I'm nursing too and I stay hungry all the time. I gave up on trying to lose weight long ago. If I cut back on calories at all, my production goes down fast. I'm dairy free now, but I used to love getting some gluten-free sandwich meat and a slice of mozzarella and melting it in the microwave for a snack. Peanut butter is a big staple for me too. I'm...

ARCHIVED Lanigan's Story... Any Advice
TCA replied to andersonfam06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From what I understand you can relactate using a pump. I got a script for Reglan when my milk supply dropped off. It helped tremendously. If you're able to do this, I would highly recommend it. My daughter just hasn't been able to tolerate much else. My son couldn't do formula either. He nursed until 20 mos. Not what I had planned, but it's the only... -

THANKS VINCENT!!!! I've been meaning to call and check on you all night, but the phone has rang off the hook. I won't be off the phone with one relative before another beeps in to check on Megan. they should start reading this board!! The last one got off the phone after 10 and I was afraid it might be too late to call then. You really are a lifesaver... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From what I understand, when they start the surgery, her heart will be stopped and the heart lung machine will take over pumping her blood. The machine requires more blood because a lot of the blood will be outside her body and in the machine while surgery is happening. Last time her iron plummeted after surgery, so she had to have a LOT of transfusions... -

So glad you got in. Are you gluten-free yet? Just wanted to make sure you knew that if you want a definite test, you need to wait to go gluten-free until after the scope. I wouldn't blame you if you just wanted to go gluten-free immediately, though to get him well. You might even call the dr. office to see if they have any cancellations for tomorrow.... -

Yes, Vincent saved the day!!! Our car broke down, so Jarod didn't want to leave me without a way to go in case something happened with Meg. This was such a blessing to make sure she has an adequate supply for next week. We shouldn't need a ride up, but thanks Vincent. Our parents will be in town then and can help us out if needed. Meg rested better... -
ARCHIVED Tax Deductions And Gluten-free Foods
TCA replied to maggee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
From what I understand it has to be the difference in the cost of regular food and the gluten-free subs. I don't think you can do the whole thing. We're allowed to do this through our pre tax spending account at my husband's work. -
ARCHIVED Health Insurance Denial
TCA replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would encourage you to find some form of health coverage. My father was financially ruined by catastrophic circumstances. He had jus started his own business and his insurance was in a probationary period when he had a massive heart attack. He lost his insurance and his business and had 5 more heart attacks with no insurance. Hopefully not going to... -

ARCHIVED How Exactly...
TCA replied to andersonfam06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son had 3 endoscopies and 1 sigmoidoscopy in a span of 3 years. celiac disease was never found. His blood work was partially positive, so deemed inconclusive. A dietary trial diagnosed him. I couldn't convince the drs. to test my daughter, but a dietary trial told the story on her too. She had a scope a couple weeks ago for other issues and we haven... -

ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
this afternoon Meg seems to feel some better - thankfully. Last night was ROUGH, so no one slept much around here. I'm trying to get us packed and stressing! The gluten-free thing is not going to be easy, especially for our son. I'm praying that we get into Ronald McDonald house. I bought a new toaster and I've been gathering stuff to take for him... -
ARCHIVED Lanigan's Story... Any Advice
TCA replied to andersonfam06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I really do know how you feel. My daughter was doing the same thing and I got no help from drs. I finally went on a gluten-free diet and took her off all formulas and the improvement was amazing. It turned out that Dairy was causing blood in her stools and gluten caused blood from the stomach for her. She had a fundoplication done, and it came undone... -

Suri, I'm sorry your little one is having similar problems. I do hope she does better soon. Megan is scheduled for her next surgery next week. going gluten-free made a world of difference for her. ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the prayers and hugs! I'm feeling better today, just busy trying to get everything in order. I spent most of the day trying to get family lined up to give blood for her. Meg's still fussy with teething today. I think that's it, but it's always hard to tell. She seems to be doing about the same, though. Cheri, I pray the same thing all... -
ARCHIVED Snacks For 1 Year Old Ds
TCA replied to owensmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Gerber has some freeze dried fruit that is ok. Someone told me the Gerber wagon wheels are gluten-free, but I don't know for sure, but it might be worth checking into. My son is a fruitaholic, and that's always a good choice. -
ARCHIVED New Here.......help, 9 Month Old
TCA replied to nursingmommie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I too am a nursing mom. I went gluten-free for my daughter about 10 mos. ago. I started out with just basic foods like fruits, veggies, and meat, then broadened what I could eat. With my daughter I have to be 100% gluten free, or she gets ill. Below is a thread I started on how to get started. Hope that helps! Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Nih Launches Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign
TCA posted a topic in Publications & Publicity
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) today announced the launch of a campaign to heighten awareness of celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that interferes with the absorption of nutrients from food. The campaign stems from consensus recommendations of an independent panel of experts convened by the NIH to assess current diagnosis, treatment... -
