ARCHIVED New To This...several Questions
TCA replied to RakkasanWife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son has celiac disease and my daughter started showing symptoms as an infant. I went gluten-free as a trial and the change was miraculous. She gained nothing the first 4 mos. of life, but gained 17 oz the first 2 weeks gluten-free. She gets very ill if I accidentally ingest gluten, so there's no doubt she has it. My son was also sick as a baby, but... -
ARCHIVED My Son Has Endoscopy On Friday
TCA replied to nikki-uk's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Nikki, I hope things go well for him next friday. When Megan had hers done they got the cardiac anesthesiologist for her, just to be sure everything was covered with her heart. I'll be praying for both of you! Megan came through splendidly and had no problems and that was even before her last surgery to finalize the repair on her heart. Keep us posted... -
ARCHIVED Gi Doctor Anti-enterolab
TCA replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My GI doubts the reliability of Enterolab too. We ended up doing a diet trial after inconclusive blood tests and 2 negative endoscopies. That was all the proof we needed. I too was told that my son just has toddler's diarrhea. I told them that all that means is they have no clue what's causing it. They couldn't argue with that. good luck with everything... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
just posted this to caring bridge. Hope all of you are doing well! ************************************************************* Megan started feeding therapy at Huntsville Hopsital on Monday. I really like the therapist there and her approach to things. She doesn't want us to force things on Megan, but was glad to hear that we include her at mealtime... -

ARCHIVED Have You Seen Dental Enamel Defects From Celiac?
TCA replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son has TERRIBLE teeth. Some of his teeth just had big holes where enamel should me. He finally had dental surgery this summer and got 7 caps and 4 fillings. The dentist said there just wasn't any emamel to protect his teeth and it looked like major malnutrtion. I am diligent about flossing and brushing. He is 3 and had 2 negative endoscopies and... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Tube Feedings
TCA replied to PennyNC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like this patient has a LOT of issues. My daughter does too. It took months to find anything she could tolerate besides breastmilk. I went gluten-free and the resulting milk was something she could tolerate. Sometimes kids with celiac have other food issues, so be careful. Megan is now on Neocate 1+. It mixes to 30 kcal/oz, but we do it at... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks guys! I'm doing really good. I'm a little stressed with Jarod starting the new job, but they seem to be a good company about putting family first. I hope we don't have any issues with them. I just wish Jarod was going to have more time off before he started, but they need him too bad at the old job. I'm sure it will all work out. I know it... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Elimination Diet As A Test?
TCA replied to goldmama22's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son also had inconclusive testing and we did a diet trial. It was about week 3 before we say drastic improvements. I echo what Vincent said. Make sure you're 100% gluten free. It's hard, but you'll get there! I hope she feels better soon! -

ARCHIVED Bayer Childrens Baby Aspirin
TCA replied to dairy queen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Walmart's Equate brand is gluten-free, according to the mfr. I called them. My daughter uses it as a blood thinner. -
Well, I have a long awaited dermatology appt. on 10/3. I have been gluten free for a year now because of nursing my celiac daughter. I just stopped pumping last week and am debating about a gluten challenge. It makes sense to do this before the appt. I can't decide if it's worth pursuing an actual diagnosis since I know gluten makes me break out in blisters...

ARCHIVED Can I Ask For A Prayer Too?
TCA replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You, him, and the rest of your family will be in my prayers. I really do understand. Feel free to PM me if I can help in ANY way. My daughter just had her 2nd open heart surgery, so I'm here if you have any questions or anything. -
ARCHIVED Entrolab Or Prometheus?
TCA replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Prometheus Genetic testing can be done under any diet, but the celiac panel should only be performed while on a gluten diet. Enterolab claims you don't have to be gluten-free at the time. I'm hesitant to try Enterolab because of things I've heard drs. say. Others here swear by them, though. -
ARCHIVED Entrolab Or Prometheus?
TCA replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We used Prometheus. I too asked my dr. about Enterolab and he was not supportive. I know lots of people here swear by them and have considered them myself, but felt that I should go with what is more accepted in the way of testing. The genetics testing was 440.00 with prometheus, but insurace covered all but the deductible. I'd check with your insurance... -
ARCHIVED Emma And How We Are Getting On
TCA replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So glad to hear the little Emma is doing so well. I hope she starts gaining soon. I know how relieved you must be for the gagging to stop!!!!! What I wouldn't give for that to happen with Meg, though I do think it might be a bit better. I think of little Emma often and am so relieved to hear of the progress. Keep us posted! -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for that list. I talked to the GI a lot about continuing pumping yesterday and he made a lot of good points. AT this point she is THRIVING on the formula and he doesn't want to do anything to stop the progress we've seen. He isn't opposed to her getting breast milk, but wants to be very careful for the very reason that you mention, what I eat, she...
