where everything doesn't come back up, so we're still trying foods. I'll mention this test to her GI next week. ... -
ARCHIVED So Ticked Off!
TCA replied to Jenybeen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just wanted to point out that you probably don't have to worry about moving it. My son was ready to take on the world after a couple hours. I would think that overnight he would be fine. Sorry about the lost bloodwork. My daughter is a heart patient and has to get stuck ALL the time and it stinks. She is so hard to get a good stick with. Once... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So far they've done things like teaching me ways to get her to accept food that I can do at home. Hasn't been too successful so far. They stretch her cheeks and massage her gums to help her gag reflex. They also help me come up with what formulas she can handle. Nic - thanks for the encouragement. Meg is part of Early Intervention and they come... -

Feeding therapy is just that - like physical therapy or speech therapy, just trying to get her to eat. She's been getting it once every now and then, but it's getting stepped up to once a week. Hope that's a good explanation! -
ARCHIVED Weaning Onto Rice Milk?
TCA replied to yudsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Both my kids are/were allergic to milk. I nursed my son until 21 mos because of his allergies. I stopped as soon as he outgrew his allergies. My daughter won't nurse, so I'm still pumping for her. She's on a special formula formulated for babies over 1 and I just supplement. You might check into some formulas like this to replace the breastmilk if you... -

ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just posted this to her caring bridge site. I also talked to the ped. today about probiotics and he thought it was a great idea. I'm staring with acidophilus chewable tablets that I think I can melt pretty easily and get through her feeding tube. Any other suggestions on what I should give her? ************************************ Megan went in for... -
I can't remember the site right now, but I read that the use of prednisone can cause leaky gut syndrome.

ARCHIVED New Member Question
TCA replied to rachelwilber's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
reflux was my daughter's primary symptom to begin with. She even had a fundoplication that came undone because of the undiagnosed celiac disease. She's now gluten-free and doing better, but the damage done by the undone fundo is causing more issues than anything. I would strongly urge testing for celiac disease. I'm not sure of her age, but testing is... -

As a parent of a very ill child, my heart goes out to you. You and your daughter will be in my prayers. -
ARCHIVED New To Board- Need Some Support
TCA replied to Amandab29's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is a great list of the celiac panel, but I wanted to add that you might want to get them to do a CBC to check for anemia too because this can be another symptom. Just remember that the tests can often be inconclusive for kids under 5. After 2 years of testing, we just tried the diet with miraculous results. good luck! -
ARCHIVED Candida Overgrowth And Celiac Connection
TCA replied to esthesio-vivi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
just ran across this at Open Original Shared Link and thought it was interesting: Why is Gluten Excluded in Candida Diets? Many of the Candida diets also suggest excluding gluten from the diet. What isn't explained is why this particular protein is excluded and other proteins are not. Usually sugars are the main foodstuffs to exclude. In this article... -
ARCHIVED Candida Overgrowth And Celiac Connection
TCA replied to esthesio-vivi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Not trying to pry here, but I have a lot of issues like this too. After being married for few years I discovered I was allergic to latex, causing yeast infection type symptoms when certain birth control methods were used. Don't know if this could be an issue for you, just thought it was worth mentioning. Also, here's a web site that compares celiac and... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for your input. I think I'm going to keep on just 1-2 times a day. That way it's not so much stress to get all that I need to done, but she's still getting some. I have a stockpile in the freezer now so if they put her back on ebm full time, we'll have enough until I can get my production up again. I'm checking into the candida thing with her... -
Way to go! I'm always cooking for folks and they wouldn't know the difference if we didn't tell them. We eat like everyone else, just better!

ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the advice. I'll pursue this next week. We have a great pediatrician who is open to alternative meds. He has Meg on Flax oil now. I'm going to start with him. I have had candida in the past and went through a regimen of nystatin. I wasn't to the extreme you are, but was so miserable. I didn't realize how badly it could impact digestion.... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's a good point. She's been on LOTS of very strong antibiotics. What type of probiotics are you on? I have some chewable probiotics for my son. I might should start her on some...... thanks! -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks. Meg hasn't nursed in over a year and now she won't even take a bottle. It's strictly through the feeding tube. Her activity level is increasing, which is great, but takes MUCH more time, so the time to pump is not as easy to come by (not that it was ever easy). that's why I'm thinking of quitting. My production had already started dropping off... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks Vincent! I just remembered this morning that I forgot to post here and was getting on to do it. I'm pumping less, therefore less time on the computer. TMI, I know, but just didn't want all of you thinking that I'd abandoned you! Jarod didn't have to have surgery, thank goodness. He did get a job offer out of the blue when he wasn't even looking... -

ARCHIVED So Frustrated...
TCA replied to andersonfam06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've had you and Lanigan on my mind a lot. I do hope you find answers soon. Is this a children's hospital? do you have one near you? I know about the threats and all, but maybe a children's hospital would take you more seriously. Still praying for both of you! -
ARCHIVED Beverages
TCA replied to warrenfamily's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Walmart brand is starting to put gluten free on their products. Check out their juice. We use Apple & Eve, Mott's, and Welch's without any problems and my son is super sensitive. -
ARCHIVED How Important Is Using Gluten Free Soaps/sunscreen/detergents
TCA replied to warrenfamily's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The Bath and Body works stuff usually has gluten in it. I would be most suspicious of that. I don't know about pledge, simple green and Kirland's brands, but the others are all gluten-free. It does make a big difference, though. My daughter was so sick after doing really good for a while. I traced it back to some curel lotion I kept by the kitchen sink... -
